Two great tips I have learned from this video .... 1) Clamp off the flexy hose to see if fluid is bypassing the master cylinder piston. Good one. 2) Get some other sap to do the obstectrics in the driver's footwell and lie underneath while you pump the pedal when bleeding the system.

Coolant loss on our 940 was only ever caused by a leaking water pump rubber seal (you can almost see it, they all go) and... a cracked cylinder head. Hope you're lucky.

Nice one Matt! This video started off like a disaster movie with a hard end of the world type of deadline. Fortunately the part arrived and with the valuable help of Fiesta Van Man Kris all is well once again. It's always a pain when you get a new part and the bits that you expect as being part of the part aren't so it's time to carefully recover the bits from the old item. A great idea for getting those studs out sticking a nut on the end then hammer the nut. No nuts were harmed during the making of this comment.

You've knocked the vids out at pace this BH, been a great watch and the grind very much appriciated. I had a couple of 9's, thirsty bricks they maybe however, there isn't a lot which stops them due to the mechanics used at the time they were produced. Glad you could get the part you needed, not a good time for something to go down, just before a BH. 👍

I'm trying to figure out why your 9s and this 7 are so hard on fuel. Must be that 2 litre engine. I have a 1990 240DL estate with the B23F backed up by the AW-70 automatic with overdrive gear box. On the highway, motorway there, I see a solid 35 miles to the gallon, which is not bad at all. It means I can get a solid 450 miles on a fill. That is the normal for Arthur and always has been. Ma bought him new, and at the moment he is at about 392,000 miles with the original automatic and rear axle. The engine got swapped after the oil pump failed.

When doing clutch bleed with tiny tiny reservoir section as a tank. Use reverse bleeding method. With that you can do the bleeding in a swift and it is thorogly bled in the first time.
Please check the upper (and lower) heater water hose. To my eye upper hose has very nasty bulge in it and that is bad thing when it bursts. Heater hoses are common thing on these to burst due very old age. Replace all of them at the same time.

Great job, Matt. This is what happens when a Volvo sits! It needs to be driven hard. Too bad the 2 litre is so rotten on fuel. The 2.1 with a carburetor uses less, and the fuel injected 2.3 less again! English and European tax laws make no sense, as they are forcing compromises that cause higher fuel consumption, and that means a larger carbon footprint. The lowest fuel consumption of all my cars was a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis with a 5.8 litre V8. A solid 40 miles per gallon on the motorway in bone stock form. I could have coaxed another 5mpg by improving the exhaust and swapping in a different intake with a 4bbl carburetor. I shudder to think what the road tax would be in that, based on engine size.

    • @GoldenCroc
      @GoldenCroc Год назад

On most uk roads, smaller engines are more frugal for sure. Even on the motorway, the smaller (normal size, 2 liter for example) engine wont consume more if everything else is like for like.

    Hi Matt,
Just a question over car storage..
At Present I live in a 3rd floor flat Housing Association within a village in South Wales and as I own 5 vehicles and my cars get damaged by kids around the village I feel with my health and vandalism I feel its time to move..
I love my cars mainly 3 convertibles Mercedes CLK 320 2002 and 52 plate Astra Bertone convertible and my latest purchase Astra twin top convertible 1.9CDTI And my Audi A6 2.7 TDI 2007 and MY 14 plate transit van..
I miss my Jaguar and MGF se one I scrapped and one I lost in a repair bill.. (I never trust garages) one day it be nice to replace with a couple of Jaguars and few MGF'S And a possible Morris Minor Traveller but Recently I see Ford Capri 2.8 injection /and triumph Spitfire 1500cc.
Old man syndrome or mid life crises..
How much do you feel you spend per car on storage...?
I feel that if I want a really cool place the bungalow is only part of the deal I am looking for.
I see property with driveway and some with garages.
One such property was a 7 car garage with driveway amazing place but £400+ a week for rent..
My rent presently is just under £95 a week..
I guess if cars are off the road you don't pay road tax which saves cash and also insurance saves cash and per car that's Weekly £25.
I am not looking at a barn just the property and driveway..
Looking forward to any ideas you can give me Tim

@@LesterLovesWatches I have less knowledge about the Amazon, but they have used different ways to operate the clutches in different models of Volvos, from just mechanical steel levers on the PV544 to cables on the LHD on the 140, 240, 740. And some have had hydraulic actuation, I think it boils down to what is easiest to build into the model sometimes depending on which side the steeringwheel is placed, and maybe Amazon was the first test with hydraulic operated clutch. Odd thing about the PV544 was that the clutch and brake pedal was hinged underneath the car, the strut under the pedal was shaped like an arch and was only closing the larger hole in the floor when not depressed. That meant cold air rushed up your trouser leg in the winter while coasting and braking! 🥶😆

They're very different beasts. The rover is a much more modern vehicle. Safer, better equipped, more refined, faster. The Volvo more simple and more practical. If I wanted a car for taking the dog places in the country or a run to the tip I'd pick that. Lovely break away somewhere with the wife take the 75. Want a bit of fun use the rover 200vi. The Merc is almost encroaching on the Volvo's territory and it's a massive project with all the rust. Maybe that's the one to let go?
