- The 2024 Porsche Cayenne brings some major (and some would say controversial) changes that've never been done with a Porsche SUV before. But is it still worth it?

for me, the base is the sweet spot in the Porsche lineup for most cars; especially the Cayenne. Porsche recognizes that they need a good base to build on for their crazy cars.
Absolutely!
apart from the petrol Macan, I agree
It’s actually the secret strategy with Porsche. Get all the secret sauce for a lot less money.
@@plastiquemaraj8839 I think the Base Macan for $60K is pretty killer too. I reviewed that one last year
@@CarswithMiles i just don’t like the fact that it has a 4 cylinder engine that comes from a golf gti. Def drives good but I think it’s very underpowered.
Another quick comment… My understanding ZF 8HP is more a family of transmissions rather than one specific transmissions. They even make a scaled up version which can be used in class 6-7 medium duty trucks called the ZF Powerline. All this is to say the transmission they use in the BMW X1 which is a ZF 8HP isn’t the same as Ram TRX (which according to Wikipedia is actually the same one used in the Cayenne.)
Yup! They're all not exactly the same. And the Cayenne is definitely using one of their better examples
Well said. Base P cars good. Top trims also good. Both can be true!
great review. I just drove one the other day and I was really impressed with the ride and handling. I still find it hard to believe that people get hung up on HP numbers vs seat of the pants. There is no measurement for HP (most people dont know that), 0-60 in 4.7 seconds is faster than 90% of the cars on the road. I am a true believer that its more fun to drive a slower car fast than a fast car slow. I own a 911s 0-60 in about 3.3 secs (so what) I use that ZERO times on the street. I do track the car occasionally where I get a chance to really open it up. I always tell ppl the best test drive I every had was a Mazda Miata, nothing like running it to the redline in every gear. Try that with 500 HP and you will either kill yourself or end up in jail.....
Well said. I was thinking about people who will spend another $15-20k because the car is 0.5 sec faster in 0-60. Unless you race, you will not notice that difference.
Great review and couldn’t agree more. I have a GT3 and a Base Cayenne. The base SUV makes sense. Why bother getting a high performance suv, take the 80-90k premium and put that towards a performance 911… or a base 911 😊
I think the base model is mainly less desirable on Porsche SUVs. My experience with a base Macan was terrible. The Cayenne base is much better but even a basic spec is priced higher than a V8 GLE or X5, which has more power, most of the driving dynamics, and more features/options
100% agree. I dont understand for how much porsche charges and the worse value per dollar they bring compared to bmw and Merc, that its justified in their higher cost other than the fact it says porsche
All Ima say is my dad recently cross-shopped a base engine Cayenne with a X5 40i M Sport (and is getting the X5) and both were amazing vehicles although the Cayenne isn't worth $30k extra to us, if you're gonna get a Cayenne IMO I'd say get the S or GTS as those are the ultimate driver's SUVs and they're all very expensive now, I remember a few years ago my dad's friend got a nicely speced Cayenne for $89k (base engine) but unfortunately they are $115k-$120k today which is super hard to justify for me especially considering how much the X5 has improved over the years, ofc everyone will feel differently, Porsche is def the gold standard although BMW will remain a better value for most especially considering how much Porsche has been inflating their prices recently
I owned the base Macan and it was fabulous … never wanted/needed more power or acceleration… but it’s a much smaller & lighter & more nimble vehicle than the huge Cayenne
@@panameradan6860 I’m glad you liked it but if I was to ever get a Porsche Mecan I’d want the S or GTS
To help distinguish between the old vs new Cayenne, just look at the rear license plate. The newer one has a much lower placement.
That too!
Strong review. Well spoken and easy to understand without obsessive hype.
I like the cayenne but the new interior is just going to a too generic direction…😢
Getting rid of the center tachometer and the ignition switch is like getting rid of some little details that made Porsche a Porsche, different to other brands design direction
For the exterior, I think it was always good looking so not changing it too much was the right thing to do
Hi Miles, this is an excellent video and I totally agree with your points! However, the colors kind of feel off and a little washed out in this video. Could just be me though.
If you just start using the paddles while driving it will automatically switch to manual, you don’t need to hold it down. I agree doesn’t look super intuitive
Well said Miles, a Porsche is a Porsche. Great video as always, keep it up!
I’m sorry, but I can’t give Porsche a pass on the exterior design. If it was any other brand we would call the Designers lazy.
Don't fix what isn't broken
Design will always be subjective to be fair, we can like/hate any design we want but we can't insult the designers that work at a car company, I like the way the Cayenne looks personally but if someone didn't like the way it looked I would 100% respect their opinion
@@CarGeek360 I totally get it, but if Porsche gets a pass for lazy designs, other Manufacturers should get a pass for at least trying something different. For an example, BMW. Currently they have revamped their entire lineup to make every Series look unique and not alike. However they’ve received a lot of criticism for actually redesigning their cars. I personally like that a 7 Series no longer looks like a 5 Series, etc.
@@jr1885 idk about that, Porsche clients/fans want modern cars to share design cues/heritage from older cars, I get it may not be your preference but you can’t criticize the company for it especially considering when that’s exactly what their entire fanbase wants
@@CarGeek360 this isn’t a 911, it’s a Cayenne. A great example of Porsche taking a risk on design is the Taycan, it’s beautiful.
Considering a new Cayenne. Well done evaluation.
It would be dope if you could share the MSRP of this and the as tested price so we can know exactly what how much we are looking at. Per usual tho great review
I was thinking the same thing. Porsche is so good at monetizing a buyer's dreams! The price delta between a base Cayenne and Turbo could never be justified on a bid sheet...Genius marketing!
Love your reviews. Always trustworthy. Can’t wait for my 2025 Cayenne to arrive in November.
5:23 hope for MY25 the back up camera is upgraded
I LOVE THIS CAR!! Even though i'm a porsche fanboy, i totally understand why they made this.
It truly is a fun SUV to drive. Now I'll be waiting to review the V8 Cayenne S/Turbo GT....
@@CarswithMiles hahaha that would be so funny!
Actually, base model X5 has 375 HP, so not quite. But yeah that shifter is pretty dreadful, a switch on the dash?? And they put so much more plastic it seems.
I love Porsche, I really do. However, I can't see how the driving dynamics are worth a whole $30k over something like an X5 or a Mercedes GLE or something. Especially considering that they removed a lot of the little features that make Porsche significantly different from the competition.
It’s driving dynamics plus the cockpit … Porsche designs way better cockpits than any competition does - for the serious driver
Its not worth 30k more and its dashboard is not superior to the X5 or gle
Nice review, informative and relatable.
Attractive 40ish upper middle class women love these
That's hyper specific
Excellent, succinct video.
hey man when are you going to review an alfa romeo, like a giulia qv? I'd love to see that. Keep up the good content man!
Those have been hard to come by in my neck of the woods. But I absolutely will the second I can get my hands on one.
@@CarswithMiles Alright, that's very understandable. I live about 20 km from where Alfa Romeo was founded, so i come across them once in a while.
And btw thank you for the content you've put out, you absolutely killed it with the gt4 rs review imo.
Excellent review. Good reviewer.
would you choose the cayenne over the panamera?
I don't have kids, so I'd probably choose Panamera
@@CarswithMiles thanks for your reply, cheers from seychelles :)
Nothing beats my 2011 Lexus RX350. It is so classic styling and firm ride and so dependable. Almost no problems all these years and still drives so smooth and quiet. I get it serviced at a local shop and much cheaper to maintain. 130,000 and counting. Love lexus/Toyota.
Imagine having to extend your hand to the dashboard all the time just to reach the gear lever.
Solid review.
first mile is it possible you could compare this with a g-wagon and range rover autobiography
Not sure when I'll have a G-Wagon again but I should have a new RR Review in the next couple months! A comparison could be fun :)
@@CarswithMiles thanks anyway though
the base one is seriously underpowered as compared to x5 base
Now they have a fully digital dash for the 911😭😭
it’s a shame
That color. Swoon❤❤❤❤
Nice content. Subscribed.
Hey boss , the base bmw x5 has 398 pound feet of torque and 375 horsepower , much more than this !
“Semi-normal person can afford one” 😂
Great Content!
Great video!
Porsche always beyond Ahead.
No way, for the price and how expensive options are, these new porsches arent worth it.The bmw x5 starting at 66,000 is way more worth it especially in luxury for value. And has similar base options. In fact a bmw x5 50e with almost 500 combined horspower is around 74,000. This porsche with 348 horspower starts at 84,000😂 nah
A BMW X5 is absolutely better value. But the Cayenne drives the best from my experiences with them. That's what you're paying the extra cash for in my opinion.
@@CarswithMilesmy question is, is the performance worth that price discrepancy between a bmw and porsche given that from a luxury and options standpoint they are similar.
My dad cross-shopped both and choose the X5 but no SUV is going to handle like a Cayenne for sure, if you want the ultimate driving SUV, the Cayenne S and the Cayenne GTS are the ones to buy, but for most people something like a BMW X5 40i M Sport is perfect especially for the price (what we're getting), I like the Cayenne a lot but we simply can not justify an extra $30k for it on top of the X5 especially considering we'd be just as happy with either or, the Cayenne is worth every penny over the X5 for some but for us we don't feel that way, both are incredible vehicles for sure and some of the best SUVs on the market
W video
I think the macan was the cheapest
this is the most cayenne thing ever, having a check engine light lol
It didn't have one, the dash lights were on because the electronics were initiated but the engine wasn't
damn I can't even get first 2 minutes in
Okay what's with the elevator music?
Got any music suggestions for the next one?
@@CarswithMiles depends on the video yk it better man
Is not a 911 or turbo S or GT? Who are the people who say that?
Do you know that over 90 percent of the people who comment on Porsche related videos either on RUclips or other platforms don’t even own a Porsche. Basically just there to admire.
It’s just a Toyota or a Golf…blah blah.. “what the f do you drive” should be your response.
What he was saying is people who look at 911’s don’t think much of Base 911’s and prefer the S or turbo S versions While for the Cayenne the base model isn’t as frowned upon
I drive an X6M and also M5 competition. Porsche Cayenne base is absolute garbage. I drove my friends for a bit. The minimum spec for that car should be Cayenne S with a V8. V6 for that heavy vehicle is a stupid, ridiculous decision. If you cannot afford the V8 version, than do not buy it at all.
@@CarGeek360 did you feel that the base version just too slow and sluggish. I mean 300+ horsepower for a heavy car is crazy underpower and it’s not cheap
@@nikita11111111 nah it was great power although given that the Cayenne is so expensive these days I wouldn't buy one without the V8, if you're gonna get a 6 cylinder the BMW X5 40i M Sport is a far better value, given that you have a X6M and a M5 Comp tho the V6 Cayenne probs feels slow to you
Sorry, I am going for the dodge this time.
😂
👌🏾❤️👌🏾
what an ugly car
