“In high school” already started up my ptsd. My entire grade school existence was cringe. I almost forgot it happened because I block those memories out.
AB’s story was the funniest by FAR. imagining young AB doing a disastrous purple nurple to his friend almost like he’s turning some car keys has left me with actual tears
There is a big relief off my chest and mind knowing I wasn't the only one who didn't do homework period like that because of "reasons we won't go into" or just not enjoy, or not being able to focus on school. I now know I'm not alone and the way he said everything I just related so much. School isn't for everyone.
I never did homework and never cared about it. Barely passed high school with a D-, failed 80% of classes my first two years of community college, then I found a subject I actually liked and aced every class plus loved doing the work.
Same, but turns out it was not laziness so much as getting overwhelmed and that made me tired and depressed so I pretended not to care, I have ADHD (and pretty bad it turns out) and didn't really figure out how to "do school" until I was almost out. Managed to get my 1.0ish GPA up to a 2.2 GPA after taking a 5th year of high school. I went to college and did way better there. High school was hard for me, but college (community college and then transferring to university after getting a 3.4 in community college) was a lot easier. Now I'm learning to adult and it's going about as well as early high school lol.
AB is literally the friend who has the most craziest stories where at first you don't even believe him, only for it to be corroborated and proven to be true.
I related to Dan's story a lot. The parts where he just didnt care about school. For me.. I wasn't trying to be rebellious, just something didn't click with me. I wanted my free time when I got home and knew I would do poorly with the homework anyways. I would ask people if I could copy their homework. After graduating.. I learned SO much more about life and the important things from different jobs and relationships. I don't regret it.
yeah I dont know, I really cant relate. I hate school, thinks its really useless for the most part but like the bare minimum effort gets me so far and it hardly derails my life outside of school so I can never understand literally not doing anything other than showing up. just do the bare minimum. easy high grades. idk why most people wont
@@orkiso1 I can understand where you are coming from. I guess I did the bare minimum more so than nothing. I went to a private school so I had a lot of poor grades. I did so incredibly poorly in middle school and high school solely due to the fact that I hated school and would skip class and not do my homework but I am very smart and love learning so I would no joke get A's on every exam and I loved reading and writing so I always did essays I just hated worksheets and bs assignments like it seemed so pointless to me... Anyways I finessed deals with my teachers every quarter and would do all the homework I missed during the week before grades were due and that's how I passed. Senior year they tried to say I couldn't graduate bc technically I had too many absences but I was able to get doctor's notes and stuff to cover that bc I had an eating disorder in high school so my mom got my therapist to write a letter to my school. 6 years later and I am currently in my last year of law school. The moral of the story, high school should not define you. I think we put way too much pressure on teenagers to make "life-changing" decisions. I barely knew who I was at 15, 16, 17, etc. And I really didn't discover myself or even get comfortable with my own body and existence until my 20s. And yes I was lucky enough to be born with privilege and opportunity which is the only reason no one gave up on me and I was given 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances. I understand not everyone has that and that's why I think the changes in schools with not flunking people is so important. Some people are dealing with their own demons and some people are just late bloomers. So many people told me I was going to be a failure but really I just need the right environment to thrive in and to give me purpose. Law school is that for me and I feel a deep sense of passion and commitment to the legal career I am building. And it seems like production/H3 is that for Dan. We need to allow kids the opportunity to find what gives them purpose and then we will see them thriving and becoming great contributors to society.
I did basically the same as what Dan did. My freshmen and sophomore year I skipped, I flunked my classes, and I’d hide my report card or always have an excuse why a grade was incorrect. My junior and senior year it all clicked and I had to step on the gas with a full schedule as a senior to graduate. I’m glad I did to this day.
Resonated so hard with Dan's story! I think we're about the same age, too, which makes it hit harder somehow. My anxiety issues and being bullied.. all of that just totally eclipsed my love for learning and I just retreated into myself. I never did homework, I'd walk home all the time. I did the bare minimum to graduate because I felt that pressure of not wanting to be the person that had to repeat a year or something. I was really lucky in that my school was really small/shitty and I'm naturally pretty smart so I could skate by quite well. The homework was what nearly did me in, though. Honestly, shout out to the whole crew! I parasocially adore you all, and I love these candid clips.

I have a similar story to Love’s. In middle school me and a partner were in front of the whole class giving a speech that we wrote about the Holocaust. Idk what happened but I got really nervous and just started laughing and I could NOT stop. I even turned around and faced the board to try to calm down and I just couldn’t, I had to go sit down. I got a 9% on my GYM report card ... gym class torched my GPA. I had a gym teacher that had a weird issue with me and kicked me out for doing anything that no one else even got a warning for. We had a ta that would be called to get me m w f... every gym class. Our teacher drank in his car and my class came to a conclusion I looked like someone who hurt him. It's funny and not funny because a 9 percent in gym class is extremely embarrassing. They switched our teacher specifically because of his weird vendetta with me and one or two other students. He would kick 1 to 10 people out a class. The only time I did something suspendable which was smashing my friend in the face multiple times with a text book mid class. He kicked him out not me. Wish we had a non flunkable rule then.
When i first saw this clip on the show i almost threw up laughing when Ethan said "what is wrong with this kid? he left goo behind. he must have thought you were the most vile kid he's ever met."
@Dan I had a similar experience in high school getting caught months after photoshopping (in MS PAINT) my weekly attendance card for my mom to sign. Then when it came time to meet for end of term parent teacher conference… my mom looks at me and says “Weird…. These aren’t the attendance reports I’ve been signing” and glances at me with a “you’re so busted” look on her face as I’m sinking into my chair. I was grounded for a looong time after that one. However, still pretty impressed that I pulled that off in MICROSOFT paint. So much effort just to not go to class 😂

When i first saw this clip on the show i almost threw up laughing when Ethan said "what is wrong with this kid? he left goo behind. he must have thought you were the most vile kid he's ever met."
I come back so regularly to listen to Zach's story again, gets me every time
I'll also never get over "like Ian's story it was hot" 😂
Hang ON Dan is just going to gloss over that he was a drum major? He just got major respect from the band kids and he’s so blasé lol
re-watching this after january 30, 2023 is kinda funny lol history always repeats itself
Please please please continue this I love these so much
