From Squarp:
"Squarp instruments today launched Hermod+. Everything has been redesigned and rethought in this new version of Squarpʼs first modular sequencer Hermod.
Redesigned and rethought from the ground up, Hermod+ is more than just an upgrade to the original Hermod - it is a new and improved creation in its own right. Drawing inspiration from the flagship sequencer Hapax, the device features a wide screen and a grid-based, step-by-step sequencer, as well as dedicated tracks buttons, which allow for a more streamlined and intuitive workflow. After talking to someone on the Squarp forums, the effects weren’t working because I did not have the note length long enough, so that was def user error. The Module does seem very stand alone, no controller needed.
I just got mine Hermod + in. Now installing 😁😁
@@AndreaCichecki cool channel just subbed! Enjoy the new module!
@@NoiseToMost You too have much fun with it :)
Good stuff, Squarp modules go deep have fun exploring!
Thank you so much, I def will! 🙏
Great! Mine got here fast as lightning as well, very impressive. I just need a bit of time to dive in. First impression is incredible, seems like a wonderful evolution of the hermod.
The shipping was honestly insane, Perfect Circuit gets held in Ohio for 7 days, mean while Squarp direct gets thru customs no sweat…mine was 3 days earlier than DHL first estimated. Nuts!
@@NoiseToMost Incredible. Mine was shipped from Paris to Denmark in less than 24 hours. Faster than our domestic postal service can deliver anything domestically.
@@waveshapes251how do you like it?! Used to have the OG Hermod, but the workflow was so slow, and the screen tiny. Track buttons seem like a game changer along with the bigger screen and updated UI stuff. Hope the buttons are better than the OG which I never jelled with (too tall and stiff foe my liking)
Great video amigo. Well done!
Thank you!
Nice module !
Indeed it is! Thanks for stopping by!
Hey man could you do any more tutorials on the hermod+ now that you have had it awhile? Would love to see if you were able to learn more about it to go more into depth. Its a feature packed sequencer i just got and definitely a lot to learn lol.
Hey thanks for the comment, I actually sold this module about a week after making this video. I thought the grid was going to allow for note entry, some of Squarps IG posts suggested that it could. After several messages with Squarp they confirmed that their social media person misspoke. This module is best for people that have an external midi controller like a keystep, hermod+ is basically a brain link between controller and your modular. The problem is I don’t have a midi controller and don’t really want one (at least not for this purpose) I like my modular to be self-contained mostly. I sold Hermod+ and replaced it with Endorphines Ground Control, and I have been loving it ever since!
Can you tell me if there is an any pins on the back that may lead into a possibility of squarp selling additional CV / trigger module being released for linking? 😅 just a theory I had.
Oh yeah, there is a full size keyed ribbon receptacle for an expander. Which I got excited about too!
Wonder how do you make longer patterns and if it's any good for developing a very precise intricate long theme. It seems that any sequencer can do tiny patterns just fine.
I would say yes, and that’s one of the big reasons I got it, I have metropolix and varigate, looking to do more with Hermod
Does step+Y and step+X still work for quickly create random sequence and clear sequence?
Creating random sequences in it was very easy and one of its strongest features imo, but ultimately I ended up selling it about a week after I made this video, and I don’t recall the exact way you would make and clear sequences.
What are the pads used for?
It is steps in a step sequencer, and also an indicator for effects, and mutes for the other modes. Def still learning, first day! Thanks for commenting!
@@NoiseToMost very cool, I'm definitely considering it. Can you launch different scenes with the pads as well (collections of tracks)?
@@vertigev in the sequence mode each pad represents a pattern for the project, and you can switch between the patterns manually, I believe there is pattern chaining as well, but don’t hold me to that.
I’m not sure about automations just yet, so I’m not sure how to program intro parts and fills, fades etc, I’m not sure if it can even do that haha, but if I learn any tips or trick I think might be useful I may make another video on this.
@@NoiseToMost I think that's exactly but just to make sure, when you change a pattern in sequence mode, does it change all tracks or just the selected track? Thanks again!
@@vertigev yes it changes all the tracks
Can you create melodies by the pads? I mean the pitch, not just the steps. In hermod 1 the pitch is set by the knob, it'd be nice if you could do it with pads like that with a regular keyboard.
I am also curious about this, so far I’m not seeing it, what you describe is how the Analog Rytm mk2 works, but you have to live record it in and The AR has a chromatic mode that I’m not seeing on Hermod, so if it’s there it’s not obvious. If I figure it out I’ll post here, thanks for stopping by!
So many new possibilities with the 16 pads, it only takes Squaro to actually utilize them. They seem extremely underutilized at the moment.
Had hoped they could be used as direct shortcuts - like copy/paste/delete/rename/double and so on lots of possibilities. Maschine mk3 utilize the pads like this.
@@Jonassonk all good points, I would agree that they are under utilized as well, hoping firmware will add these features.
