Working on an Oil Rig | My Trip to Oil Platform | Day Routine of a Petroleum Engineer Offshore

  • Have you ever wondered what life is like on an oil rig in the North Sea? Well, in this immersive video, I will take you to the platform. You can experience life aboard an oil rig. Tune into this video to discover what happens every day on an offshore oil platform, what kind of oil rig jobs exist, and more.
    My name is Furqan and this vlog is about a 4 days trip to offshore Petroleum installation called Veslefrik which is located in Northsea just half an hour by helicopter from Norway`s second largest city Bergen.
    what I usually take with me offshore is:
    #1 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    #2 Toiletries
    #3 Clothes
    4 Electronic Gadgets
    Laptop/charger
    Certificates
    Passengers are required as a minimum to have the following certificates:
    A valid health certificate in accordance with local government requirements.
    Basic offshore safety course And the most important is ID card or passport
    The usual working shift is 12 hours ‘on’ and 12 hours ‘off’, and many shift patterns are a mixture of both day and night because operations run around the clock with no rig ‘downtime’. Offshore jobs have often shift patterns of 2 or 3 weeks on the rig / 2-3 weeks onshore.
    Offshore jobs salary depends on your experience and role, however rig engineers can expect to be paid well due to a combination of the specialised skills required, the risks associated with working on a rig, and the personal sacrifices made in terms of working hours and not seeing family.

      It’s not all fun and money. Aug 5 we was on our way to the rig when the helicopter had a tail rotor malfunction while landing the pilot lost control and we spun into the water with over a 90 mph impact that broke my back and crushed 80 Percent spinal cord impingement at 28 I had to retire from the job I loved and now live in pain everyday. It’s a great job pays well but is very dangerous.

    You are working for 2 weeks and getting a OFF period for 4 weeks. It is really a cool job
    Is only European countries(particular Norway) following these work shifts {means providing double OFF period for an ON period}?, because many company provide equal number of ON & OFF days.
    & Also , how many leaves/vacation days you will get per year apart from OFF period?.

    Hello, Furqan! Great vid, thank you! I see you're working for Equinor? Do you speak Norwegian or they hire people with English too? And how is the schedule, I've heard in Norway all offshore workers work 14 on 28 off, that sounds too good to be true IMO. Could you clarify pls? Or is it just Equinor's policy?

    • @DesiLifestyle
      @DesiLifestyle  3 года назад +3

      Thanks, yes I do speak fluently Norwegian. And in Equinor they prefer Norwegian speaking, but they do hire English speaking as well, that depands on the position and also if they cannot get any good Norwegian speaking candidates. In whole Norwegian Continental Shelf the main routine is 14 on and 28 off. Which means that you work for 14 days 12 hours a day and have a month holiday. You have the base salary + offshore extra salary package when on rig and you get the base salary for the free period. It is really great deal and a dream job for many.

    Hi sir. I have a question about salary expactation. Cause i didn't understand how much money does make an experienced petroleum engineer. You said your salary is about 150-250k per year but in another video's description
    you said " A mid-career Petroleum Engineer with 5-9 years of experience earns an average total compensation of Rs 4,523,402 based on 5 salaries." Rs 4,523,402 is equal to 60k dollars and 720k per year. Why they don't match? 150-250k and the other hand 720k? Thank your for your reply.

      Hello, the first part is correct about my salary, I have 14 years of experience and I work in Norway as consultant taking multiple projects both offshore and onshore. The second part is partly correct, if you work in India with 5-9 years experience the average salary is around 60K per year and not per month:).

    Sir is there are any difference between petro chemical and petroleum engineering

    • @DesiLifestyle
      @DesiLifestyle  6 месяцев назад

      Petrochemical engineering and petroleum engineering are two related but distinct fields of engineering. They both deal with oil and gas, but in different ways.
      Petrochemical engineering is a branch of chemical engineering that focuses on the production of petrochemicals, which are chemical substances derived from oil and gas. Petrochemicals are used as raw materials for various industries, such as plastics, rubber, synthetic fibers, pharmaceuticals, and food. Petrochemical engineers design and develop processes and equipment to convert oil and gas into useful products. They also work to improve the efficiency, safety, and environmental impact of these processes.
      Petroleum engineering is a branch of engineering that focuses on the exploration, extraction, and production of oil and gas. Petroleum engineers locate and evaluate oil and gas reservoirs, design and implement drilling and production plans, and optimize the recovery of oil and gas. They also work to solve technical challenges, such as enhancing the flow of oil and gas, reducing the cost of production, and minimizing the environmental impact of extraction.
      The main difference between petrochemical engineering and petroleum engineering is that petrochemical engineering deals with the refining and processing of oil and gas, while petroleum engineering deals with the extraction and production of oil and gas. Both fields require a strong background in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, as well as knowledge of the oil and gas industry. However, petrochemical engineers also need to understand the principles of chemical engineering, such as thermodynamics, kinetics, and reaction engineering, while petroleum engineers also need to understand the principles of geology, geophysics, and reservoir engineering.
      I hope this helps you understand the difference between petrochemical engineering and petroleum engineering.

    As'salaamualaikum bhai. Hope you are good In'sha'Allah. I was working as a document controller, but recently got terminated due to manpower reduction in Saudi Arabia. In my quest of searching jobs, today I have got a call from my brother's friend who asked if I can work as a Rig Operator for a subcontracting company to Aramco for Oil and Gas.. I have no clue what is Rig Operator to be true but they said they will train me in it. After the call I have been watching your videos past 2 hours LOL. What do you suggest or advice me for this job opportunity?
    JazakAllahu Khairan

    • @DesiLifestyle

      Waleikum asalam, as a rig operator you would be responsible for a area on rig. You will help with maintenance of equipment, operate manual valves when needed, and be involved in problem solving. It is a fun job, alot to learn so you will be a skilled person, but it can be hard and noisy and be prepared for all kind of weather and sea sickness. You would also be away from family for some days per month which mean you would miss many birthdays and happy occasions with family. On the other hand you will have many free days and higher salary. I would have taken that opportunity, just to get some experience.. 😊

      @@DesiLifestyle JazakAllahu Khairan for your kind response. You just said "I would have taken that responsibility just to get some experience" ..so what can I do after getting this experience? Can I move to some other position or field that is better than this?

    • @DesiLifestyle
      @DesiLifestyle  2 года назад +1

      @@mysteriousdrifter9222 After gaining experience you can work in onshore plant as operator, where you don`t need to be away from family for several days. You can work in companies that provide equipment offshore in a service team, where you mainly work in the office onshore but go occasionally offshore. You could work as a specialist (for example PSV valve specialist). You will have a lot of options after that which will lead to higher salary and flexible job...
