Im not good at swimming like everyone else. So i do my own little thing when im swimming. Cant find that style anywere. It reminds me of a rowing machine. I sit straight up in the water, move my arms like im rowing and push my legs like on a rowing machine. Swimming backwards like that. It is dam good for my arms, shoulders, back, belly and my behind. If you guys know what im talking about, let me know.
Dennis Rogers Don't let your eyes deceive you. That's a survival stroke. It's efficient when done right. Maybe not as efficient as the combat swimmer stroke but you can free breathe on this one.
Ever try over arm side stroke? Similar, but the top side hand comes out of the water over the top, like the crawl. Far more efficient in terms of energy spent and distance covered per stroke. Long axis stroke, and a power stroke. Also with the scissor kick, but more similar to what they do with the combat swim, one bigger scissor kick and a couple of flutter kicks. Also, the scissor kick you show creates a lot of drag by extending your legs so far outside of your body line. I modified it to be more like the modern whip kick now used in breast stroke. Breast stroke is far slower than over arm, and back and the fly may be able to keep up, but not as fast as freestyle. Oh, far faster then combat swim.
I have been swimming the over arm or long arm side stroke for 4 or 5 years now. This side stroke is okay, but not efficient. The combat swim is a step up. The over arm is a couple of steps up. The top side arm comes out of the water and over the top like freestyle. You do plane out and your head goes under water on each stroke. It is the way they used to swim side stroke when it was a competition stroke. Only record for it was set in 1895, 125 years ago. Jack Tyre swam 100 yards in 1:02.5..... Oh yea, flip turns too...
This video was a great help with my water safety assignment
thanks
I remember using sidestroke while scout swimming

Yes. One of my friends used the CSS and did exceptionally well.

It would be very cool and instructive to see a video of this variation! I like the sound of it.
I have arthritis in the knees and cannot do the breaststroke kick. Doe the side stroke kick put less strain on the knees
I am the 1000👍.
