For those who are confused, the original purpose of this was to see if we could replicate the Note7 explosion caused by the potentially defective batteries in a live stream setting. After we were unable to do so under normal circumstances, we decided to see how far we would have to go to make the phone explode. In short, it took a LOT. Many other phones would probably explode under these cirumcstances too, but that was not the point of this experiment.
Mashable Thanks, 😊 I was one of the people watching the livestream but I missed out on the end.... but now I know what happens Yayyyy! Does Feirce Trees have any thing to do with this video? 🤔
1.your giant lamp is not hot enough 2.You did paste your phone infront of the lamp 3.You never charge your phone and run intesive games infront of the lamp.
Faulty phones. Happens with all products really. Obviously you test every product but theres bound to be a few that have problems. Peopel just make it a big deal like every single phone exploded.
Because Samsung was too eager to release the Note 7 immediately, hoping that the device would make a huge impact on people. They released it too early that they didn't have enough time to test the phone during the long run. Only if Samsung took enough patience and be fully sure that their product will not have any issues, then the Note 7 might've been selling like hotcakes already today. Good thing that they took care of the issue and damages done by their product and decided to take them away from the society to avoid any further damage to properties.
More specifically, the problem is coming from the internal design of the hardware of the phone. Samsung tried two different batteries; one from SDI and one from ATL, both still causes fire on the phone. Apple seemed to have the same battery supplier as Samsung, yet they don't have as much battery issues as Samsung had on the Note 7, so basically, the problem is definitely the hardware of the Note 7 and not the battery used. It could be the fast charging or any sort of circuit faults in the motherboard that occurs whenever the battery temperature is too high or the phone is receiving too much charge or too high amperage charge from the charger
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Yeah probably. But they didn't specify, so it can be interpreted both ways. Even the description doesn't make that clear. Personally I think this whole Note 7 blowing up is enourmously overrated, but it is important to maintain top safety like Jon Rettinger explained in his recent video.
Maybe still dont sleep with it charging under your pillow, but yeah... live your life and know that your phone is most likely... going to be ok.. until its not.
I think the full recall was overkill. The note 7 is probably safer than most cheap smart phones, but it was produced on such a large level that something happened to one and once it started it became a hot news story so everyone was giving it attention.
so even though it needs a torture to explode samsung still made sure the safety of their consumer is their utmost priority. that is what this test tells us.
so I have an old galaxy s3 right now. if I do exactly what you did (like exposing it to 67 degrees celsius with the lamp), is it guaranteed that my phone will not explode because it's not a galaxy note 7?
Since you went out of the way and were intent on torturing the devices from 2nd day onwards, you should have kept the note 7s alongside other devices to see how those would fare in similar conditions. We all know note 7 explodes (be it under a lot of stress) but what about the others?
It did for just a second...before it caught on fire. All of the warnings that came up, did not cause the phone to shut off ever... good question... i wonder why it didn't power down ever?...I was running a few apps..called Stayalive and Keepscreen... this could be why...
Thank you so much sir You've done a test that i wanted to do myself and you did a good job at it i'm pretty sure alot of people are going to be mad that they were lied to and had to recall lol.
Well. Now we are getting into Human Combustion. I really don't want to know the steps its going to take you to do that... but.. then again.. maybe it would help prevent me from combusting.
Shame to see my idea with the Bluetooth didn't work but, Oh well! Great steam! And to anyone who saw me at the stream. . . HAVE A TOPHAT! (insert hat emoji here) PS. . . Hat
people don't get the point of the video if the phones dont blow up at 58C what did the Samsung engineers do wrong to make a phone reach above 60C when normally charging (which leads to explosions)
+sophrapsune Very true. That's why we did these tests at the Morris County Fire Academy. And as a reminder, we do NOT recommend trying these tests at home.
Guys all you have to do is not turn your flash light on while playing a game with max brightness while charging on the stove to make sure your phone does not explode it may seem like extreme measures to avoid this but it is important
I think everyone is not getting the idea here. The defect is not inherent in all note 7s. To increase the sample size to a million phones to get 20 phones that might explode during a regular charging is not a practical thing to do when creating this video. I doubt the creator wanted you to take this seriously. They admitted as much in the video they couldn't get these 3 note 7s to ignite after rapidly discharging and charging cycles.
the real question is why are the journalist not researching what charges did the victims used before the accident have happened i have the feeling all used to use all cheap chargers and not the one with the box.
hi I conducted the same test on a small Asian child and he exploded. should there be a recall on Asian children or did it happen only because I did exaggerated tests. - note 7 user
Obviously here you are "providing "the actual cause , heat, to create the result , combustion. At the phones that have exploded, is not very clear that this happened because they have been overheated. In some spontaneous combustions , as reported, the phones were not even plugged into the socket. Like the guy how tried to power down his phone before entering the plane. Maybe it is a combination of things like a chemical reaction from a faulty battery that causes combustion together with an inefficient power management from the phone itself. I wonder if phones with discharged batteries could explode as well....
next time try microwave and you'll get a video in 3 minutes....it works 100% of the time with any mode. I understand that this is an isolated experiment in order to recycle mediatic trends but I see no point whatsoever
taste the rainbow! Yes! xoxoxo. I totally would have loved to take the magnet from a microwave to destroy one of these phones. I thought a hairdryer would be fun too... but with time constraints and a lack of funding.. this is what I was able to scrounge up from my house. Actually. This isn't exactly as pointless in the sense of media as you are morosely describing it to be. I did this experiment because I pre-ordered a Note 7...then when I tried to return it my store told me ... if it hasn't exploded yet... it probably wont... so Mashable, gave me a week to settle my thoughts in a playful way... mediatric trends.. i like that tho. sounds like a good new word to use around the office.
That's bullshit. Those Galaxy Note7 Did not blew up while being charge charged or discharged, also even via stress test ( apart from the left one ) none Note7 were showing any error messages. To litterally prove your test. You had to put your Note7 in front of a high tempeture?? Lamp. I can do the same on My Galaxy S7 and i would have the same results.
Wrong, go bogies go, wrong. This video isn't pointless to me and Im the one who wanted to do it. I was honestly kinda getting freaked out by my phone. I'm not totally scared that my phone is going to combust from excessive use..or being charged a lot.. or even being heated up to 67 degrees celsius. I tried to make it combust for 4 days straight.. until my company told me i couldn't wait any longer and had to take it down.. so then i used a lot of heat for some pay off. This is what it actually took to make a phone go boom. it took a lot.. now you know ;)
Go Bogies Go Fuckhead, did you read the title of the video? It doesn't say anything that you were thinking of, read the titles before you start watching, believe it or not, it will tell you alot about the video, did you watch too many prank videos and decided titles are useless?
great vid in my opinion. anyone think that later on it will be illegal to still own one. or if it is mandatory to return their note 7? i really dont want a damn iphone or galaxy 7 which is what I had haha.
lean dsz dude, have you ever seen the internal of a Samsung "flagship" compare to Sony or iPhone. They almost just put everything in place without considering consequences
really? this is totally worthless, as you say, any other phone would have failed, you should have tested some other phones at the same time, for comparison reasons
For those who are confused, the original purpose of this was to see if we could replicate the Note7 explosion caused by the potentially defective batteries in a live stream setting. No one is reading your explanation in the comment section on RUclips.
Should have been clear by the title of the clip or the article.
Great video... Thanks for this. 👏👏👏
It shows art majors work for mashable, not scientists.
did you try using the sun?
I always charge my phone in front of a giant lamp, I don't see the problem?
I hear if you use your microwave it works even better. jk.. pls don't.
1.your giant lamp is not hot enough
2.You did paste your phone infront of the lamp
3.You never charge your phone and run intesive games infront of the lamp.
Like Amerton said any phone would explode under this test, the real question is why are the note 7 exploding under normal daily use?

Charge Final Impact no its because they tried to push the battery's too hard
Might as well have said "We attached and ignited a C4 explosive bomb at 8:24 PM and it ... blew up"
any phone would have exploded under heat like that so your point is not valid
Exactly, they should've done a comparison between other popular devices.
Elwin de Witte "other popular devices" dude just say iphone. Is it that hard?
M.L iphone isnt the only other decent device on the market.
I'm pretty sure they were just showing that it takes a LOT for it to explode.

I think the full recall was overkill. The note 7 is probably safer than most cheap smart phones, but it was produced on such a large level that something happened to one and once it started it became a hot news story so everyone was giving it attention.
I bet a lot of phones will explode if you put them in front of a 1000W lamp...
Honestly I would've tried the physical stress test as well. People also carry them in their back pockets.
so even though it needs a torture to explode samsung still made sure the safety of their consumer is their utmost priority. that is what this test tells us.
So what you're telling me is that i shouldnt charge my phone by placing it in the oven anymore? Damn...I got to start reading manuals.
I'd say you are on to something Plague Doc. Sleep softly knowing it takes one hell of a lot to make this phone angry.
This isn't real world testing. I put an iron on top of my phone during charging, not a lamp.
Me when my phone explodes after throwing it into the pit of hellfire : 🤯🤯🤯
Anything you put in front a heat light will burn. This video makes the Note 7 very safe.
Any phone would explode under those kind of circumstances, your point is not valid...
Arbel Biton Fuck, all the leaftishere fans are here, get ready for all the retarded comments.
Apple Jack Oh,there comes the smartass..well sir,do you have anything else to call me stupid for? :D
so I have an old galaxy s3 right now. if I do exactly what you did (like exposing it to 67 degrees celsius with the lamp), is it guaranteed that my phone will not explode because it's not a galaxy note 7?
I think every phone will blow up if you attach the sun to it
I still think you should make another video about running more tests on different devices and see if they are gonna blow
Since you went out of the way and were intent on torturing the devices from 2nd day onwards, you should have kept the note 7s alongside other devices to see how those would fare in similar conditions. We all know note 7 explodes (be it under a lot of stress) but what about the others?
Guess the Note 7 is normally very safe.
You could explode any smartphone with this method! Try it on any iPhone I'm sure you will succeed.
what was the next step? setting the phone on fire ?
Actually... I wanted to do the same thing again... but film it with a thermal camera and see what temp it actually combusted at.
Yes we agree. That test was bullshit.
Could you try the same scenario above to iPhone 7 and 6S?
For comparison sake
If the phone overheated, why didn't it shut itself down?
It did for just a second...before it caught on fire. All of the warnings that came up, did not cause the phone to shut off ever... good question... i wonder why it didn't power down ever?...I was running a few apps..called Stayalive and Keepscreen... this could be why...
Thank you so much sir You've done a test that i wanted to do myself and you did a good job at it i'm pretty sure alot of people are going to be mad that they were lied to and had to recall lol.
So, if I strap my wife to a high wattage flood lamp she'll explode? Good to know. #HappyAnniversaryHoney
Well. Now we are getting into Human Combustion. I really don't want to know the steps its going to take you to do that... but.. then again.. maybe it would help prevent me from combusting.
Therese Mcpherson 😂
If I put it in front of my 800W lamp instead, would it still explode? I need to light the back of it to incubate the eggs inside it.
official answer, probably.
iTeCnus haahahahahah
the reason it exploded was it was sprint branded
My iPod blew up few months ago
Shame to see my idea with the Bluetooth didn't work but, Oh well! Great steam! And to anyone who saw me at the stream. . . HAVE A TOPHAT! (insert hat emoji here)
PS. . . Hat
have you tried it to the phones of other brands too?
when you put a fucking phone in front of a mega lamp nearly every phone explode !!! so thanks for this test
they were trying to say that it takes a LOT to get these phones to explode.
The title should be: "How to make a bomb work like a bomb"
how did you run those software stress tests?
What about other makes, like Motorola, LG, Nokia? Samsung design flaw, no stress test on batteries?
can someone explain the point of this vid
Still using and hugely collecting Note 7 phones, no problems at all.
1.59 it smelled like lithium. yeah i wonder why i really wonder why
"It smelled like lithium" - dang, thanks for reminding me to do my science hw when i was supposed to be distracted XD
this experiment is quite interesting. have you tried doing the same experiment using other phones like iphone 7 perhaps? just a random thought... 😊
people don't get the point of the video
if the phones dont blow up at 58C what did the Samsung engineers do wrong to make a phone reach above 60C when normally charging (which leads to explosions)
It's not at all responsible to test lithium battery combustion in an apartment environment.
+sophrapsune Very true. That's why we did these tests at the Morris County Fire Academy. And as a reminder, we do NOT recommend trying these tests at home.
@@Mashable, did you keep your exploded Note7? Like you know, as a collector's item?
Also, trying the Note Fan Edition, when it came out also wouldn't have been a bad idea.
Guys all you have to do is not turn your flash light on while playing a game with max brightness while charging on the stove to make sure your phone does not explode it may seem like extreme measures to avoid this but it is important
Aside from heat exposure batteries expand/explode due to contact with water or impact.

hi I conducted the same test on a small Asian child and he exploded. should there be a recall on Asian children or did it happen only because I did exaggerated tests. - note 7 user
They stopped Note 7 production so doing this is waste!
Still a fun stream though. Also i'm pretty sure this was done before they made that announcement.

Very Informative Video
Would you repeat the experiment using iphone and other brands please?
this would probably explode any phone
For the sake of science, a great experiment!
what does it take for a note 7 to explode? spamming livestream in your subscription box is what :P
and samsung couldn't replicate the explosion
I'm keeping mine he'll with the other phones, if you charge it at night just put it in a glass bowl.
next time try microwave and you'll get a video in 3 minutes....it works 100% of the time with any mode. I understand that this is an isolated experiment in order to recycle mediatic trends but I see no point whatsoever

el estrés de tú teléfono tiene solución viendo siempre la mejor intrusiones desde el fabricante
If the battery gets punctured in some way, it could also explode.
So this is a trend

I can do the same on My Galaxy S7 and i would have the same results.
In my opinion the phone should've shut itself off after it got so hot.
If I use J7 2016, it might not blow up while in maximum brightness / Outdoor mode on
Still my fav phone
I would like to know how many would do this just to be on the news. Like fake it.
try do the iphone in lamp.. at normal level the note 7 did not explode in the test..
No charge phone
i still have 14 working note 7, where is my money?
Pointless video. You basically cooked it until it failed?!
Wrong, go bogies go, wrong. This video isn't pointless to me and Im the one who wanted to do it. I was honestly kinda getting freaked out by my phone. I blame the lamp
great vid in my opinion. anyone think that later on it will be illegal to still own one. or if it is mandatory to return their note 7? i really dont want a damn iphone or galaxy 7 which is what I had haha.
Ha I just saw a samsung ad on this video
NO SHIT ! Einstien
What does it take to make Americans to like Samsung?
Paddy Austin the truth?
Bad internal engineering of Samsung, since the very beginning
Mann any phone would have done that with this test
lean dsz dude, have you ever seen the internal of a Samsung "flagship" compare to Sony or iPhone. They almost just put everything in place without considering consequences
your statement was pulled straight from your ass. Samsung is extremely good at physical engineering, unlike huawei, htc or apple.
+Davide Dopesick hes an Isheep bruh
lol Samsung manufactures parts for a lot of phone companies including Apple...
wonder how much money apple spend in blowing up the story! at least mashable puts the test before talking shit!
Explosive phone
