True, but just in general with something like this there are likely INTERNAL issues as well. It is really rare to have an extra appendage and not also extra internal issues. It could be a twin that didn't split properly or was almost reabsorbed or just a genetic anomoly but getting a UTI this young with good care is super telling that there are likely issues there as well. Could be too many or not enough kidneys, a bladder pocket or an extra bladder that cannot empty, etc. and I am curious about the intestine and anus region and if that is impeded in any way. I personally have malformed urinary tract issues. One kidney is too small, my ureters went in at the wrong angle, and I have a genetic disorder on top of that that causes kidney stones. They are separate issues (the genetic disease causing kidney stones was recessive and I have a brother and a cousin who ended up with it but they do not have any of the other issues that I do). I have had many many many UTIs, kidney stones, and hundreds of surgeries over my lifetime to get to a point where I no longer get constant infections and kidney stones. I would much rather have superpowers or an extra appendage and no other issues.

The owner couldn't make any money off her so dumped her. ........ So sorry she is sick. I hope she gets better soon. She's been thru a lot for such a young puppy.
It likely isn't genetic, these things can happen even with the most responsible breeders. However, a responsible breeder will care for a puppy with health issues, often losing money in the process because you don't make a huge profit by ethically caring for puppies. Abandoning her at the vet's office shows that her breeder was not a good one.
While I agree with your sentiment, I am also grateful that the puppy was surrendered rather than just thrown in the trash or abandoned outside where the pupy wouldn't have any care. At least the puppy was given the chance at survival. I am thankful for the love and care the foster mother has provided

They are people, who live off those animals and nobody would expect they have a heart for those animals. Breeding and breeder should be illegal

Some people are true thorns. They realized that Chanel No. 5 has a long road to recovery (I will give them the benefit of doubt maybe those who found her realized that they could not afford to make her healthy). Vets will keep puppers that have special needs simply because helping animals is their passion. When she was in your lap I couldn’t help but smile, she has a soft voice and anyone who loves animals can see that there is a spark in her. If it doesnt hurt them or impede function, it doesnt bother them at all. I had a dog many years ago with another odd looking malformed leg/foot coming off of her hip by her back leg. It was like the leg kinda duped itself or something. It was short, had bone in it, 2 malformed toe pads and claws. She could sort of twitch it but as it was only about 4 inches long and weirdly thick it just kinda hung out. It twitched when her normal leg moved but otherwise didnt move. She lived to be 14, a normal range for a dog of her size. Her name was Penta (five). We did have the claws on the 2 toes taken off as they didnt grow normal and were curling back into her foot but the foot/leg stayed. The vet didnt see the point in taking it off as it didnt bug her or catch on things and did have sensation. So no point in hurting her.

Chanel is adorable Her extra leg is a special feature. I am not medically trained but l am reminded that patience is a virtue. In time she may find ways to take advantage of her extra limb. She could use it for balance, or other applications. If it becomes a problem later on it can still be removed. I believe this will not affect her adoptability when the right family finds her.
She's going to be an incredibly loving and lovable dog with all the care you all are giving her. Someone's going to be lucky to have her in their family!

He and our son (who has but one hand) were the best of friends. We still so very much miss him ;-( Our son paid (couple of years ago) the micro surgery (very expenssive) for a canary, but it failed, sadly enough. But we would do it again if needed, out of love. Animals are beyond loving, honest, sweet, warm ...... So to all out there: take more than care for them, they need us!!! Lots of love from an old rebel-Pinkie

Could be her own mother refused to care for her because of the disability too. Giving her up might have saved her life.
