  • HTC has recently launched the HTC VIVE XR Elite, and we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try it out. The product is currently available for preorder at a price point of $1099, which includes the headset, two controllers, and a battery cradle. While we will need to conduct further testing to fully assess its capabilities, initial impressions are positive and it appears to be a strong competitor to the Meta Quest Pro.

    After the Cosmos, Vive Pro 2 and Vive Flow I had all but given up on HTC. This headset is already getting a far better reception than I anticipated, maybe they have finally turned a corner.

      Ya, fingers crossed this is a winner for them because we need more quality competition in this segment of consumer headsets. I’m thinking about buying one just to give them some support. As much as I love my Quest Pro I still also love my +3yo OG Vive Pro (VP1). Also a longtime VivePort infinity subscriber.

      I’ll be getting the XR elite to give HTC some support. I have the OG vive and love it. While this XR is expensive, I never want to support Meta and how much data they collect on their users

    You didn’t mention that there is a slider to add prescription to the lenses. That is an absolute game changer for me. Putting on any VR headset is wildly uncomfortable due to having to wear glasses as well. That feature alone warrants the purchase for me

    I'm getting this headset because of alot of consideration and what I want and don't want in a headset although the lynx r1 is also good but this has some features that even that doesn't have, bur what I wish it did have was the face and eye tracking to come out when the headset comes out but I guess I would have to wait

    The question is very important to me, and please answer it accurately!!
    What is the clarity of the lenses, is it the same as the well-known LCD TV screen such as (Sony, Samsung, LG) and others???
    I own a Pico 4 headset, is there a clear difference in pixels between it and the Pico 4???

    You never talked about the good things like for people with glasses can put there prescription in the unit and use glasses free or that face tracking and eye tracking module is separately coming out I already ordered it because the oculus quest 2 is like strapping on a microwave

    Great video, a solid snapshot of what the VIVE XR Elite is all about. Just a little amend on weight : it is 625g, with battery pack. Impressively lightweight!

    Is this really any better than the Pico 4 in VR mode? I'm not much interested in the passthrough or mixed reality.

    I really love my Quest 2, but I still wanna give this XR a try sometime. In terms of environments and interconnectivity though, I still prefer the Metaverse. I hope that oculus can achieve something similar or better than this with the quest 3 model.

    Question 1 :"Can it cross-play contractors VR, VRchat and other steam VR games ?"
    Question 2 :"Can it play none-VR games(uses VR TV and pc USB keyboard) ?"

    Looks really good, but I'm somewhat worried about available software. Because the Quest has its own set of games and applications specifically tailored to the limited resources of a stand-alone headset, but nothing like that exists in the Steam/Viveport ecosystem AFAIK. Now, this is of course not a technical problem, but I wonder how many developers will create a special build for this headset and without that the choice of games/apps would be pretty limited I guess.

      This shouldn't actually be a big deal. I spoke with some of the htc guys during ces and they said it should be easy to code one project and port it to both headsets. Planning to test this out myself once I get mine.

    • @quintesse
      @quintesse Год назад +1

      @@DarkforcesII True, I don't think it's so much of a technical hurdle, just wondering if most or even many developers will actually do so. I really hope so because the hardware seems really great. I like the fact that they made the head strap + battery removable. I much prefer a battery on my belt than making the headset heavier. And with this headset already very light I don't see much use for counter balance. In fact I'd rather see manufacturers go towards a compute puck like the Magic Leap (maybe Apple too?) that you put on your belt and have a extremely lightweight minimal headset.

      I have a quest pro, playing HL Alyx cabled to the PC vs wireless is an amazing difference. But playing wireless not worrying about the cable is also amazing. I would prefer the ability to install like it was a PC VS having to go through their store. I think where I am at a month into it need to experiment with some dedicated better wireless options VS just using 5g off the router.

      I am planning to jump into XR Elite too and I share your opinion but it does not seem like a big deal since I plan mostly to use it with the PC via WiFi 6E (which means better quality content than the native standalone one anyway). Hopefully, there will be enough consumers who will do this decision to make developers create "standalone VR content" for HTCs device too, and stop being locked in the environment made by advertising companies who live on harvesting user data (cough cough Meta).

    • @janfric1507
      @janfric1507 Год назад

      @@jeffstrains4014 If you want top-notch visual quality for PC VR you should skip XR Elite as well as the Quest pro and jump straight into Vive Pro 2 with VIVE Wireless Adapter which runs on 60 GHz. It can handle the VIVE Pro 1 with no quality drop whatsoever. Unfortunately, the Wireless Adapter is unable to fill all the potential of VIVE Pro 2 (there is a small drop in resolution and refresh rate - specifically from 120 Hz to 90 Hz).
      Anyway, even the VIVE XR Elite will be an upgrade for you regarding the Wireless play since it supports the WiFi 6E (6 GHz) - much quicker with wider bandwidth and speeds than the WiFi 6 (5 GHz) on the Quest Pro.

    the biggest difference I see is the controllers. If I was spending around that much money, I would definitely choose the pro because of the controllers as the upgrade easily justifies the extra money to me.

    One, I'll never be in the METAVERSE. Two, if this headset can't support simulators, XPlane 12 and MSFS, then it's worthless. I need to see the list of VR games this headset supports. Three, I'd probably wait for the next version before purchasing this VR/XR headset anyways.
