Yea jst a normal dude, and very informed and organised videos still. I don't get some of the crazy other channels. Chess was always about relaxing a little, taking your time, patience, having a good time, Brain not mouth.
Another great lesson! I used to be a teacher, and I'm very impressed by your natural ability to find the balance between making progress with a topic, and repeating what needs repeating - and all done with complete clarity of thought and expression. Many thanks.
Yea his videos are good. But it's a hobby, if it is boring to you... I don't know what to say. Just used to videos, but videos are not always the best/fastest. Anyways he is pretty concise and it's easier especially when facing it first time, he presents it very well with voice, face, chessboard, figures moving, it's actually very efficient. But say to look smth up there is other.
These are great, thank you. In these king-is-separate-from-another-piece positions, I also try to see if there's ever a time the rook can skewer the king to win the piece, but everyone knows that already :)
As a 1600 Elo player I have to admit I had no idea how you could win in those situations. They really don't come up very often but I'm so glad that I watched that. Brilliantly explained.
Idk why , but after watching your videos i am actually able to remember these concepts while playing in the game ,otherwise i always forget whatever opening traps or endgames most of the chess youtubers teaches
By the way, I once had an unusual pawnless endgame in a serious competative game.. I was an entire rook up, but unfortunately I was not able to find a way to win. I think we had two minor pieces each as well, which is indeed a very unusual situation to find yourself in, wich of crouse was the reason I was more or less clueless in the actual over-the-board situaion.
I always thought, naively I must say, that this kind of endgame, or rook vs bishop, is winning for the side with the rook! Turns out it's not the case! But, in reality, I didn't know anything about this endgame, since it never occurred in one of my games! Now I know a lot! 😀 Thanks a lot Nelson sir, very informative and helpful video as always! Keep it up! 💪 I have a suggestion for an upcoming video, as I'm very keen on endgames and improving my technique and skills there, especially in imbalanced ones like the ones you presented on your video! So, I saw a couple of hours ago the latest Gothamchess video that involved a win by Magnus against Vallejo Pons in an endgame with rook vs knight plus a bishop of opposite colours for each side and I found fascinating the way Magnus navigated and ultimately converted that game! If you would be so kind as to show us how to approach those kind of imbalanced endgames I would be more than grateful! Thanks a lot in advance! And all the best sir! ✌️
Your videos suddenly come up in my youtube recommendation recently didn't even realise this is a new video, great video i prob should watch your K+B+N vs K video, i have watched another video about it before but i can never remember all the steps/situation
Thanks for this! Can you make more videos about using the knight? They're the hardest piece for me to use most effectively...I never know how to get it where I want it to go. That being said, I just managed to break 800 blitz rating in a closed position game with no bishops and a sweet checkmate threat with two knights and a forced queen capture 😊
The idea is really similar to checkmate a lone king, we need to slowly squeeze the region for the piece (king/knight) to move and finally create an attack it cannot escape
Another technique can be done at 2:09 White goes Ke6, The night has no good squares to go to, so the black has to play Ke8, white follows up with Rg8+ black has to play Nf8 and white responds Rh8 and puts black in zugzwang voila...
I've been back to playing chess 5 months ago and and just barely won a rock vs knight end game. I had the advantage, but it almost got to a draw, until my opponent let me pin his knight away from the king. Actually, it 3 pawns and a rook vs 3 pawns and a knight: 8/R3pk1p/6p1/4P3/3n1p2/7P/5PP1/5K2 w - - 0 33
2:26 I would play the rook that way to threat checkmate so I will keep it on the 1st line but just move it. If black king moves to the corner it's mate and if he moves away we take the knight
Maybe do a series on end game positions too. It’s consistent expectant content that makes or breaks a lot of channels. If you notice a lot of channels have a series or live interaction often and it’s what mAkes the channels. Just trying to help with a few suggestions
Those pesky Knights! It does matter what the king does because it’s difficult to keep the knight near the side or the corner with the king covering a few squares without the opponents king coming after the rook. I usually play against the computer and I have not yet found a win. Thx
Question: in the first position, doesn’t Ke6 win outright due to zugzwang? Edit: verdict: It's more straightforward and wins the knight faster, but the sequence shown in the video wins the game faster, as black not abandoning the knight loses quite fast and otherwise the knight is won faster anyways
i think he already covered this topic. - does this move put your king in danger? -does this move put your pieces in danger? are any of your pieces being attacked? -does this move checkmate the enemy king? -does this move attack any of the enemy pieces? i think that's the summary of the previous vid. TLDR : check your own pieces first then proceed to evaluating enemy pieces before making a move.
Ok, but what's about how to win King and Knight vs Rook and Knight? : ) Answer is easy: move your figures faster than opponent and it will be "cooperative mate" when opponent's time is run out. It is so stupid rule in chess but rule is rule.
I tried to replicate the last position, at 6:10 instead of b6 goes c8 then plays out the same until 6:26 when instead of f4 goes f8 where then you must go ke7 then ng6# and then it is not possible to stop the knight from reaching the king. from the start white only had a +0.47 advantage so does this rely on your opponent not using perfect play? this is based on max engine
Came here after winning rook vs knight endgame... Well, it was not a strategic win. I just got lucky...😂 So I was really curious if there are strategies...
Once the black king and knight are aligned in either rank or file, you can fork them with the rook and end the game faster. You missed this tactic in your analysis.
Finally, someone who talks naturally and not at a breakneck speed. Thank you Nelson for a most informative video.
Glad it was helpful!
Yea jst a normal dude, and very informed and organised videos still. I don't get some of the crazy other channels. Chess was always about relaxing a little, taking your time, patience, having a good time, Brain not mouth.
I read it "not at a neckbeard speed" and I don't want to laugh about this alone

True ! I struggle to keep up with many of the chess trainers on YT for this reason !
Another great lesson! I used to be a teacher, and I'm very impressed by your natural ability to find the balance between making progress with a topic, and repeating what needs repeating - and all done with complete clarity of thought and expression. Many thanks.
I would love more endgame studies!
They may be boring to study, but videos to help make it more entertaining.
Thanks Nelson!!

Bro commented a year late with some wack ass nonsense😂
When the King and Knight are separated I like to think of using your pieces to "checkmate the knight" aka trap and win it.
This is exactly what the video says...
@@stuckels not checkmating the knight
@@Frestho i like your phrasing! Sort of like trapping a queen, really is checkmating a queen.
Love your tutorials. I've been playing for 60 yrs. Still learn another from you, thanks.

More pawnless endgames, please! They are so interesting. Two bishops versus knight is my favourite. Very difficult, but fascinating and beautiful!
Great video I'm definitely going to try to remember this one.

Idk why , but after watching your videos i am actually able to remember these concepts while playing in the game ,otherwise i always forget whatever opening traps or endgames most of the chess youtubers teaches
it's the correct chemistry. Your brains connect better.
great vid, hope I remember this when I need it. Well Done!😎👍
@2:09 Ke6 is similar to the idea. Ke6, Ke8, Rg8+, Nf8+, Kf6 forcing the king to move away and Rxf8.
For those who are wondering "At 6:55, what to do if black played Nh3, instead of Nh5?"
The answer is: Rg2, corraling the horse.
Or kg4

@2:22 another option is Ra/b/c/d/e1.
If Nf8 or Kh8, Ra/b/c/d/e8 and then it's mate in 1.
Anything else and black loses the knight.

One of the best info Bravooooooo
What kind of mouse control you use and what kind of electronics you use to explain your strategies on how to and where to and how to win
6:12 when Kc8 what can I do? if i do the same with you later, then i failed.
2:26 I would play the rook that way to threat checkmate so I will keep it on the 1st line but just move it. If black king moves to the corner it's mate and if he moves away we take the knight
Fork the king and knight at 6:24 to win the knight… Rd6+ is the best move in that position.
Whites king is in check, they have no choice but to move the king.
This channel may want to create an End Games playlist.
Maybe do a series on end game positions too. It’s consistent expectant content that makes or breaks a lot of channels. If you notice a lot of channels have a series or live interaction often and it’s what mAkes the channels. Just trying to help with a few suggestions
Superb. Thanks. One day, you never know.
For the first position why can’t you do Ke6 Ke8 Rg8+ Nf8+ and Kf6 winning the knight?
I still need a way to reliably draw this, I feel like I keep getting backed into a corner or pinned
Thank you
Nelson, fantastic video! Now the knight won’t be such a pain. You should make 1000 of these videos for each piece… Yes I am being greedy :)
Nice one.

what if there's some pawns involved too

Hi , could you please consider making a video on how to think in chess? Like, the questions you should ask yourself before making a move, etc.
i think he already covered this topic.
- does this move put your king in danger?
-does this move put your pieces in danger? are any of your pieces being attacked?
-does this move checkmate the enemy king?
-does this move attack any of the enemy pieces?
i think that's the summary of the previous vid.
TLDR : check your own pieces first then proceed to evaluating enemy pieces before making a move.
i definitely won’t be able during a blitz to so this
Good knowledge to handle knights ........
Was there Rf5? because if ...Ne7, Rf7 wins the knight
u can also trap the knight in a fork
In the fist position am I the only one who saw Ke6, threatening måte after black king moves to e8 or lose the knight
I never knew they are books on chess, that too for just endings. :|
What about Nf8 scenario?
In 6:24 you could play rook d6 fork the King and the Kinght.
It’s check
appreciate it

What rook vs bishop?
If the black king goes to kc8 instead of kb6, with moving to Ke5 draws the game.
Why not when the king and knight are on the side just go king e6 and mate black (idk im nóg a GM)
Wow❤️
Man why ??why you stopped making videos???
You gotta keep'em separated

I think its based on a mix of human moves or more natural moves instead of an engine but i could be wrong here man
Merci
Came here after winning rook vs knight endgame... Well, it was not a strategic win. I just got lucky...😂
So I was really curious if there are strategies...
I tried this, and that knight trapped my rook and then checkmated me 🤦♂️😩
they will fork my rook for sure lol
6:21 ..... or you play Rd6 and pick up the knight :P
generally it's a draw
Rh1 just trap the knight so why Kg6?
2:17
A knight on the rim is dim. :)
6:22 Why didnt he just move the rook to check the King and win the knight?
Ohh
Just realized he got checked...
You really butchered up Yasser's name quite badly.
Pls
Notif squad
Liar the 2nd position is a draw
Ke6 at 2:12?
Nh3 at 7:00?
Yea I thought the same for 2:12, Ke6 Ke8, Rg8+ Nf8+, Kf6 Ke7(or 8, black is in zugzwang) Rxf8 just winning the knight
pretty late but if Nh3 then Rg2 which take away the g1 and f2 square, then black moves the king and with Kg4 the knight is trapped
