I don't know why Badard is valued so high. Compared to Matthews, McDavid, and Ovi. He has had a luck lustre start to the season. In a few years, once he starts lighting it up, I can see the value currently his cards are way over valued.
unfortunately, the inflation that we seeing the hobby right now is driven by hype around Bedard so that’s why boxes of series 2 are going for $300 even on pre-order, that’s not real value at all. When you combine this with the fact that the quality control is crap and they over printed the shit out of these cards. I don’t understand why anybody is going to think it’s a smart idea to actually go crazy on this stuff and hunt down his rookie card when in like a year it’s gonna drop in value by like half. So I’m steering clear of the hype, I’m not even sure if I’m gonna buy one box cause I can’t justify $300 for a box of upper deck
@nikmastromarino2704 I am not disputing the cost of the boxes or packs. Obviously, they will be more because of his card. What I am disputing is the value of his card. He hasn't had the start everyone was betting on. Hence, his card in my opinion, isn't worth more then 500 hundred dollars at this point. It's not the 3000 to 6000 it's going for.
Yeah, that always seems to be the case, it’s really annoying how the popularity of somebody makes the price go insane versus it being more related to what happens in real life. I’m definitely planning on picking up one of his rookie cards but I may have to wait until summer, because I will not be able to afford to just hunt him down through packs. The other thing that’s really annoying is how common sense about rarity of a card doesn’t correlate to what it should be valued a. The Easter egg card in series one should be way more valuable because of rarity even though it’s not technically considered his rookie card. But it could be because it’s actually in his rookie year and he has already skated. Otherwise it wouldn’t have been able to make the card at all. But yet everybody’s gonna go crazy over the young gun and there’s gonna be like 150,000 of those printed, so why should that be insanely valuable compared to the Easter egg card? That’s the thing that’s made me crazy about this hobby over the years I would much rather have a serial numbered card of a rookie or something that looks cooler, in my opinion, like the canvas cards, rather than just the regular old young gun card. yet when you look at values at something like an artifact card, that’s limited to like 1000 versus their young gun card. The young gun is always more valuable. It’s just stupid.
I know what you mean as Series 2 will probably be the first year I will rely solely on retail. With tins retailing for $60US each you are paying $20 a Young Gun which is ridiculous and having to buy at least 17 tins to get 51 Young Guns is better than paying $2700 to try and get one Bedard. Yes hobby has more value packed into it but 99% of the inserts are just worthless filler.
Upper Deck can make the special insert card even if Bedard hadn’t skated in one game because it’s not part of the regular set. The same rule applies in Bowman Baseball with all of the prospect cards that are issued years before the players true rookies. The value of the Bedard card reflects this logic as people want the true Young Guns.
