i believe there were three wolf men in this movie the first wolf that blake's father went after and it apparently attacked him and he became the second wolf man and there's blake at the end as the third wolf in the line
Likewise! I like the movie overall, but the title would of been better if they called it by what this movie really is. A man with a wolf face, a Wolf Man. Fuck it call it Wolf Man lol.
Good take. The horror of the situation is experienced from both the main character and the wife and daughter. He wants to protect his wife and daughter but he is slowly becoming something else that is an inner struggle for him. This take that being a werewolf is like a terminal illness you cannot come back from and then portraying the stages of death was amazing in itself. You experienced this from both the perspective of the main character and his wife and daughter. It wasnt a mushroom trip with its vision. It was just heightened vision, which i thought was another great take on how nocturnal animals hunt. The lore of the werewolf changes did not bother me, but i do wish that the look of the werewolf was a bit better. But in actuality this werewolf is scary because wheb bitten or scratched and you survive you are nearly instantly a werewolf. This could get out of hand if the infection were to run rampant. In addition, werewolves not bound by the moon? Attacking in the day? Pretty scary. Very similar to The Howling.
The comparison to Supernatural was brilliant! I can't believe I didn't realize that until now. Awesome review. I agree that the wolf man should've had more hair!
I genuinely enjoyed this film a lot & came in with certain expectations. The sound design of the werewolf was great & I loved how we get to see the perspective of changing into this creature. I do agree on the design & I get that this was supposed to be more of a disease than a curse but you cant make one of the monsters known for having hair all over their body barely have it at all lol. I do wish they gave us a little bit more of an explanation of this disease too. Would watch this movie again honestly. It was a great time for me since this is my favorite supernatural creature!

@@NerdSquish I think they were actually three werewolves in the film. The one that attacked the truck was the dad that initially infected the sun. The second one was the guy was his childhood friend.
With a little bit of context, the werewolf design at Universal Studios was actually a concept design. Director Leigh Whannell actually displayed his frustration towards Universal for showcasing their design because it wasn’t the final look. I’m personally not upset at how much of the werewolf lore was changed in the film. Whannell has stated that he likes to ground his films & have some semblance of realism or reality. When he directed “The Invisible Man,” instead of going with the original concept work of a mad scientist who drinks an invisible potion that permanently turns him invisible & wants to rule the world, the invisibility aspect is more tech based & it’s more of a choice to be invisible as opposed to it being permanent. He went with this approach because he felt it was grounded in reality. With the “Wolf Man,” instead of following the old trope of man turning into a wolf at the light of the full moon, his Wolf Man is more diseased based & that it doesn’t follow the phases of the moon at all & appearing to be a permanent change. Looking at it through that perspective, then the look of the Wolf Man makes more sense as it’s treated as more of an illness than a supernatural phenomenon. It’s also not the 1st time of werewolves being hairless in films. The 1st Underworld movie showcased their werewolves as being mostly hairless with only a streak of hair running along the line of their backs. They also don’t follow the moon phases either as they called themselves “Lycans” instead of just werewolves due to being the next generation of werewolves capable of controlling their transformation at will, as opposed to the previous generation where their transformation was permanent & never to return to human form again. I think it’s perfectly fine for filmmakers to explore different avenues of how to portray these characters to add some new “flavors” to the lore.

I thought it was pretty good myself, it really grew on me. The opening scene is faultless. My favorite design ever is the 2010 version (which is also my all time favorite horror movie) but I’m personally glad they didn’t try to replicate another more classic look here and although not my favorite it was different, the make up and effects of it were good and I don’t think the amount of hair necessarily makes or breaks it especially with the lore they did establish for this iteration. The isolation of the mainly one location I am also a sucker for.
It reminded me of ginger snaps Note i think a cool way it had ended was if blake had turned charlotte and ginger and they would have been a werewolf family
Honestly...I wish there was more body horror to this film. Leigh was saying that the two big films that inspired him for this, was The Thing and The Fly. So, why not go with that concept for the transformation. Have the finger bones grow, but not the skin, causing pieces of the skin to tear open. The body is covered with stretch marks, ingrown hairs and varicose veins due to the rapid alterations going on. Have the final design be similar to Lupins in Harry Potter, with it being emaciated, the limbs enlonagted, spine almost jutting out forcing Blake into a primal stance, and while he keeps the classic dog nose, the jaw itself is unhinged and almost elongated (the formations of a snout, but the body hasn't had any time for the nose and mouth bones to fuse) And of course....some more hair. Doesn't have to be a ton, I actually don't mind the body at first losing hair due to the massive amount of stress the bodies going through, but after that have some more coarse hair covering his body, similar to the look in 2013's Wer.

Hello werewolf fans, Been looking forward to hearing about the new Wolfman movie. I plan to see it. The original Wolfman is one of my favorite movies. I like the 2010 version. It was picked on by a lot of people. It is a Worthy movie. The new one sounds like a great movie. With a bad spider. For years now! They werewolves are like a virus. Like in Underworld. The werewolves can control the change. In less William bit you. You stay a wolf forever. I'm still a big werewolf fan.
@ that was a very good movie and i hope when They do the bride and the new Frankenstein movie and hopefully the new the creature from the black lagoon will be good stand alone movie as well
He is not as hairy because, unlike traditional wolfmen, he doesn't turn at the moon and returns at night, so he's not gonna grow all his hair at once it's gonna grow over time. We got a glimpse at it with him having a little hair, but if he had survived and lived for a few weeks he would grow more hair. Like his father did. He was likely losing his human hair because it would be replaced with "animal" hair
There’s different versions of werewolves where they don’t turn back to human. And other versions where it is more of an infection rather than a curse under the moon. This version combines the two into a more grounded version. One where folklore could have come from this physically altering rabies like disease. The main character isnt really the final version of the were wolf as they turn more and more animalistic or “wolf like” over time. Where he is only turned until morning. So I still think it counts as a “wolf man” as the physical features are still more human than wolf, and the behavior is more wolf. That’s being said. Yes I enjoyed the movie. Yes the fully turned “werewolf” disappointed. But the majority of werewolf movies lack the extra bit that would have put them at the top.
Great review! Unfortunately for me this film was overall a nay! I do agree with you that it was a good werewolf story but shouldn't be titled Wolfman. @NerdSquish Yeah, I think it would have worked better if they added hair it i get that they might have been on a tight budget, but it would have been werewolf look that we're all familiar with.
It apparently takes inspiration from the fly reboot. I personally disliked everything about this film has me worried about the other monsters they may take on.
I saw it yesterday, it was like he had a resident evil virus,i mean they made him look like a zombie more than anything, like a crackhead 😂,and yeah had nothing to do with the original, i liked the beginning it was coolm,im like ok might be cool, then it dragged on it was good and bad,the end was ok when he got caught in the bear trap ,bit his foot off and ran on four legs like a regular animal
Are you serious?! NOTHING in this movie is original or new... Wolf POV - already done in 2010 Wolfman Senses changing - also 2010 movie Becoming werewolf shown as a disease - already done in Wer No turning back after transformation - already done in Ginger Snaps Trapped in a house, bad stuff both in and out side - Dog Soldiers had masterclass in that! Not to mention The Fly and The Shining... TBH, the movie had its good moments, but it's too long, makes a great build up only for you to get nothing in the end... Oh, and the creature design... Whoever thought of that deserves to be publicly flogged! That killed the movie for me; knowing it is actually a hobo that's chasing them made all the scenes not scary. Funny even... Overall, he is making Invisible Man again and again and again... That becomes boring quickly... Overall, this movie is a disaster and no wonder it bombs at the box office...
Yeah even though I still love The Invisible Man more I still personally really really enjoyed Wolf Man and I've already seen this movie twice in theaters , even though I really enjoyed this movie it does movie a little too fast like I wish this movie was 15 to 20 minutes longer and I wish we actually saw how the father got infected i wanted to see what happened to Blake's dad and how he became a Wolf Man and I wanted to more lore about these Werewolves like give me the lore ! Lol but besides these nitpicks I still really really like this movie, one more thing yeah the most scary thing about these things is that if these werewolves simply just scratch you you become that thing forever there's no back and forth every full moon 3 times in a month and you are yourself most of the time nah you are stuck as that ugly mindless killing machine forever until you eventually hopefully die 😳😬
@@NerdSquish i know right ! , also you made a great point when you said if Leigh Whannell and Blumhouse has said this was an original werewolf movie not related to the Wolf Man or universal monster IP and had just called this Face of the Wolf people would be a lot more receptive and accepting of this movie.

@NerdSquish Yeah, I think it would have worked better if they added hair it i get that they might have been on a tight budget, but it would have been werewolf look that we're all familiar with.
I will have to come back tomorrow after watching the movie😭😭
The movie disappointed me it wasn't scary to me I didn't like the wolfman design it didn't look like a werewolf more like a zombie
definitely looked more zombie/Gollum like
i like the concept i really do
It apparently takes inspiration from the fly reboot. I personally disliked everything about this film has me worried about the other monsters they may take on.
@@ryusteel4556 when I saw modern Creature is in production, I about fell out my chair thinking about how terrible that would be 🤣
Why do they always want werewolves to be hairless??
@@sucha_shocker an excellent question 😂
I saw it yesterday, it was like he had a resident evil virus,i mean they made him look like a zombie more than anything, like a crackhead 😂,and yeah had nothing to do with the original, i liked the beginning it was coolm,im like ok might be cool, then it dragged on it was good and bad,the end was ok when he got caught in the bear trap ,bit his foot off and ran on four legs like a regular animal
@@ChristopherFava-z2y even though it’s not the best film ever, I always like to try to find the good parts of a movie 😁
I'm telling myself that the wolfman had mange.
@@The_Savvy_Satyr 😂🤣😂 for sure
Are you serious?! NOTHING in this movie is original or new...
Wolf POV - already done in 2010 Wolfman
Senses changing - also 2010 movie
Becoming werewolf shown as a disease - already done in Wer
No turning back after transformation - already done in Ginger Snaps
Trapped in a house, bad stuff both in and out side - Dog Soldiers had masterclass in that!
@@roderick8167 yes, I need more lore!!!
The problem with making the wolf man some kind of disease, is that you’re literally making him into an agile balding zombie 😂
@@marseanbostic3377 yeah this is zombie/wendigo territory.
