If you're early game to mid game and you need the extra survivability, maybe human or dwarf. If you're in end game or plan on playing end game stuff later, I'd go drow or renegade drow to allow for extra damage for your team. I play my main tank as a renegade drow. I'm at 88k IL or so, and I definitely don't need the extra defensive stats from a race to survive something like master defense of the moondancer.
Generally, what's your biggest challenge? Grabbing threat on enemies, maintaining threat from HDPS, surviving lieutenants, or surviving tank buster (or something else)? I got advice from one of the best tanks in the game to try using sentinel's slash and sure strike as the at-wills -- no challenger's slash. Felt a little risky and weird at first, but assuming you have one of the rings with raging bull bonus and you hit a sentinel's slash before moving around, you can still maintain AOE threat. Then you have sentinel's slash with frustrating slash feat to increase your threat and sure strike to restore stamina. For encounters, I'm always slotting Come and Get It and one survivability encounter (ignore weakness / enduring shout). I'm usually also slotting Punishing Charge with the class feature to make it a single target hard taunt -- then I can isolate a lieutenant or, in last phase, separate a lieutenant from the boss more easily. If I'm having trouble surviving toward the end (too many debuff stacks), I'll switch out Punishing Charge for a second survivability encounter. My current goal is to consistently get to the final phase with no Starfire Burn debuff stacks, in which case I think I'll be ready for another attempt at the master version of the trial.
@@Timbo-gk5sf you have no idea what you're talking about, you god bad advice from clearly not one of the best tanks, a bad tank, also clueless (pay to win I bet lol). Sentinel's slash is terrible, useless, very slow, clunky as hell, horrible animation takes forever even at minimum charge, does no damage (less threat from damage), should never be used, serves no purpose really. Unlike the bad advice you got and are giving to others, you don't need to use that horrible at-will with ring. In order to generate threat, you just need to run around, that's it, simple lol. Using sentinel's slash is counter-productive because with so many mobs around, you need to run around as fast as possible to aggro as many of them as you can, sentinel's slash makes you stop while you cast its garbage badly programmed animation, causes you to lose speed for no reason since it's an useless at-will. You further prove my point that you are clueless considering you said "raging bull" lol no, it's not "raging", it's called charging* bull. Come and get it also useless, has tiny radius, does no damage, it's another useless waste of time, to be avoided.
@@Batman-vl8yj Oh, that's weird, I don't seem to have any trouble at all clearing the trial every time I'm in there. I must be the luckiest guy in the world.
@Timbo what race would you say is BIS for a Barb tank?
