The Shōnan Monorail is a mostly single-tracked suspension railway in the Shōnan region of Kanagawa Prefecture. It runs along a mountain pass between Ōfuna and Shōnan-Enoshima, with tunnels, viaducts, sharp grades, and sharp turns that make full use of its suspended monorail technology. Often likened to a roller coaster, it is a unique line that, despite its infrastructure limitations, runs a frequent service.
Plans originally considered extending to Katase-Enoshima but these plans were blocked by the Enoshima Electric Railway as the short extension would have severely cut into their market share due to the Shōnan Monorail providing a more frequent and direct service that delivers customers closer to the island.
