With the introduction of the fabulous 707 in 1958, Boeing was able to trim the time for coast-to-coast flights to around five hours, depending on prevailing winds. This was a tremendous time saver for passengers and a number that has not been improved on since. The Boeing 707 had a wingspan of 130 feet 10 inches, an overall length of 144 feet 6 inches, a wing sweepback of 35 degrees, and a maximum weight at takeoff of 247,000 lbs. It had a cruising speed of approximately 575 mph, an operational altitude of up to 40,000 feet, and a transcontinental non-stop range. The Flagship could carry up to 150 passengers in air-conditioned comfort and luxury. As a result of the specially designed window arrangement, they were afforded greater visibility of the wondrous sights to be seen during flight. The militaries of the US and other countries have used the civilian 707 aircraft in a variety of roles, and under different designations. The Boeing E-3 Sentry was a US military airborne warning and control system (AWACS). There was also an E-6 Mercury Airborne Command and Control version. The Northrop Grumman E-8 Joint STARS is an aircraft modified from the Boeing 707-300. Also, the VC-137C variant of the Stratoliner was a special-purpose VIP design meant to serve as Air Force One, the secure transport for the President of the United States from 1962 to 1990.
Trans World Airlines flew the last scheduled 707 flight for passengers by a US carrier on October 30, 1983, although 707's remained in service by airlines from other nations for much longer. As of 2019, only a handful of 707s remained in operation, acting as military aircraft for aerial refueling, transport, and AWACS missions.
The Boeing 707 is an American long-range narrow-body airliner that was developed and produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, its first jetliner. Developed from the Boeing 367-80, a prototype first flown in 1954, the initial 707-120 first flew on December 20, 1957. Pan American World Airways began regular 707 service on October 26, 1958. The airplane was built until 1979. A quadjet, the 707 has a swept wing with podded engines. Its larger fuselage cross-section allowed six-abreast economy seating, retained in the later 720, 727, 737, and 757.
Although it was not the first commercial jetliner in service, the 707 was the first to be widespread and is often credited with beginning the Jet Age.[5] It dominated passenger air transport in the 1960s, and remained common through the 1970s, on domestic, transcontinental, and transatlantic flights, as well as cargo and military applications. It established Boeing as a dominant airliner manufacturer with its 7x7 series. The initial, 145-foot-long (44 m) 707-120 was powered by Pratt & Whitney JT3C turbojet engines. The shortened long-range 707-138 and the more powerful 707-220 entered service in 1959. The longer range, heavier 707-300/400 series have a larger wing and are stretched slightly by 8 feet (2.4 m). Powered by Pratt & Whitney JT4A turbojets, the 707-320 entered service in 1959, and the 707-420 with Rolls-Royce Conway turbofans in 1960.
The 720, a lighter short-range variant, was also introduced in 1960. Powered by Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbofans, the 707-120B debuted in 1961 and the 707-320B in 1962. The 707-120B typically flew 137 passengers in two classes over 3,600 nmi (6,700 km), and could accommodate 174 in one class. With 141 passengers in two classes, the 707-320/420 could fly 3,750 nmi (6,940 km) and the 707-320B up to 5,000 nmi (9,300 km). The 707-320C convertible passenger-freighter model entered service in 1963, and passenger 707s have been converted to freighter configurations. Military derivatives include the E-3 Sentry airborne reconnaissance aircraft and the C-137 Stratoliner VIP transport. A total of 865 Boeing 707s were produced and delivered, not including 154 Boeing 720s.

Always loved airliner model kits because they depict the type of aircraft most people see every day. Seeing your challenges with the decals on this one reminded me of why I stopped building airliners when I was about ten years old! But I love the end result with this historically significant plane.

The section in which you struggle with the decals was especially helpful. It shows how to recover from a fold-over and other issues. That's particularly true of the areas where you had to apply decals over decals. Very tricky!
    Bravo, sir.

Very nice model. Would have been easier to apply if the window decal strip had been in several parts, I find long decals can sometimes twist and be awkward to move into position.

That pedestal base brought back memories-- I had a Revell B-47 and B-36 with that base. I think it was called the swivel base, and it broke very easily. The problem was in the prongs that held the ball on the underside of the fuselage. The plastic was too brittle. I ended up hanging the planes on the wall of my room.

I picked up few hours ago Atlantis Convair 990 and started building it. It is such a nice kit: no flash, just a few sink marks on the engine pylons, recessed panel lines.
In regards to the 707 kit: currently you can get 1/144 Minicraft 707 (either as VC-137C or NATO E-3 AWACS) for $20-$30 so atlantis offering does not make too much sense.

This is a model of the 707-120, the very first 707 in the series, and therefore historic. The 707-121 was the type flown by Pan American Airways, which flew the first U.S. trans-Atlantic routes starting in October 1958.

    • @alexx86hater

@@peterespada6226 My problem is not really with this particular registration but with the model itself. As you can see quality of that model (at least what we see in the video) is very low, accuracy of it is also a bit questionable. Plus raised panel lines, plus raised rivets, not really good fitting halves.A kid or a newbie would enjoy much more some either other atlantis models (for example that Convair 990 I mentioned) or some airfix starter set where somebody who knows about the aircraft would probably have to convince themselves about "nostalgia" or "there are no other early Boeings" and slicing and dicing Roden 720 is not my thing (basically only thing that makes the kit is a decal)...

I’m currently building the Atlantis 707-120 myself and, for sure, it needs a lot of work, but I’m willing to do it to get the correct type. Not everyone feels that way, alas.

Building a Boeing 707 on your 707th video would have been cool - but I miscounted the number of Boeings they made (it was 709).
One MINOR issue - maybe you forgot to put film in the camera for this part - what colors did you paint the passenger seats? Carpets?
    Hopefully someone is laughing...
