This is great. I think Ford was having fun with this interviewer and switching back and forth from French to English and back again. Some of his answers show this like the one about how he filmed a panoramic sequence and he says "With a camera." And what did he expect to achieve with his first movies -- "A check." At one point, Ford asks the interviewer if he's speaking English. Then he also asks for the French word for lawyer (avocat) because he says the interviewer missed his profession, saying he's a good prosecutor. hahaha. Loved it.
Actually Eric I'm quite a fan of Cruise. He's a different sort of actor to The Duke but I've enjoyed his films as I still enjoy John Ford's great movies.
Mr Ford's French speaking was rather good. He was really enjoying this interview and it was good to see this. I think he liked the French. Mr Ford could be very funny too.
I think this is the only time I’ve seen and heard John Ford laugh. If people thought Katharine Hepburn was a complicated person to interview, she doesn’t have nothing on John Ford haha. He was a wonderful director. These men were truly dedicated to their art.
With all due respect! People don't realise that they both are in the mood of role play plus any question which Mr. Ford think is totally our of the box has caught his attention to answer the interviewer back! Hence the awkwardness during this interview! Mind you it's all about being unique and stumbling upon people being equally unique amongst others around!
This is not the effect of age on Ford. He had the same sense of humor as a young man. He delighted in practical jokes. He enjoyed putting people on to the point of humiliation. He defied analysis. Ford reminds me of the remark his contemporary Billy Wilder made in reference to the new wave of American directors in the late 60's and early 70's ("The guys with the beards" as he called them) those directors who took pains to explain their pictures to critics. "You don't go to an art museum and the painter stands next to his painting telling you what he was attempting to do!" That was Ford's philosophy as well, though Ford stated it in more of a delightfully vulgar way. We and the medium of picture making are lost. There are no more Fords.
What an awful interviewer. He RUINS what could have been a masterpiece. Somebody PLEASE edit the interview to excise the questions and provide them as subtitles
Interviewer is like a police interrogator. Ford is like a president in exile.

Surprised Mr Ford was in such a great mood to put up with this.
He could be cantankerous but what a wonderful director he was.
Hes true talent ..try putting tom cruise up next to john wayne ..cruise would not have made it back then...hes a pussy

"Well go and ask the indiscrete question first"
Love that he closes the interview by saying that he has to go eat dinner.

He’s my spirit animal
WHAT A STRANGE INTERVIEWER
Considering how John usually is in interviews, he seems like he kind of respects this more brash interviewer
No, he is just being French
Ford was in really good mood that day, I want to kick that interviewer so bad 😂
I think Mr Ford liked the French Jaime.
He will kick you instead you little weasel
"How long have you been a cowboy?"
"About 8 months." 💀
Fantastic. Bogdanovich would have loved it.
WHo but the great John Ford can say The Searchers is just a western !

Amusing.
the greatest
You hear about him hanging out in bed, but to see it in action is amazing.
THEE "MASTER" ALL-TIME A #1
An interview on the Bed !
Who is the interviewer and why is he shouting
I haven't seen an akward interviewer like that probably since Chris Farley played one on SNL.
The interviewer is playing one of the best performances ever of the French
Some people take the bull by the horns _John Ford shoots it.

I live in France and this is a normal conversation for French people who want to speak English. it's abysmal
He liked a smoke 🙄
Amateur interviewer, why is he shouting so much.
Ford was half-blind and deaf.
mr ford is nick fury from marvel
What an awful interviewer. He RUINS what could have been a masterpiece.

Strangely though, he seems to be in an unusually good mood here.
@@Tramseskumbanan haha very true
But Ford liked the confrontational style of it.
