Your vast knowledge on how those systems work is simply staggering. The fact you knew that someone had to actually remove the option for the computer to set that code left me gobsmacked. A mere mortal would never have figured that out. Another great video.
I envy you on how relaxed you take your diagnosis. At the dealer we don't even get a chance to diag anything properly before they have 2 more waiters stuffed behind you.
Jake thanks for sharing. Appreciate how you explain your troubleshooting and how the system works. I hate when people take shortcuts and do sloppy repairs. Damn just by a portable soldering iron and shrink rap. Nice work enjoy your weekend. Artie 👍
Great thought process, straight to the point, Jake! Many of these odd faults result from someone else's careless jobs. ECM not reporting pressure sensor connection fault didn't help either.
Nice job Jake! I sensed the obvious frustration of repairing someone's attempted hacks. I don't like touching diesels either for the same reasons. Most of the time when I open the hood, I see parts missing and connectors unplugged. I cringe. That's when you want to charge double. Engineers design these parts for a reason. Diesel's have plenty of power to begin with. Leave them alone! Thanks again for sharing your experience and time.
I don’t think it’s about power when people delete emissions. It’s all the problems they cause. I watched a video on a 2023 Ram with the Cummins that broke down with 1500 miles with emission system problems.
@@autodiagyt I dealt with the same in trucking. Unfortunately, I drove to Alaska hauling produce and lots of nights I couldn’t shut down and the emission system cost me a lot of money.
Jake, hope you didn't get too wet putting that truck back together. I really like the way you work down to the problem as well as your explanation. I put a couple of but connectors in my car and they worked fine for about a year. I believe I'll be going back in with a soldering iron because the vehicle is starting to act up again. Swallowing my pride! Thanks for Sharing!
Good one for sure. I'm wondering if there was a problem with those but connections and just handling it could have corrected the issue, well temporally anyway. love your strategy of using your scan data to prove out circuit integrity! Nice to see a diagnostics procedure without the scope. Keep up the good work Jake! Thank you for all your video content!
Great job this is the mobile diagnostic curse unfortunately, problem vehicles that eat heavily into brick and mortar shops time and money become your problem, deleted and tuned vehicles are a nightmare sometimes but you stuck to your process and got it done
Great video, I have a 2018 Sierra Denali just bought 3 weeks ago. Today it had the sudden loss of power with the Engine reduced power alert. So, I check def and it was ok. When I started back up power returned, and message is gone. I have the check engine light still on. I guess I'm off to the parts store to get a new code reader, after I check the connections. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Don’t get a parts store code reader. There is better options that are cheap. Look on my amazon store. You can get full system scans and some bidirectional controls fairly cheap
@@garymathews3903 I’m pretty positive it will. If you get it and find a data pid it doesn’t show and you know it should be there you send in a feedback ticket and they will fix it. The topscan is a base for them to gather user feedback and develop their own line of diagnostic software. They have started using it in the topdon ultradiag scan tool.
Had the same exact experience, replaced EBCM, sent new ECM for tuning, replaced lower engine wiring harness, fuse block on both sides of engine bay and it finally was good for a year. Now the problem is back. I’m gonna check that connection at the pressure sensor and see if that pigtail has a bad connection. But being the fact the truck is tuned and deleted has nothing to do with a bad connection at the fuel pressure sensor
Your right the wiring on these trucks are trash this is a very common problem according to all forums and some videos I hope u get yours figured out mine just showed the po191
@@bruceshepard1136 I replaced the sensor and the pigtail and it’s been running fine. I’d say that was it. I’m so glad this guy found this. I chased my tail for months trying to figure this out. The truck was not even drivable
I’ve ran across this issue with a tuned 2016 corvette once. I used HP tuners to go through all of the DTCs to see what all was disabled and reenabled some DTCs that shouldn’t have been turned off. Some people need to learn a little bit more about tuning before they just start disabling DTCs at random. The heat shrink butt connectors are fine when done properly but those stupid solder loaded butt connectors are trash. They don’t flow like they should and are a horribly designed product. I like to solder but I have no problems with butt connectors when used with a proper crimping tool and heat shrink.
I've worked on nothing but diesels my entire life mostly performance the 17+ duramax is a very tricky truck to delete (in Canada of course) what happened here was a sloppy lazy tuner just running through the DTC list changing shit to NER and probably happened to accidentally disable the #2 FRP sensor
Did the customer purchase the truck in this condition (deleted)? If so, why the heck didn’t he take it to get inspected…..or maybe he didn’t care it was modified? Superb job like always, Jake!
We dropped that inspection crap in Ontario Canada 3 years ago. We also dropped having to pay for stickers or tags every 2 years. We still have to go in to update and show insurance but there is no cost. It’s the very first time in Canada that the government thinks about the people.
people dont understand in the old days before electronics you could do crimp connectors. the circuit ran in amps and a small volt drop did little if anything to affect the circuits. now with electronics signal circuits are miliamps. there are still circuits you can get by with crimps but anything that goes to a computer or module NO!!!!!
Can either one of you guys do an instructional soldering video on the bench? Both of you guys are great at it. I hate soldering. I've tried numerous times, but no older tech is there to teach me. Every other tech I know uses those butt connectors.
I think somebody set to many FFFF values on the error code map table :-) 😀 it's alright to delete dtc code setting criteria in the map but do it only if its not effecting engine power 😀

This is why i love diagnostics. Its such a rewarding job. Great diag

Nice video and diagnosis. I guess knowing the systems and knowing where to look saved the day.

I have found that sometimes reduced power with no codes the codes are in permanent code list. Wont be in engine codes.

Maybe the fuel cooler I know I need to replace mine there's no codes maybe the sending unit or both.
Or just fuel lines half are bad all the way from the fuel cooler to the engine is rusted.
Great video

a pain deleted components a pain pain pain well done there
wow good one tks
Is this a 3.0 ltr or 6.6?
6.6
These things are in my shop all the time. If you are a contractor do yourself a favor get the 6.6 gas😂

Says on left side of your scanner high pressure range is 3480 psi max not 4800
Where you located
North Alabama
my 2018 it showed one time then is gone what happen there
Lots of things will cause reduced engine power message.
I have a hero truck but it was done before I bought it. So some of us can’t help that.
Exellent.
👍👍👍
Unbelievable how amateurish some "repairs" can be.

Who in the wild world of sports would want to see engine speed in DEGREES PER MINUTE. That has to be the dumbest unit I have ever seen
I have no idea but they did fix this issue really fast after i sent it to them.
That positive lug on the alternator tripped my OCD... Risky close to short!
