I had to find out about the fire truck. News reports it was en route to a call when a tree fell on it. No injuries thankfully.
That was a real eye opener. There aren't many scrapyards (Copart equivalents) here in the UK that let you walk around.
Definitely get a big bike to rebuild, that'd be cool.

A lot of people don’t know that LCI owns a ton of the aftermarket parts installed on RV’s. For a majority of the manufacturers, they use LCI trailer frames.
The fire truck had a tree fall on it during hurricane Harvey. I’m a firefighter not too far in a town from there and my buddy is a fire fighter for seguin.

American lafrance(Fire truck builder) used to build beautiful trucks back in the day. we have a few neighboring fire companys that have similar engines. they have been nothing but problems from electrical issues to rusting prematurely ect. its a shame they went out of business but the quality was just not there in the last few decades.
Plus they had under size cab lift cylinders. They tended to fold in half when raising or lowering the cab.

Totaled the restored vehicles in Texas have a resale value of one half. And the idea of mold in the walls of RVs is something that most wives would run from. Now the Jestski deal you got was sweet!

I was thinking the same, seemed like a nice little setup, just the right size for me. Too bad I'm broke as hell and don't own a truck.
Yup, had to be on the lot because I would as an owner buy it back for pennies on the dollar basically getting a free camper. Really if the business was smart they too would have done that get the check from insurance and say "how much to buy it back" and at a dealership they turn around and sell it for $4,000 less probably in a week or two. Lot's of people like me don't care about hail damage.

I bought a flood boat last year, copart had the manufacturer listed wrong, the wrong hull number (so you couldn’t look it up) but I knew what it was....there is a 14 month waiting to get a new newwater curlew and it will cost you about $60k. Mine is 3 years old and I have a whopping $10k into it and the trailer. Thanks Copart!

Fascinates me that rich people look down on people that live in mobile homes, yet act like they're hot stuff when they drive around in overpriced RVs that are built much more poorly than most mobile homes.
Or people that rent an apartment their entire life looking down on people that own 100-plus acres of land and live in a trailer on that land.
You don't need to be rich to have an RV, just need to make the monthly 30 year RV payment. Personally I can stay in a lot of $200 a night Hotels for the rest of my life in what an RV cost. So I don't get the RV'ing thing myself when you are hauling your house with you to stay in...hahahaha
@@Meekerextreme RVs are a money pit, no doubt about it. Besides buying the thing just like anything you've got to maintain them. I've inherited a 1986 Class C from my parents and it costs me a lot of coin. Motorhomes with engines and transmissions just like any normal car. Insurance and potentially storage fees when you aren't using it. Then there is fuel, of course. I
Plus it's not like camping is free. Oh sure you might get away with some Wall-Mart camping or staying a night or two in a rest stop. But for places that are actually fun to camp you're looking at least 20 bucks a night.
However there are things I really like about having a motor home. I find my motor home much more comfy than hotel room, I can bring my pets along without issue, and I don't have to unpack in my hotel room and then repack to just to go home. And as a nice little bonus it's a great place to let the guests spend the night so they have a proper bed and some privacy.
The newer RV's are complete trash. I have seen them where panels fall apart and staples rip out of the panels and the arms fall off the couchs. Its sad knowing these people buy an RV and find the sub frame is cracked or the cabover bed is not supported by anything but wood. I saw where a guy had to strip his front out and have a metal frame made on a two year old Class A because the cabover started leaking because it was falling apart already. Its just criminal how they are built now days.

12:46 *DECOMPOSITION??* If it smelled that bad before walking to the RV, then opening the door you immediately run....it's probably decomp, especially after seeing that stain on the ground. If you ever smell decomp, you will NEVER forget it, honestly.

Just to let you know The last Unit you were looking at all the Mesa Metal has to be ordered and shipped from the factory and sometimes it is hard to get and the cost of the metal over exceeds the cost of the trailer which those aren’t too expensive anyways and that almost always totals any of those our customers bring in for repair. If you didn’t mind hail it would be a great unit if you could snag it.

I used to haul copart heavy to the port of Baltimore. Lots of Jeep and rvs gets shipped to the UAE. old Mack trucks go to Nigeria. Heavy pays way better than cars because of the height
Older the camper the better they are to work on the cheaper to fix... the newer ones have way to much electrical that can go wrong.

That bus conversion looks like a GM PD-4106. Shame she's rotting away there, looks like somebody started to refurb it but ran out of money. Dat shag tho... Can't find it on their website, which location is this, and any chance you got the lot number?

Surely for the cost to build a fire truck, it would be worth either the insurance company or the government spending the money to fix the cab. It looked pretty salvageable from where I’m sitting.

go to a copart location and they can set you up with a broker

burnt down 5th wheels make OK flatbeds
It cost me more to take all the scrap to the dump after i was done tearing it down to the frame then when i bought the totaled 5th wheel.
