It does not look like you can use the bow drill divot with the knife in the sheath. Dangerous at best to use a knife for a bow drill without the blade being covered. Love your videos
If that is a concern just pull the knife out of the sheath far enough to access the bow drill divot. Or even move it to the end hole in the handle. The other side is a flathead screw.
Well here we have it! So many people talked trash about the MSK-1 and by association, David himself. Yeah the knife was pricey, but it's a very specialized tool. Here we have the fruits of his efforts once again in response to many folks out there. I dont know David personally, but he clearly gives a damn, and I'm excited to get one of these in my hands. Thank you David. Thank you Brian.
A cool trick I saw on another video for turning the screws on the handle to access the survival kit is to use the lanyard hole to make a paracord lanyard with a standard washer on it. That way you will always have a way to turn the flathead screws that is semi-permanently attached to the knife, in case you dont have coin or screwdriver on you.
I love the primitive version. It batons cuts wood better than chopping wood. Beaver cut batoning. Thick and durable. I prefer the leather sheath. I prefer the wood scales. I prefer the 1070 steel. Thanks David for the Primitive version. Thanks Brian for showing it off.

I have to say the primative MSK1 IMO is the better of the 2 blades simoly because of the 1075 vs the D2. !075 is so much tougher and easier to sharpen in the field that it makes the original obselete.
I have one i bought at the Red Hill cutlery store in Kentucky a couple of years ago,it was part of someones collection. I paid $10 for it its awesome i love it
Hello Brian, I personally like the leather sheath better and the "Primitive" does everything the other will do. Also $300 plus is certainly out of my financial range, but could save for the $150 model. Thanks for another fun video and thank David for making this knife available to more folks.
Great overview. I assume the Primitive is being produced by Condor Knives in El Salvador, based on the steel and quality leather sheath. I've owned a number of Condor knives and for the cost, they are hard to beat. Thanks
Manufactured in El Salvador with 1075? I'm guessing it was made by Condor. That's still a terribly high price for what you're getting - not USA-made, non-stabilized wood scales (made from the palettes the 1075 was delivered on?), *crappy* steel for a knife that small and expensive, and that doesn't even address the compromised utility of the pattern itself. The list of $100 knives that are superior in every way to *any* version of the MSK1 is practically endless. It's not even competitive when compared with other Condor knives in the same price range. If it was a Condor catalog product, it would probably have a MAP of $60-70.
@@hp2114b I agree. Tops black rhino is made from 1095 steel, 1/4", with g10 scales, kydex sheath, on blade hq for the exact same price. Great review of the knife Bryan! Nice, complete concept, looks well-built & the price now makes it way more attractive. Just read an article last week about an “experienced hiker” that got lost in CA - slept in the cold in shorts & a hoodie w/ his pack - and all I could think was why no emergency blanket, or xtra water, survival knife w/ ability to make fire?? A tool/kit like this would have made his lost & SAR experience better for all involved.
In my experience, a lot of "backpackers" don't carry stuff like that, especially on a day hike. Evenb though a very high percentage of "survival situations" start on day hikes.

Made in the USA, monstrously thick (virtually indestructible) slab of differentially heat treated 1075 with a very nice kydex sheath. & it's an absolute BEAST of a knife, chopping & splitting are very impressive (heavy knife at over a pound though) The D2 version of the MSK is ridiculously expensive (D2 is a dirt cheap steel) my survive knives GSO 6 in CPM-3V was cheaper. The survival kit in the handle is cool in theory but gimmicky in practice. All well & good accessing & trying to use the tiny kit in perfect conditions. However in a genuine survival situation It would be rather difficult to get at it, fiddly & awkward to use the tiny pieces, especially if you've got cold hands. Better off just having a kit in your pocket.....

Truthfully, I think you’d be hard pressed to find any real world situations like this where you would have “only a knife.” Regardless of what Dave Canterbury and Tom Brown say. It’s really a “game show,” reality tv scenario that I wish we would all quit talking about. We’ve got bigger, more likely things to worry about in life.

I love my MSK-Elite! Was thinking about getting a Primitive just for that price point. Thanks for going through the survival pack in the handle. I think that part is largely overlooked by a lot of people.
David could’ve avoided a lot of the controversy if he would’ve introduced this model first then the premium version later . It also didn’t help that he overhyped the product like a used car salesman. Watching his original video reminded me of the flex seal commercials.
I thought his promo was excellent. I wish I had the tech skills to make videos with that Level of production. And I think if you are not willing to aggressively promote your own products it might mean you don’t really believe in them.
I don’t mind paying for quality but the quality of materials for either version doesn’t quite match up to its price point. You can get Condor made knives in 1075 well under $100 all day long. I prefer sticking with USA made ESEE and Tops brands.
That knife looks nice and must be built perfectly, but I would not pay over $150.00 dollars for a knife like the one made in the U.S., which cost over 300.00 dollars.
I don't see anything that my Swamprat rodent 7 can't do and do better. Especially the chopping, the rodent range has a big handle you can choke right back on to really get some swing.

What do you think of the kubey ku240 not many vids out about it,
I never heard of it.
where to buy MSK-1 Primitive Survival in europe?
You should go directly to their website and ask. The link is in the description.
Remove the jimping and id buy one. Thanks Brian.
1075 mods very easy on a belt sander..
Looks like the Habilis bush knife !
A little
Good one and shouldn't be more than 150$ either way.
Some refferal sharpness test should be on the begining of the video and in the end
And I think if you are not willing to aggressively promote your own products it might mean you don’t really believe in them.
very nice video.
Thanks for the visit
$300 for D2 is insane. For that price it should at least be 3V. $150 isn’t bad but should have D2.
I still prefer the tops tahoma field knife and the tops kukuri
I like all 3
Miss the Chuck Norris facts
I ran out.
I don’t mind paying for quality but the quality of materials for either version doesn’t quite match up to its price point. You can get Condor made knives in 1075 well under $100 all day long. I prefer sticking with USA made ESEE and Tops brands.
Different strokes.
Condor must make the MSK 1
Survival gear in the handle, just remember to have a screwdriver in your pucket to get to it.
Or a coin, or a key, or anything else it’ll fit in that slot. Life is full of challenges and compromises
That knife looks nice and must be built perfectly, but I would not pay over $150.00 dollars for a knife like the one made in the U.S., which cost over 300.00 dollars.
My Ka-Bar Warthog makes more sense to me or BK2 Companion.
I don't see anything that my Swamprat rodent 7 can't do and do better. Especially the chopping, the rodent range has a big handle you can choke right back on to really get some swing.
