FINALLY. Vindication/validation. I have been told I'm making it up, lost relationships and banned from my local hospital. THIS is unbelievable .. even I was convinced I was imagining things. Something MUST be done.. this HAS TO STOP. Thank you. thank you, thank you.👍
No, you're not imagining things... they will try to gaslight you over and over again. I have memory loss/brain damage from an extremely high dose of gabapentin and other psych drugs, docs blamed it all on my depression causing it...
Medical gaslighting is the standard, as Psychiatry isn't evidence-based - at least not yet still. Even when I've used phrases like: "it feels like my brain, nervous system, gastrointestinal system, endocrine system, etc is being given something it doesn't require to be well", they get coy and their body language changes. Or when you mention W/D, they get very flustered and maybe antagonistic. But their body language most-definitely changes. It's ironic that some psychi med school students/Psychiatrists/Doctors on rotation/in the office have iatrogenic injuries while they're on their shift. Or they're in acute W/D or protracted W/D syndrome while they're on their shift. Dr Mark Horowitz talks about this. And a lot of GP's/Neurologists/Psychi-related specialists have never been on these Pharmaceuticals or experienced the W/D from them. It needs to be mandatory, so they medical gaslighting goes away. A lot of my anger went away once I realized that how could they know if they've never experienced it? It's still extremely extremely unethical and can quite frankly be lethal, if you don't believe your clients.

Amazingly inspiring talk. I painted a grim picture of psychiatry as a med student, but these talks encourage me to become the psychiatrist the patients deserve. Kudos!
It's Maddening in America that doctors generally don't much know about medication effects or cessation or even what they do and dismissing you when you say there's a problem with the meds.
It's not just America, in Ireland and the UK the standard is to put people on SSRIs and talk them out of coming off no matter how bad the side effects are. They have no idea what they are doing
They don't get education in university. SSRI withdrawal? Doctors are not supposed to know about it, only to keep patients on these drugs. A patient cured is a patient lost. It's only about money.

Thank you so much for this amazing presentation!! I think it is incumbent upon all of us who are psychiatric drugs survivors somehow keep fighting to inform the medical community about the real dangers of these drugs. With proper information and research studies to backup claims I think progress can be made. I'm not saying it will be easy though. But if not us, then who??
I only recently found out about pharmacogenetics. I tried vairous SSRI at increasing doses (up to 40mg) in my younger years, for two decades. Only this year did I get a simple lab that tells me my genetics make me metabolize those drugs inefficiently and with toxic side effects the higher the dose. They were havoc on my liver but we didn't know, nobody checked. they just kept raising doses. Do they not screen clinical trial participants for genetic variation like this??? I feel super cheated like my 20s and 30s were just lost.
Same fricken thing happened to me. Except I caught on part way thru my 20s. I was started on all meds at 14. But I was put on SSRIs at 17. I’m 25 now I feel like I’ve woken up from an 8 year coma. All my friends graduated college. And I’m still only a few credits in. I’m getting my life back now tho; I am healing and have actually managed to get healthier than I ever was before. I view myself as a 14, 17, and 25 year old all in one body. So although I’ve lost so much time, mentally I still feel like a teenager and still have that spark and motivation to pick up where I left off at 14-17.

I'm so sorry for your experience...When I was going through the utter nightmare of withdrawal from paxil, out of desperation, I went to see a psychiatrist. She spent the whole time trying to pathologize me (I'm sure to find another drug to give me as this is most likely all she knew how to do) rather than listen to what I knew was actually happening to me. She tried to convince me that about 20% of people have broken brains and need drugs to live normal lives. I looked her in the eye and said, "Well that's not me." She did write me a script for some sort of drug which I threw into the trash as soon as I got home. Thank God I didn't trust her or take her meds. I'm sorry but most psychiatrists are clueless and actually may be more dangerous than GPs because they think they know psych meds and aren't afraid to prescribe them...this could land you on a merry go round of psych drugs and mental health issues... Keep on keeping on! You will pull through.
Even after 3 years off escitalopram, my ocd is like on steroids. Hopefully there will be more recovery as the time passes by. Great webinar, thank you.
Thank you so much. Such a lot of information (which is a good thing). I had already discovered that doxycycline is a seriously bad antibiotic for me and ibuprofen is a no-no. I will now check carefully and use a lot of caution with any antibiotic or antihistamine!
I have a problem with all anticholinergics (anti-nausea, anti-spasmodics, anti-muscaranics, antihistamines). Also muscle relaxants, ibuprofen, diclofenac. Most supplements and a host of food and chemical insensitivities. I did not have these problems prior to psych drugs.
I can guarantee that it's related. Our homo sapien bodies have not evolved alongside these Pharmaceuticals for very long. These Pharmaceuticals are incredibly damaging on our bodies.
Very IMPORTANT info! I was tapered off Zoloft too fast by Dr. 17 year use (physical dependence, didn't need it). Sick housebound and disabled 1 year off.

When you showed that taking ssris over 20 mg doesn't really provide any additional benefits that makes complete sense. When you're on those really high doses reducing down to 20 mg doesn't really make a difference. You don't start getting the bad withdrawal until you go under 20 mg.

They have the same dangers. They mess serotonin system AND norepinephrine system. Only serotonin controls 3000 mechanisms on the body.
