Nice review. I just bought one, first edition in black. The pinstripes and chrome got me. Style of a Harley with BMW quality, safety and tech thrown in. What's not to love. It's a beautiful machine.
Black-I just order a 2022 BR18B with all options and got it for $16,300 after BMW cash, 4paymenta by BMW. Heck of a value for this bike. Moving from a Harley Davidson Road King. Much better value than HD or Indian.
I really enjoy your pace. Lots of very useful information in a timey matter without giving so much personal preference/opinion that it tries to sway someone else. Compliments on the great job! Keep up the good work.
Went from a 2019 HD RGU to the Transcontinental. Active Cruise is a really nice feature when riding long distances. BMW has similar power to the stock RGU, but handles better. Reverse is a great feature when needed. Sound system on the BMW is better than my Stage 2 Boom system on the RGU. Had to get used to the mid controls and seating position. Prefer the Harley here. TFT and tech are far superior to the RGU. Comparably, the BMW has very few options/upgrades compared to Harley and far fewer dealerships. Transcontinental costs less for a similarly equipped bike compared to the Harley RGU but has better fit and finish and warranty. Still love HD and also own a Pan America, but wouldn't go back to an HD touring bike.
@@craiggoldstein2461 In Roll mode mild side to side vibration on start up and quickly dissipates as you gain speed. In Rock mode stronger shudder until about 2000 rpm and then the R18TC hits it’s sweet spot and has a very smooth highway feel. Some vibration if you’re rapidly accelerating above 3K rpm but not disconcerting. Some vibration at idle in all modes. My 2019 RGU had a stage four and I would say vibration was mild across all rpm bands-less than the BMW , but the beemer has no vibration at highway speeds in 6th gear at 2500 rpm
I was able to demo an R-18 & R-Transcontinental this past Fall and I've consumed alotta the press & RUclips video reviews. You are spot on with your synopsis. Good that you noted how that there are many more H-D dealers which may in turn translate into better dealer support. Plus the Motor Company service techs may be more familiar with the tried & true V-twin platform as opposed to a Beamer dealer's tech has much less history with the R-18 platform. No doubt that BMW has gone the extra mile with fit & finish crafting this, their heritage model, by hiding the wires & cables making the R-18 seem like a timepiece. But I would not,per se, equate this with quality control. Rather a case of one-up-manship. Harley has come a long way with their engineering as well as quality control. While you being an H-D owner may know differently, I can't imagine that even the "faithful" would shell out boatloads of money for a Harley if Milwaukee didn't make boatloads of improvements with build quality. Thanks for posting your thoughtful remarks and keep enjoying your Teutonic Steed!
I love the active cruise control for short rides and long ones. It works really well. I used it when riding the bike from Columbus Oh, and back to Michigan.
Great review. Went to see one but it wasn't for me. I've always had harleys but the r1250rt caught my eye and ended up getting one. The tft display and bmw map app which is the same as the r18 work great. You can import Google routes and easy to use.
Just traded my 14 HD Ultra Classic Ltd in on a Trans con in the Galaxy color. I,ve had it for one week and cant say at this time if I like it better than my Harley but I do love having reverse.
What color did you like the best?
I like the Black Final Edition with the pinstripes. That Galaxy color is beautiful but too funky for me
I would have to see them on the floor first , sorry
Galaxy Dust all the way.
Galaxy Dust!
The Black with the classic white pin stripes just goes so well with all that chrome!
I went from a harley electra glide to a R18 transcontinental first addition. it is an amazing bike. the active cruise control awesome.
Congrats and thanks for the feedback on ACC

A beautiful and magnificent piece of machinery . Very under rated and definitely under appreciated

I got to Ride one this year and definitely likes it over the Indian

I liked it enough to purchase a first edition naked version. It's a fascinating bike. Eric
Nice information on the beautiful Motorsickle 😍

Kelly, can you characterize the engine vibrations on the R18 Vs the harley?

Can I ask you how do you import google route to the BMW app? Thx
ACC is one of the best feature I like in my R18 Transconti.
Galaxy they are sweet!!!
definitely my favorite paint option on this Bike.

I don’t even like active cruise control in my cars. Generally, if I catch up with someone…they are not going fast enough. 😆
Yeah I don't think I would use it...I am never accused of going to fast :)
I just demo’d one. I may have bought it…can’t say as I have a contest on my channel tonight to guess 😜
I will watch for the video
@@NewBikeMikeChannel filming now and will premiere tonight at 8 for the reveal
My eye likes that bike.
The Blue/Silver is awesome but for $2500 more? I'll take black thank you!
Too bad no auto-transmission as an option like the Honda Goldwing!
Honda is the only one really pushing DCT
This bike is going to be expensive if you select all the available options , it’s not the bike for me
I would like to ride one but GPS/Phone thing makes the display worthless... Specs are not bad but again they are crank not rear wheel...
