another Interesting video. Thanks. I'm really stugglingvto find a good balance of sub settings. It would really help me to see what your histogram looks like for these subs

Thanks Lee, I’ll try and some in the future, that is a great way to dial in sub exposure time to make sure you’re not clipping.

Nice experiment Joe. Sort of thing I often try out myself. Where I live in the UK I have Bortle 6 skies and tend to stick with either 10m or 5m exp like yourself. What Bortle are you in?

Thanks Astrobloke, I’m very lucky to live under between a Bortle Class 2 to 3 dark sky. For my camera, in order to swamp the read noise on my sensor, I should be taking 28 minute exp, but I just don’t find that practical.

@@JoesAstrophoto Yes thats a long time for something to happen and ruin the whole sub. I would think at my light pollution levels 10min would be the max anyways. Keep up the great work

Great examples Joe. Your tracking looks to be spot on!!! I have been using 5mn subs with some success and have experimented with 6 & 7 mn but I am afraid to go with the 600 sec sub due to elongated eggs shape stars and photo bombers such as airplanes and satellite. How did you polar align your rig?

Thanks Pat, oddly enough my 600 sec sub came out better than my 300 sec. I have a video on how I polar align ruclips.net/video/f0a0cL0U2KE/видео.html I use a Polemaster because it can get very precise, but takes me while to do it. Luckily I don’t have to do it that often. It also saves my back from having to bend over at the awkward angle when using the built in polar scope.

@@JoesAstrophoto ... I have the same Pole Master. Yup, I need to re-polar align. It's been about 3 months, plus I am on a tripod. A pier is in my future. And, that knob adjustment is not just on your mount, mine does the same thing ... Celestron CGX and CGEM... a big jump just when you don't expect it.

Really helpful video, thanks! But I'm not guided, and can't go more than 10s each sub.🙁

Thanks for watching and commenting, what kind of mount or tracker are you using?
