My grandfather in a village in Romania also had a dog very similar to your Zora. He called his dog Dundi but then he called all his dogs Dundi lol. But I remember just how amazing that dog was...it was so happy and seemed so healthy. Dundi would always run who knows where and how far but when I called his name, he would be back in a flash and come running with his big smile and be all over me. No dogs I've seen since anywhere in the world have compared to Dundi and I think it's because he was so mixed, so well rounded and healthy.
I agree x
Your Zora is a little character. What a cutie pie she is laying there with her mom. You could see she was trying to get your attention. Such a sweet puppy. Love your channel Anneka. Thank you for the work you do.
Thankyou for your lovely comments Dianne x
It's more than deserved. Take care and hugs to all your furbabies. xx
Your videos have inspired me to volunteer at the dog shelter! I’ve completed 10 hours and love it!
Dog Lover Good for you!
I don't think I could handle it...
I would have to leave them there at the end of my shift and it would just be too painful... If it was up to me I would just bring all of them home with me and I understand that's not possible... 🙁
I’m with Sabrina - good for you and bless your heart.
I came out of the pound in tears after looking for a rescue, it broke me seeing all of those pups in need.
Give your charges a love from me and keep up the good work. 👏🏼❤️🐺
Yeah I've done that before. Fun times. You get to be completely surrounded by doggos everyday or so. And cats. 🐱🐶🐺
Hi everyone, hope you like this upload on testing my mixed breed rescue from Romania Zora's DNA. I tsted it with 2 companies to see if they came up with the same results - let me know what you think about dog DNA companies from your experience? There are 2 other DNA videos also on this channel - Czechoslovakian wolfdog test and a Tamaskan test - you can find these films on my channel front page by scrolling through the videos. Hope you enjoy the upload. Anneka x
I love how your dog just layed there on her back lol!!! She is really cute and thank you for making this video!!
My 1st dog was a super mix off the street or archaeological park in Sicily as the case may be. He was the absolute best 1st dog anyone could ask for; smart, inquisitive, quiet , eager, affectionate, presocialized. Pulse he made the best running partner I will ever have. He looked like Zora but yellow. He would point sometimes like a gun dog.
paxwallacejazz my first dog is a rescue puppy and he is very sweet. (Yes he is still alive). He is a little chubby, but also really strong and muscular. (No joke he pulled my down a hill by my hand and it hurt). He’s not too terribly dumb, but not the smartest dog either. I love him and he is really sweet but LOVES ALL FOOD. He got one piece of bacon and was foaming at the mouth today. His rescue sister is a German Shepherd pointer mix, and he is a boxer mix. She’s smarter and skinnier than him. She’s also faster. They are the best, and have sad back stories that I will share, but still very loving.
Rocco (1st) : he isn’t too much of a rescue dog, but still. He came to the rescue group we adopted from ( they foster the dogs not put in the shelter). A relative of one of the group workers had a dog with puppies. Nobody wanted Rocco, so they gave him to the rescue group. When we got to the place, they had hound puppies (about ten weeks old) and everyone wanted those puppies, not Rocco. So we adopted him and now he lives happily and fat with us. 😏
Ruby : She as far as we know was in a shelter her whole life before we got her. We have a picture of her as a tiny little pupper in a shelter cage. She was obviously a runt, and only had two other sisters. She was malnourished and tiny. When the same rescue group got her and was fostering her, she was treated as omega of the pack due to being new and tiny. When we got her one sister had already been adopted, and there was another person lined up to adopt either her or her sister (whichever we didn’t adopt.) when we took Rocco to meet her the next day, she climbed out of the fence and came to us. She seemed friendly with Rocco, and we adopted her. When we got her home Rocco let her eat out of his bowl and cleaned her and was very sweet. She was still skittish and obviously scared of any loud noise. She even found out how to open a door during a thunderstorm. After having her for three and a half years, she started to let her personality loose. Now she’s a sweet happy dog, who doesn’t listen very well, but is very lived and loves stealing Rocco’s attention.
So yeah. RESCUE OR ELSE...
Rocco is fat-over 100 pounds.
(Just cuz I said he was fat multiple times)
We got a rescue dog from Romania 2 years ago , she's all white ,with a long curly tail and floppy ears and she's very big. They told us she was a lab mix but we did a DNA test and she's a mix with mostly german shepherd , saluki and australian sheepdog, nothing of labrador in her . but that ok she's our big girl ( 40 kg) and we love her. ( we got her as a pup and had no idea she was gonna grow so big )
I adopted a dog from Sochi, Russia and used Wisdom Panel on her, I guessed she was an Anatolian Shepard/ Greyhound mix. I got back equal parts White Swiss Shepard, German Shepard, Korean Jindo, And Chihuahua from a british show line. And 50% unknown mixed breed. She looks very much like a Jindo, and really acts like one too. She's the best dog I could have asked for :)
Zora is a super chill dog! Just beautiful!
Your girl is adorable❤️! I love this! I had my yella dog’s Wisdom Panel done & wondered if I had chosen the best test. I was shocked/not shocked by the results because it proved that my perfect “Mini Appalachian Dingo” is exactly a 1:1M mix of beagle, chihuahua, chow, collie & shepherd just like you’d expect to find on the side of a country road in Virginia USA. It also tells me that the chance of ever finding another little dingo is so low. I did get a health report with her test too & she did not show any inherited conditions & so far does not have any at age 16.5 years. I’m glad I choose WP because she is definitely a village dog or as we affectionately know them here, a Mutt. ❤️
I plan to order the Embark test kit for Amber, my GSD-mix. I believe she may have Malinois and something else in her background, but you have convinced me to try the Wisdom kit as well.
You look great BTW.
Love you, Anneka!
Lupus ad Dei sooo what where the results?!
Zora is so relaxed. Amazing. It relaxes me just watching her so trusting you like she is a human baby
What an absolutely gorgeous doggo you have! What a sweet personality.
I love the music at the into of the video!!! First impression of marimba with some kind of native drums. Wish more youtubers had music like THIS!
Rescues are the greatest! Mongrels should not be derogatory. They live healthier and longer lives. They make the greatest companions and friends!
I've been nagging my husband for a couple years to sequence our two dogs & I think this would be a great way to teach students DNA sequencing. He protested "But how will design the primers?" I replied, "It's already happening in in the U.K!" As more people purchase DNA analysis the price will come down & we can reasonably anticipate greatly reducing the incidence of such heartbreakers as hip displasia.
Her dogs are so patient and I'm amazed they don't get upset or squirmy when she swabs them. Just shows how much they love and trust her. It's really nice to see. :) Also Zora snuggling her head next to her lap when she was reading the initial results warmed my heart.
Thank you Anneka for the video. My Baloo came from Romania too, but he's a LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog). It look likes a mix Akbash/ASD or some rare indigenous CAS, 74 cm high and weighing 50 kgs. Greeting's from Bavaria!
I love this DNA analysis videos! If I had a dog, I think that I would choose Embark because it would be very important to me to know if there was a risk factor for a disease... better to know in advance and talk to the vet, you know?
Anyway, both Zora and Kumi are absolutely adorable❤
Shes a beautiful cute dog.
Thats good to know, Thanks.👍
Very informative I greatly appreciate that keep up the good work as always beautiful
Oh,dear, dear Anneka! I wish I had the information, knowledge You have now.
Our beloved Dog,a DSD foundling, was our family member for TEN years, and many people, even close family-, friends, used to tease us,She wasn't a GSD.
It hurt because ,even if our vet considered her A GSD, according to her Behavior, not only the looks,I truly wish we could have had that test.
Aww, Zora loves you so much Anneka :) Great video, thanks. Think I'll get the wisdom panel test for my ex Spanish street dog. He's mostly GSD but I'd love to know what the other 30% or so is...
Your pup looks so happy and content laying on its back, so cuteee 😍
My family dog is a rescue from the States. We have absolutely no idea what he is but hes the most gentle, kind, and smart dog. He almost looks like a shepherd and great dane mix. I thought about getting one of these tests for him just so we have somewhat of a answer for when people ask "what is he? " We usually just say dog. But, its nice to see your view on each of these companies. Thank you
I always look forward to your videos. I will be purchasing one of those shirts with my next paycheck. Thanks Anneka!
I got curious after seeing your DNA reveal videos and ran an Embark test on my Amstaff mix. I'll share the results when I get them :-)
Tis has been a year and i am curious, what may be the results?
My favorite part of your videos, is watching how much the dogs and wolves always love you, and want to be as close to you as possible....❤
Very well explained. I have Border Collies but the health side of things with Embark would be great : ) Gosh it is quite expensive isn't it. I'd love to do it but can't afford it :( Thanks Anneka .
So very interesting. I think I might do DNA tests on my Pugs. We think that they have 100% of pug DNA but still.
The more grown my dog has become, the more confused I have become. I do know that his mother was a red heeler (possibly mixed as well) rescued from a New Mexico shelter. I assumed that he shared the same father as one of his brothers that looked identical in form to a corgi. There's only one (and by one, I mean several) issue, he is VERY long limbed, with very large teeth for his skull size. He also has a characteristic dark saddle that continues down the spine and gets darker at the base of the tail. He walks like a coyote, with his tail pointed down, also prances and pounces when he plays, and can outrun practically everything else at the dog park. That being said, he is highly gregarious, and greets all people, and all dogs. When I can SWAB the money together, I'll have to invest in one of these.
How's your doggo? What were the results... Asking for science.
Results?
Hi I just recently found your channel and I love it thank you for all your time and your patience and doing everything to help and rescue animals God bless you and the channel and I will be subscribed the whole time that you're here God bless..
Something really sketchy about Wisdom Panel I just realized... I DNA tested my mix breed and he came back with the same ratio of breeds (62.5, 25 and 12.5). Now that doesn’t seem like a coincidence, seems like they have some sort of default.
The default is 1/4 and 1/8. So they estimate that a dog has one grandparent (25%) or one great grandparent (12.5%) of a given breed
Or 50+12.5 for instance, which could be one parent (50%) plus one great grandparent on the other side
I have a dog I wanna do this to. He was rescued as a red merle "Australian Shepherd mix" but I think he has more border collie than Australian Shepherd in him based on stature and mannerisms. Due to how many people push Embark I was going to save up to go with Embark, but now you are making me think I should for now go with Wisdom Panel instead. I might do an Embark test later on to find out if he is prone to any health conditions.
I love all dogs mutts or pure bred dosent matter I love them all.
That dog is very cute 💗💗💗
wonderful video she is absolutely beautiful
I'll give you one good reason why I this is exciting video Just Because of You Ma'am your British and I love your kind from your accents to some of y'all's personalities I just hope one day I find myself having a British friend. Also another good video.
You could tell right away, Your dog has smart, focused, those suuper aristocratic eyes of a German Shepherd and nose. She's got a German Shepherd, Shepherish phenotype
Very interesting video!
This one was the most interesting to me since I'm Greek and I've spend a lot of time with stay mixed dogs like your beautiful girl. I also owned a good number of them to help with the stray population.
In regards to that issue, I thought it was interesting to note the health benefits of mixed dogs. They are usually extremely smart and strong thanks to their mixed heritage. Not to mention super devoted if you rescue them from the street.
So I really recommend these types of doggos. They are a special breed to me.
I was close in guessing! I thought she'd be a Malinois x Rottweiler x mix mix (uh I lost track too).
What I really like about Embark is that they do a health scan too. I wish I could afford to test my dog but I can't. She's already on medication though, I know she has arthritis. But I am soooo curious to know if her previous owners were told the truth about her history! It's a pretty neat mix right, West Siberian Laika x Rottweiler. Ha. Yeah sounds exactly how she is ;) ❤❤ Love her to bits!!
Whenever I have more space and can afford it, I'll have a pack of my beloved fur friends like you have, that's like my dream life :D
Lots of love,
Sanne & Brody
ha ha thankyou for having a guess too. Your dog sounds super cute and yes for sure, a house full of dogs is a house full of love x
My rescue here in Michigan is identical to your Zora
She is cute! and awesome Name.. :)
Thank you very much for helping all for always helping all these innocent animals, and never give up on them, God bless you all. Jesus Christ loves you and he want to become your only savior of your soul !😍😘😘😘😘😚
Monica Molina God bless you too Monica 😊
Thanks for the video...you youtube channel shows that you've sacrificed a lot of your time & money to animals. Appreciate your dedication.
Why didn't you mention that the stuff you got back from Embark showed .6% wolfishness?
Recently I adopted a 2 year old very small female that was being used for breeding! The dog is a mutt......but a beautiful one and my vet said that people don't breed ugly dogs. We did have her spayed and received all her vaccines she needed! I am definitely having her DNA done ! We do love our new family member! Lost two dogs were 100 % Schipperke and both died at 12 with congestive heart failure! Miss them both! So we adopted a doggie in need to fill our heats again!
I know this is an older video but my dog Bailey-Blue looks just like your Zora. I received an Embark test for the holidays and sent it off. Still waiting for the results and excited to see what her mix comes back as.
How much did these two DNA packages cost together?
I have a mixed dog, named Biggles, originally an incredibly abused stray from Bulgaria (He came to me with tons of scars on his muzzle and face, wounded and fully blind eyes, it’s clear that the blinding was caused by humans hitting him either with wooden/metal poles or with their shoes, and he could barely sit down ;v;), and I would very much love to see if he has any fresh traces of dog breeds in him, or is just simply a mixed breed. I’ve never before done a DNA test on my dog/s before, and I also have no idea how diluted the breeds are in him, but, like I said, I’d _love_ to know if my suspicions of him having some sort of Hound/Sporting Dog in him.
Thank you! xx
when i frist saw her i was thinking "Gsd"
YES
Hi Anneka!
Most fascinating, and interesting video😊👍👍👍
I've got a rather 'older Goldie', who's also named Zora😊 (adopted from my daughter in law, 12 years ago)
Why did you name your wonderful dog Zora?
All love, and best wishes, Claire, Sally, and Zora, Berlin 😘 ✌
Hi Claire - that was her Romanian name she came with when she was found by the Romanian rescuer
We tested our rescue dog with two different companies, both had different percentages. One said she was Australian cattle dog bull dog mix, the other said Australian cattle dog as well, but specified that she was actually a Pitbull as well, not just a bulldog. It was around 50 50 for both tests.
I do believe you can ask embark for more % breakdown on breeds. A friend of ours got back "wolfdog" without percentage specifics and stuff and contacted them asking for more details and she got a whole list like wisdom panel does.
My dog Turbo was Embarked recently. He is 6 different breeds and has traces of two other breeds. I thought he was a 50/50 malinois husky mix. Husky and Malinois are the dominant breeds in his DNA.
Entlebucher hound is a sort of a short haired version of the Bernese mountain dog. So a working cattle dog from switzerland
Matter of interest, do they ask for a photo to be sent? I remember Watchdog did a feature on pet DNA companies and photos were asked and even when they sent a swab from a human the company still said the dog was set breeds, which were easy to tell just from looking. That feature put me off from doing it to any of my dogs, but now I have a Romanian rescue myself I've started wondering about it but am dubious after what I saw and have read. I know there's whippet in her but I am really interested in finding out about what else is in her!! Are both of these companies reliable in that they don't do anything like that?? Your dog, sorry I don't know how to spell her name, looks wonderfully natured and is very beautiful!
Gorgeous Anne 😍😍🐺
Soooo beautiful! She is gorgeous. I find it so funny that your dogs do not care at all about the swap in their mouth.
Wisdom Panel definitely does a health check, it’s just an option you can pay extra for. Embark also costs a lot more than Wisdom Panel, so more people are going to go with the cheaper option.
What a character I know what kind she is ........a love
Great vid as always anneka ❤
Loved the video Anneka n your dog too
My guess before the results:
German Shepherd(or similar breed) Sheltie, Aus. Heeler, rat terrier (or similar breed)
...maybe a whippet or greyhound too
I have a rescue dog from Romania called Roman so I’ve ordered a kit. Can’t wait to find out what his breed is, he looks similar to your pup. He looks like a lurcher mixed with a plot hound, so I can’t wait to find out what he really is 💕
Earlier I smoked some weed and started watching this video, and I glanced away for a sec, then glanced back and thought your dog was a daschund! Then I was like “I’m seeing things he was big before,” so I felt very validated when you said he was indeed part daschund 😁 (just squint when he’s got his legs tucked under at around 2:30)
I have that kind of dog, shes from poland and nobody knows who the dad was, shes not a rescue dog, but she was free, and since it was in the countryside, she couldve ended up chained to a dog house outside, but then again it couldve just ended up not being allowed inside, those two options are really common in the polish countryside
How has Zora been received by your Czech wolf-dogs?
I found this very interesting and informative, I have been tempted to do a DNA test on my dog Pippin to see what breeds are in her DNA, now not only am I fully convinced about going for it, you have also pointed me to the company to go for, so love your videos so very useful, thank you very much.
Our dog Yuki, looks like the identical twin of Zora. We found her at a shelter.
I think i may get one for my sister for her dog that was found by a dumpster as a puppy. We think he is a cairn terrier mixed with a Italian grey hound
Cool
All of your dogs are so sweet!😍😍 My dog acts the same a kumi and kyoshi!
So the dog is from my country Romania, this is intresting. Also the dog is sweet and cute.💕
Just to be clear, we dont have any stray dogs in the streets of Cyprus. And I mean zero. Cats however can be found absolutely everywhere.
Rescue Dog DNA is very interesting but so is bright blonde hair!
Very interesting. Could you kindly tell me how much this costs- I have a stray and would like a test done on her. Thanks so much for the video...
I guessed part GSD, I was right! Zora has the same look as my GSD girls.
Your dog is so cute 💝💝💝💝💝
In the carribean they call them potcake dogs which I think is so cute
Really cool channel, always liked you Anneka
2nd awesome video!! Dna test hmm is there a wolf dog that is 100% wolf? Answer if you know
Samuel A No, you would call that a wolf, not a wolf-dog
_ AmazingWolfGirl _ thought so.... or in a way i knew it. Because wolfdogs are dogs that have wolf dna in them. But a wolf dog cant have 100% wolf dna. I am so smart lol
Samuel A Well I meant it like that but I'm too lazy to type it out.
It's okay even if you were lazy to type. It's ok. Ahahahhahahaha. Not being rude. But you didn't mean that. You cannot say that you knew cause you didn't.
Samuel A whatever
That is DM marker for paralysis in German Shepherds.
her dogs love her so much lol. so cute
You asked about what your audience would like to see in future episodes of Animal Watch. I noticed when I read other people's comments that there was a significant number of people who wanted videos about horses and a smaller number who wanted cats.
If you are going to go in that direction, I would suggest that you have separate channels for horses (and donkeys & mules and zebras and so on) and cats to the main canid channel. For the cats, how does "Anneka's Catitude" sound?
i did wisdom panel on my dog recently. they don't do the pie chart with the "breed groups" crap anymore, and instead they break down every single thing so you know exactly what's in your dog! and she's...2% poodle? lol, adorable pooch you have there and if you check your email you may see the updated results!
See I appreciate this so much. I believe I know what my dog is but her father was a stray. I couldn't figure out what would be the best company to choose due to the fact that she is, mixed. I want accuracy. Especially since she's getting older, and I'd like to know what to look out for. She already seems to be having hip issues... Quite depressing to watch your overgrown babies in pain.
best kind of dogs to own
Good info anna!
your hair is lovely
Clear of all 165 genetic markers for common dog diseases? Just goes to show that "design races", as in bred specifically to please some human's sense of aesthetics, is indeed unhealthy and creates all sorts of problems for the dogs. Really seems as simple as, the more mixed a dog, the healthier they are. When will we finally take a better, more health focused approach to dog breeding.
I have three Chinese strays from different litters, they have a dingo look to them. I would love to see their dna
What a gud pup
So Wisdom Panel is similar to Ancestry and Embark is similar to 23andMe. If these tests were cheaper, I would get Embark for my two. They are both Siberian Husky/Golden Retriever/Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mixes and I am curious to see if they carry any diseases. I'm also curious if one of my dogs has malamute somewhere because her tail bends all the way over and touches her back naturally.
The German shepherd in her is clear:) Seems like the mix breed street dogs are healthier! All the best*+*
Thank you Anneka for this video since I sent you a message through Instagram regarding DNA test and why I need it for one of my adopted pups. Please try to read my message and reply as I need to ask some questions privately.
I'm curious to see if you sent in DNA from pure breed German shephard as in rings tin tin type. what the DNA results would be.
How many dogs and wolf dogs do you own? Love this video!
I would like to do such test to my dog and dog from my area(but not mine). i think second one may have malinois dna in him.
I prefer the Wisdom Panel breakdown of her heritage
