I don’t think it can be overstated what this track did to our brains back in 1991. Video games didn’t have remixes. Hell, the Super NES was the first console where the soundtrack could really be considered “arranged”. So to play White Land I, and then proceed immediately to White Land II, with a new version of the same tune, was shocking, and eye-opening. It really expanded my horizons on what game music could do.
I can imagine how mind blowing the leap was, yeah. And F-Zero KNEW it had good music, because the manual literally told you to make sure to play with a stereo sound system if available. Nintendo knew they had made a masterpiece, not just gameplay wise, but also in the music department.
@@Rubiktor012 I wonder if that's what it was really for or not; it is a racing game after all, perhaps they said that so players could give themselves a sense of where enemy vehicles were I think the music is amazing too, but a "Hey! You play this game with a stereo to hear the music better!" with engine noises, boost pad sounds, explosions, and warning sounds that you can't turn down at all would probably drive parents mad (if my own parents were anything to go by lol)
8 year old me thought I had to use a super speed boost to get past that gap till my brother said just press down on the D-pad while going over the gap, F me!
I have a clip of me taking it slow (just wanted to beat the Grand Prix since you don’t get knocked out in the final race) and I didn’t make that jump but used my full gold bar to pull me out of the pit and take the skyline. Ended up getting 5th overall. Awesome game.
I love how after White Land 1 you immediately go to White Land 2, and are shocked how it has remixed music. The only second stage that does this in the game. Hope they keep that for when the stage comes to F-Zero 99.
Another fun fact, did you know you can actually jump from white land 2 to white land 1? So not only are the tracks next to eachother sequentially, but they're actually next to eachother in location as well.
@@dragons_hook yeah you can see parts of the other track from the same region: Very obvious in death wind, port town and red canyon Hard to spot in white land and silence (silence got a 2nd track in the satelliview expansion for the game) Not there in mute city and big blue

Ich werde nie Vergessen wie viele leute bei White Land 2 aufgegeben haben. Dabei war es doch so einfach wenn man ein bisschen logisch mitgedacht hatte 😊
If I had to guess, its because White Land 2 is the finale of the Queen cup. Gotta make it feel different. Especially since White Land is immediately before White Land 2. My question is why its White Land at all. Unlike the Mute Cities, Death Winds, and Port Towns, White Land 2 has a completely different track layout. Its not a remix track at all, but it got the White Land theming. I guess they didn't have the time to make a brand new aesthetic theme.
@@TeknanamIn the original F-zero, many of the original tracks have a thick black border that blocks entry to the "remixed path" at some point. White Land is special because instead of having a track remix, (WL1 doesn't have the thick black border anywhere) White Land 2 actually gets an entirely new track that's located right next to White Land 1. In fact, if you hit the jump in WL2 and go in a certain direction, you can actually land on a part of WL1 before the pickup ship takes you back to the track you're currently racing. ruclips.net/video/vx6Nc97cTOI/видео.htmlsi=iJuS1Kt3UZoSo0QU
In 99, I finished Queen Cup last out of them all so White Land II was the final stage to see for me. Gotta say, super weird. Either gimmicks seen no where else or a lack of them (is there a single rough road patch on this course?). Cool tunes tho
well those road patches are snow and it's one gimmick is that infamous giant gap and I guess the other one is the ice and the electrical bumpers at the turns making them even harder to turn without taking too much damage (luckily it doesn't bounce you)
vividly remember using Game Genie codes to get infinite "Spare machines" and infinite turbos to beat King League because of white land being such a pain and F Zero 99 does not make it any easier to like it XD
Its questionable if its shorter, but 99's specific mechanics makes it easier to reach the speeds required to clear the jump without holding down. After all, SNES F-Zero has no Lap 1 boost so you have no easy way to recover your lost speed from the back-to-back hairpin turns. You need to be around 390 -400 km to clear the jump in both games. The average newbie playing the SNES game would be around 360 and fall to their doom. But only experts reach White Land II in F-Zero 99.
As I'm listening to this I can't help but anticipate the sound of my vehicle crashing and burning on that giant gap.
Press and hold down d-pad button before the jump
You are welcome
you lost!
Before I knew about the d pad, I knew I didnt have a chance unless I hit the ramp at 300 kmh or more lol.
