Especially top level drivers including mine. I've never believed he was as good as they say he was. Way to many NASCAR gate stuff he and Chad were always in the news about. I'm not a hater just think he wasn't all the hype many made him out to be. Especially when he couldn't win a race if his life depended on it at the end of his career. Brad has an excellent point- even if you don’t want to hear it. Jimmie is immeasurably talented, but the best driver in the world goes nowhere without a quality team behind them. I follow the World of Outlaws sprint cars, have for years. The two best I ever saw were Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz (and of course now Brad Sweet). They have a multitude of wins and championships, but quickly point out it was because they had a team that could give them equipment they could use their talents to best effect. The simple fact is, Jimmie won SEVEN cup titles- with his TEAM.

Gordon was/is the co-owner of the 48 team. Rick Hendrick wanted nothing to do with Jimmie because he was a wrecking ball before he entered the Cup series. Gordon basically told Rick to trust him and that this kid had what it takes to be great. Gordon became his mentor. 2017 was fine Jimmie got wins. 2018, No hendrick even made it to the Final 4. And hendrick as an entire organization only amassed 3 wins. So it wasn't a good year for the entire group. 2019 was a coming back to the front year with 4 wins total. 2020 was a year Jimmie should have got a win. Cars were good and plenty of wins so ya.

Also Jeff has 93 wins! one of the most winningest drivers EVER so he can thrive in a win driven format. But he failed and Jimmie excelled. Considering Jimmie finished twice in 2nd for the winston Cup championship in his first 2-3 years in the series Im sure we could have won 3 or more Cup championships under the winston format in his prime.

@@MattMRKMFMattJG24 Well isn't the whole point of nascar to win races? Consistency is great and all but a win is what matters more than anything in our sport. Winning is alot harder to do too at times then being consistent (especially during the most competitive era in all of Nascar) with a good car/team you can run top 10 year round but consistently going for wins like Jimmie did is alot harder to do.Consistency is important don't get me wrong. But you also can't act like Johnson wasn't consistent. Again he finiahed 2nd twice in tbe battle for the Winston Cup championship in his first 3 years in the sport. So he had the consistency to do it. Also Jimmies first 5 championships were still in the first playoff format (not what we have today) where it was very points dependent sure winning often earned you more points (as it should ) but he didn't even have to win the final race at Homestead those years because he won on points. So you had to be both consistent and be able to win alot of races

I want him to come back to Nascar. His final few years were just horrible timing. Chevy was so far behind for a few years, and then the final falling apart with Knaus, and having to go through another crew chief before finally getting a decent one with Daniels. Covid screwed up his final year, and the no qualifying that year just destroyed his (and most other drivers) chances of winning a race. The top 12 were guaranteed the top 12 spots on the track each week, and those guys got all the wins. Meanwhile, every other driver was fighting from the back week after week. It was just wrong. Johnson deserved a better final year.

Honestly i didnt have any hatred toward any other driver, until joey logano got into nascar. Ever since i got into the sport in 06, I despised him cuz he didnt respect the sport as much as other great drivers, and had the luckiest circumstances fall into his lap. No doubt hes an all time great, but man, i cant say i miss him like most off yall in here. Plenty of other guys i miss more (gordon, stewart, jr and kenseth)

Honestly, this sorta comment is a bit revealing about who you are… you hate a man, most notably, in your own words, because he was lucky?
I mean I totally get not liking someone, envying someone’s success, or thinking someone is undeserving of success… Plenty of drivers I dislike - for reasons like character, as opposed to success albeit, but hating a human as good as JJ either reflects poorly on you, or you simply ignorant about the kind of person JJ is, and the way he lives his life. No of his competitors has a cross word to say about him, he’s an absolute role model among humans let along professional athletes, which is virtually unheard of these days. I mean do your thing - proclaim your loathing all you’d like, but claiming you’ve got the balls to to say you hate JJ is like saying you wore born yesterday or your a shallow, low character type of person. Cheers
