Meet the conservatives the Left fear the most

  • This week, the best and brightest of the British Right gathered in London for the National Conservatism conference.
Leading up to NatCon there was much speculation from the Left that it would be an opportunity for the far-Right to spout bigoted hate.
I went to NatCon to find out the truth in a new documentary for The Telegraph.
NatCon's attendees were young, articulate and bright; I did not pick up on a whiff of extremism.
Instead, there was much anger with the Tory Party for its failure to enact conservative policies.
For example, their broken promises on immigration and leftward drift on social issues were two major contentions for the conference goers.
Whilst there is much noise about how the Conservatives are failing to engage young people who are increasingly Left-wing, they have also alienated those with more traditional views.
By becoming a socially-liberal party under David Cameron, the Tories have simply been outflanked by Labour on social issues whilst angering their core voters.
This week, Matt Hancock warned the Tories against pursuing a socially conservative agenda, claiming his former party would cease to be an electoral force if they did so.
If the Conservatives decide to merely become a replica of their opponents, then what is the point in them?
This goes to explain why Sunak's party is so far behind in the polls; if you abandon your core principles and betray your electorate, do not expect them to vote for you.
Speakers at NatCon were not afraid to touch on controversial issues, including demography, defending our history, immigration, and the degradation of our culture.
On all of these issues the Conservative Party have for far too long been on the wrong side.

The great ceremonial history is our heritage but should be exempted from politics. Britain needs politicians with ideas and the will to endorse them. A working conservatism is one that maintain the dynamics in a society that it continues to work in a more or less fashion without painful disruption to the stakeholders, while allowing for continuous trials and errors that do not have immediate systemic impacts, negative or positive, to address public issues. Ideally, there is the mechanism for curbing rent seeking, such that those have more does not continue to have more just because the had more.
Conservatism with the above interpretation should focus on uniting and incremental improvement, and not on splitting and disruption.
Who focus on splitting citizens into groups? Instill hatred and anger? Promote civil war? Extremists, fundamentalists, authoritarian regimes, revolutionaries, opportunists do, regardless how they label themselves and which umbrella they are under... real conservatism won't do these.

"Who focus on splitting citizens into groups? Instill hatred and anger? Promote civil war?" Right wing think tanks out of Tufton street (at least in the UK). The modern "splitting citizens into groups" strategy they've adopted is a direct copy of Vladislav Surkov's when he was Vladimir Putin political strategist. Worked reasonably well in the US, hasn't done as well over here.
Although the Tories acting like this really isn't new thing though, Thatcher's rhetoric was pretty extreme and divisive to be honest. It just gets significantly worse when they are threatened. It's a move a desperation, all the while they are screaming at top volume that they are the "silent majority". It's beyond parody, especially in the US, the reality is that new technology and the Tories inability to adapt will leave them left behind and split until they do.

Small? Surely they represent a great number of our countrymen and women. There’s a huge appetite for a confident, coherent and unified conservative vision. The red wall voters are small-c conservatives. As a Gen Zer myself, I’ve spoken to many people my age who feel that there’s a real conservative backlash brewing against the excesses of the millennial far-left.
The problem is the “Conservative” party has not been conservative in living memory, and the nature of proportional representation is such that opting for smaller parties is essentially throwing away a vote.
Don’t make the mistake though of underestimating the conservative sway of the people. It will find an outlet inevitably, just as it has done in Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary…

I’m a Labor member of 25 years and the idea that National Conservatism is the future of the Tory party is music to my ears. The British public always reject extremes, it’s why Jeremy Corbyn failed so catastrophically. The Tory party have completely failed to grasp this and are lurching further and further to the right. As they move away from the centre they leave behind the British public. Labor could be in power for 25 years at this rate.
