  • How about some Windows ME experience on modern hardware? In this video Windows Millennium is installed on a Intel 13th Gen CPU with the help of cregfix.vxd - the driver version of the original cregfix released by Mintsuki.

    I am really happy someone converted my cregfix to a VXD, it's probably the best way to use it in combination with Windows 9x. I would've done it myself but I lack enough Win9x knowledge to know how to do that :p
    Next thing would be to get BIOS manufacturers to fix the issue at the root so that cregfix isn't needed anymore!

      first 'next' thing is a pull request to your git with the source for the VXD version. I'm not at all comfortable using code this low-level if I can't see what it does.

      I'm happy you enjoyed this "time travel experience"... Windows Me had support from Microsoft until mid 2006. Hardware manufacturers stopped making drivers for Windows 98/ME about the same time. So if you pick a PCI-Express GPU from ATI or nVidia dated 2005-2006 you can find Windows ME drivers. Yes, in theory, but also it depends on hardware, especially on modern setups. For example, I was trying to play Thief and didn't start with MaxPhysPage=30000 (768MB) on a Intel 3770K but it worked with 512MB. So I think it's better to start with less RAM and test all your games and software, then "upgrade" to 1GB or more (with patchmem).

      Indeed, there is some artifacting when installing Windows 9x across multiple hardware generations, it's not specific to AMD GPUs. Depends mainly on your motherboard. @@foch3 Hmm.. Did you followed these exact steps? You copied Win98 installation kit onto your SSD -> booted from SSD -> started installation from there? If so, maybe it's something wrong with your SATA/AHCI configuration. Use SATA port 0, then give it a try to AHCIFIX.386 *made made primarily for Windows 3.x but it is compatible with Window 9x also*. You have to insert this line into WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI, under [386Enh] device=ahcifix.386 then make sure this file is copied into WINDOWS\SYSTEM. You can find here ahcifix.386 (into description) : ruclips.net/video/vSqyZxbyHww/видео.html

      I will try my best, on a quick search I found this AM5 motherboard with one classic PCI slot: ASUS AMD AM5 PRO B650M-CT-CSM. There is only 1 x PS/2 port otherwise looks almost identical with the Asus H610M- C D4 CSM I'm using in this video.

      @__mintsuki 2 месяца назад

      @@O_mores I think you mean A620M-C-CSM. The B650M-CT-CSM does not have a PCI slot.

    • @__mintsuki
      @__mintsuki 2 месяца назад +1

      Also keep in mind that the single PS/2 port is not able to drive a keyboard and a mouse simultaneously... I do have a B650M-CT-CSM and that is the single worst downside of it...
      I bought an MSI PRO B650M-B specifically due to the fact that it has 2 functioning PS/2 ports, but it has other downsides like a really bad BIOS and only 1 COM port and no LPT ports.
      On the other hand I am actually working on a solution to drive a second, proper, PS/2 mouse port on the ASUS B650M-CT-CSM, by driving wires from the super I/O chip directly into a PS/2 splitter.

      I guess for the very same reasons many people are using VMs and things like PCem exists -> pcem-emulator.co.uk/ Except you get better performance on real hardware.

      I did some research before and the correct pronunciation is this: "məˈlenēəm" (google translate) or google search "muh·leh·nee·uhm" So the first "i" is muted... But in Italalian/Romanian/French/Spanish... you do pronounce the first "i" and this is the natural way I would say "Millennium". The end result it's a mess... sometimes I tried without the first "i" another time I didn't pay attention and I said it as in my native language.
