In rememberance of your Frances Langford. Gone 14 years today. What a wonderful and underrated singer you were. My favorite scene in Yankee Doodle Dandy is when you are singing Over There! Thank you for your services to your country. You did a lot with song! Just ask the GIs'.
I never knew she was a singer. I knew her only as Blanche of The Bickersons. I have two of their albums since the early 60's and love them. They were perfect together in that. After hearing this she was a lovely lady with a lovely voice also. Thank you. God Bless You. Barry
@@kathleenbonner4146 The Bickersons - Don Ameche & Frances Langford | Just got that from search and I have two of their records. Never heard of Fran Warren. God Bless You. Barry
colora40 What a wonderful song.Think to dance the last dance whith your sweetheart. Thank you CarloQuinto that you have such a special taste of music and can do other peoples happy.I hope younger ones find your music.
Gydinglight12, In answer to your question, based on listening to various transcripts, the radio programs got out to the theater two ways. The first was short wave radio. The second, and probably more reliable, was the radio program was "transcribed" (recorded) to disk, and the disks were flown out to radio stations closer to the troops.
She was the best!!!! if anyone has gone to Jensen Beach Florida to her restaurant, the Outrigger, she made the best Lobster Bisque in the world. Frank Sinatra used to have it shipped to Las Vegas in the 50's. Not just a great singer, a great creative chef too.
I am truly humbled and delighted that you not only read the books but read them twice! A greater complement an author cannot receive! I thank you so much! Book 3 'No Matter How Impossible is 2/3 done and should be ready to publish to coincide with Frances' 100th birthday in April 2013. It is the best yet! Then I will aggressively pitch the series to the movie guys. Ridley, Woody, Ron, get ready. Frances is a' comin'!
Just out of curiosity--could the guys in the jungles in Burma actually pick up Armed Forces Radio? Interesting that Don Wilson calls LA Lohs Angeles instead of the usual Lawss.
@colora40 Thank you so much! I do love Frances Langford so much. She was such a special lady and had such a special way with a song. I've written two fantasy time travel novels starring Frances Langford and a third is in process. Maybe you'll be interested. Both published books are available on Amazon.com. Frances studied opera as a young girl and that training shows in her diction, phrasing and the tremendous support she is able to give to her voice as opposed to so many other singers.
Oh and she was talented in another medium I hardly ever see mentioned. For all of you who may not be aware, she played a part in what has to be the funniest most laff infested radio show to ever air on American radio. IMHO and if you ever heard The Bickersons with Don't Amache, hope I spelled his name right, you might agree. She played Blanche Bickerson, and the shrewish voice she used would never convince you the actress playing that part, could be as beautiful as she was. Try and find the radio versions, not the videos that are available. Use the theatre of your imagination. The Bickersons were rolling on the floor funny and Amache was brilliant in his role on that show.
That should be Don Amache, not Don't. There isn't any easy edit feature once the mistake or typo is submitted. I have found that words are often changed by what the built in dictionary thinks the word should be.
My mother told me she lived in Florida, and she could be a cousin of hers. I saw her in Milwaukee Wisconsin at a outdoor shopping mall. I said to her. Your, your, and I couldn't remember her name. She said to me, oh, come on now!, l walked further ahead of her, and then turned and said... Frances Langford! She nodded her head and walked off proudly. That was in the early 70s.
Pat Bogost aww that’s lovely, the only thing I really know about her is part Scottish as she comes from my dad side of the family and her name Frances was inspired my great auntie Frances who is her 1st cousin. Frances Langford chose her stage name to be the same name as my great auntie who is called frances Langford. Frances Langford’s real name though is Julia.
@ ... Elizabeth Jackson / My mother said that she was related somehow to her. I think a distant cousin. Isn’t it ironic that we are somehow connected to her. I think she must’ve been a delightful lady. She didn’t age very well...but she lived to be 91 years old. She lived in Lakeland Florida and that’s where my mother lived before I was born in 1939.I am now 80 years old. But I certainly don’t feel old. Nice talking to you, you sound like a lovely person.
Elizabeth Jackson... I was born in Tampa Florida. I moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin ...when I was about 10 years old. I think it’s so cool that we’re all, you, Bill , and I are somehow related to Francis Langford. I think she would really like that. Have a great life!
I loved her in the Glenn Miller story movie

Once Frances gets ahold of you, she doesn't let go! And you don't want her to let go! Thank you for your comment!
Charles Henry , bad 🎶
We will win this war!
Ok, Sir, I've read both of your books - twice -,
When are you and Radley Scott going to make the movie?
She sure did a lot for the war effort for several years....what a great gal!
@enigmamelodies
"From Brooklyn to Burma" The divine Miss L
Why is this the 'other' version? It's the only one most people know.
Women in those days were hot , beautiful voice
She's good, but she's no Jimmy Durante.
