Nothing has declined about his voice, he has honed his vocal talent to a fine art. Instead let us us savor his music, talent, and what it brings to our lives. I have been following him for years. He has a outstanding, anointed talent that rivals anyone in gospel music. Even his peers get up and shout when he is singing, this is exciting talent and very blessed by God. But one of his greatest attributes is he lives what he sings, and is sincere and true. This concert of his was very exciting to me, I got up and shouted while he sang, and I was here at home. Outstanding talent.

David is probably the most technically proficient contemporary singer of the last forty years. Unbelievably good singing. I actually wonder if I'll see another contemporary singer of his caliber in my lifetime, and I am still relatively young.
As I listened to this song for the first time today, I was so moved that I wept like a baby. Praise the name of our God.

Never apologize for asking questions. The best answer I can give is that God's power is just about impossible to understand. David Phelps has written a song in which he tries to imagine what it would be like to stand before God and see the full glory of the Almighty. The phrase, "I am that I am" is a statement from the bible describing God--always in existence, forever. Hope this helps a little bit.
All I can say is WOW....Glory Hallelujah!!! Way to praise Jesus!!!!!! David's voice truly is a gift from God. I am SO grateful that I am able to hear such a gift used to exalt our Holy Lord. We've been blessed to see David in concert twice (we make SURE to see him every time he comes to town). I can tell you my husband and I can't remain in our seats during his performance (and my husband is a singer). You can't help but to stand up and praise Jesus at times during David's performance. He sounds just like this in concert! He is NO studio artist! For my husband and I, David is our favorite artist and that includes secular singers!

David Phelps is unbelievable. I almost feel bad for Wes Hampton because he's so freaking good and just happened to go through Gaither Vocal Band at the same time as one of the best tenors of all time lol
But Wes is also very talented. I've met him a few times - what a great guy! And a great cook - he has a cookbook out which I purchased. The recipes are awesome.

I am trying not to be jealous of the fact that you were there. I'll bet it was a blessing to just hear him. I am going to the GVB concert in Lancaster, Pa. in April. I saw David solo and now I get to hear him and the Vocal Band. I am so blessed that my health is good enough to attend the concert.
Haha, you can't imagine how much he sings yearly, I assume its somewhere around 200 days per year, and he is singing the most challanging songs...other singers would be happy to perform at such a level once in their lifetime and he does it daily, all year long.
So yeah I guess he might have days when he is not holding some notes as long, but what he is doing is still beyond human.
BTW his voice clearly darkened a little-bit, which is a natural thing that occurs with age, but it didn't really affect his high notes, they are still powerful and solid as hell. I mean as heaven.

Heavenly, I can never tire of this song or great gift to the body, David Phelps.
Recently my pastor preached on the issue of music. Specifically on what is holy, Godly music and what is not. He had a litmus test for us to consider when we listen to music to have good biblical discernment about what we should listen to.
1st, the style of music matters. Any music that was born of a rebellious, sensual, angry origin is not a good vehicle to carry the message of the Gospel and of biblical truth. This music is lovely and a perfect format to express biblical truth.
2nd, the lyrics must convey sound biblical doctrine and truth. The melody can be lovely, but if the words fail to deliver biblical truth it is all a waste, a failure, and at the end of the day more likely to cause confusion and biblical blindness. This song conveys tremendous biblical truth in the true deity of God. It alludes to the Holy Trinity, it correctly reveals the glory due to Him from all of creation.
3rd, the performer must humble himself so that only God is lifted up, and not the performer. In other words, all the glory belongs to God and not David Phelps. In this regard I think there is a mixed message from the performance. David seems to be taking a muted bow of sorts for the performance. While the performance is amazingly beautiful, the talent and skill are not David's. The talent and skill are gifts from God that the Lord has allowed David to use for His glory and praise. All praise, honor, and glory belongs only to God and none else. Turn off the sound and watch the performance...to whom is the performer seeking to give the glory to. I do not doubt David's love of God, nor am I questioning his salvation and relationship with Jesus Christ. But the Bible says clearly that there is a difference between praising and worshipping God, and entertaining and seeking the applause of the world.

I love listening to David sing, and most of his music is certainly worthy of being called God honoring. Still like all of us David is not perfect, and like us all sometimes the flesh can cause us to stumble a bit.
I pray that God allows David to sing for Him for many years to come. Provided David remembers:

I agree with you, and pray the accolades of the world do not drown out David's acknowledgement of Who gave him this gift. I must say, David has made the most of honing his specific talent (through musical training and much practice); it's wonderful he's using it to minister to others by glorifying our Savior and Soon-coming King of Kings! I thought I'd share another brother in-Christ I've listened to over 30 years...Steve Green. More than his blessed voice and song selections, which praise and point to our beloved Lord and Savior, he's also humble. Steve Green was also a Gaither Vocal Band member for a time (in the 80s?). If David is desiring the glory for himself, then we should be interceding for our brother in Christ. God knows his heart, and God is able to correct and anoint.

Its a concert, you drooling moron, not a worship service. Of course David Phelps is gonna accept his much merited praise at a concert.
I used to sing with the worship team at church and the same thing was said in that it needs to be about God through us and our performances. I never really got that - I mean what does that look like? To engage the audience, you have to be emotionally involved too, otherwise it falls flat. David's ability to sing beautifully is a gift from God and David acknowledges that! He is enjoying himself in the process, which is right - he is having fun! He is very humble and gives the praise to Him.

The more you read the more it brings understanding, start with the GOSPEL of John, then Matthew, Mark and Luke. I prayed for wisdom, and started with only reading the RED type (what JESUS himself said) I took all human input out of the way. Later I read them in total. Then started from the beginning, and read through the entire Bible. I learned to love mankind as GOD loves us. We are like little children, good and bad, but wonderfully made! HE has blessed my life in so many ways! I pray HE will enter your heart and soul and bring you to Life Eternal!
