I am eternally grateful to have seen and heard the late John Grady and the late, great Donald Dumler (a total musician for all seasons) making white-hot musical performance at Saint Patrick's Cathedral for Midnight Masses. John was very grandiose amd sweeping in gesture but still always 100% musical, even in his solo performances. Donald was such a consummate "artist for all seasons", never tied to the score but always anticipating where the musical line was going. His improvisations at St Patrick's whre "through the roof"(going up a half step, each step higher, as the cleric stepped into the sanctuary) Always in time and one step ahead of what was going on. I am eternally grateful to have heard these two musicians command the music of thousands right in this room and leave the memory of their total "music for the masses" approach. a guiding example decades later.
+ Lord, this year has had many blessing and I thank you but this year has also had its many challenges. Give me the strength to get through these tough times. Amen. Merry Christmas to all!
Thank you for covering the services from prelude to sortie. The music is inspiring as is all of the service. Once, years ago when we lived in manhattan, I recall going to a mass here in person. That would be the only thing better than this recording.
He passed on the opportunity to fully address what is happening today in Bethlehem the birthplace of Christ. This is what is considered a safe sermon. SMH.
Well, that's because this Mass is, what used to be called in the pre Vatican II days before 1970, ''high Mass.' For non Catholics, that's with all the singing, cantering, a deacon, sometimes multiple priests, etc. Much more formal and with all the pomp and circumstance. And of course, it's celebrated by the Cardinal himself. There were actually EIGHT Masses at St. Patrick's on Christmas Day. This was the major one and the only one live streamed and celebrated by the Cardinal. The others were regular Masses.
Perhaps another Mass not celebrated by the Cardinal would be something you'd like. They have them during the week, so that might be a good fit. Of course, they aren't all as formal as Christmas morning. Merry Christmas to you!@@retroguy9494

Way too much singing and not enough talking -
