I can't even be mad about the short highlights after the absolute smashing Iga gave Halep. Iga's definitely got a new fan!
Am amazed by Iga locked into her game completely no fear whatsoever whom she is playing. A clean win from the new star who was counted out but she rose above the favourite. Tennis is a straight forward game that's why I love it. It was just too many praises of one person over all the others very unfair but now am a new fan of Iga too. Bravo Iga.
She actually made Halep look like a bad player. She always had the better answer, incredible match, as if she's unbeatable.
Swiatek's game is really solid, some those shots at net were crazy good. This young lady has a real chance at the FO now.

Ladies and gentlemen, the beauty of the grand slam. What an upset and a performance by swiatek....
Tbh, I already thought that Iga could win the match in the last year and I was surprised that she lost 1-6,0-6 but she lost the match because of her nerves and emotions. Everything was new for her, she was in the 4th round of a grandslam for the first time in her life, so she had to get used to it. But after getting to this point once again, she knew what to do due to more experience and she really delivered and showed that she can play tennis. I would like her to win this tournament, but it will be very hard. If she maintains calm and composed, I think that she can really win her first slam.
Tactically she played very well. Very impressed by this young lady.
Swiatek dominates the entire match. Her shot selection is difficult for simona to chase and return the ball. Another big upset.
Its not an upset. Iga is a different player now. Her type of play is one level up from current top women's player.

@@jeffreykaufmann2867 consistency i guess? You can't just win one game to a world number 1 with 2 grandslams then you'll be in the top 10 in the world. Not unless Iga will pull if off and have her first GS and continue winning for the next 2-3 tournaments before the year ends. That's the problem of WTA, players just come and go.

@@mondragonfly8560 They don't so much "come and go" vs they don't dominate. Serena did it for so long mainly due to her power. Her serve gave her lots of free points, not that common in the women's game. And Iga won a "match" not a "game".

The scary thing about this performance is swiatek converted just 4/14 break points so it could’ve been worse for Halep like 6-0 6-0.

Halep made 15 UE's. This could have been a massacre. Even Swiatek was surprised how well she played.
Swaitek won the girls Wimbledon championships a few years ago, and I think she's the youngest player in the top 50. She has a beautiful all court game, with amazing footwork and control on every shot. Naomi Asaka picked her to have a rivalry with, so she obviously knows how good she will be.

Last year I was so disappointed to see Iga lost to Simona so easily, what she's done today was truly astonishing. She simply brutalised Simona in her prime, she was much much better in every aspect of the game. This was an unreal performance, hats off. If she continues to maintain such focus, desire and skill she will be a champion for years to come!

healthy that she lost and lost in such way. A two Time Grand Slam champion, a two Time rolland Garros Runner UP, and Australian open Runner UP. 22 WTA titles won. No. 2 in the World.

@@zweigackroyd7301 - I disagree with your opinion. I have found THAT WTA page about Iga Świątek and there Iga herself speaks out her name in "normal Polish" for "people who know Polish language"(already).
But what I wrote was clear:
"To all the people who know English but know no Polish" - so my explanation is for people who would not even understand those sounds that Iga Świątek said there.
In English language and most other languages the Polish sounds like 'Ś' and 'Ą' do not even exist!
So, explaining to people with no knowledge of Polish language, that "this name should be pronounced with the Polish Ś and Ą" can be even more confusing and frustrating.
It is like explaining to someone who has absolutely no idea about the German language, that they should pronounce the name "Günter Götze" using the German sounds 'ü', 'ö' and 'z'…
But nonetheless that WTA players website is interesting for those who are interested in names and languages.

I fallow Iga since junior career. Last year it wasn't her self playing Halep you could tell she was overwhelmed, she had all the skills to outlasts Halep back then but the psychology wasn't there. Hopefully, she is mature enough to take this all the way to the trophy 🏆
