- (July 2023) Camino 2023 Day 6: Pamplona to Puente La Reina (with Eunate detour), about 27km
Lodging: Albergue de los Padres Reparadores, 9 euros (difficult getting into/out of top bunk, coffee machine and vending machines, kitchen)
A late night in Pamplona left me with tired legs in the morning, and the first half of the climb up to Alto del Perdón was tough! (But a break and an Aquarius helped get me through the last few kilometers). Then, the outstanding detour to Eunate!
A big thank you to all of my current patrons, your support continues to mean so much to me! And if you’re thinking about joining our group there… come on over! 😊

This is one of my favorite channels. You excel at making high quality videos. ❤❤❤
That is so kind of you to say! There is still so much to learn when it comes to the technical aspects of making videos, but I do really enjoy putting these together. And am so happy that you enjoy watching them!
@@NadineWalks Part of what makes your videos so fabulous is YOU. Your love for the Camino and your quiet humility make your videos stand out among all the others.
Thank you..having never walked the camino trails i am enjoying your videos enormously. You are helping me decide which trail to walk...
I'm so glad that these videos are helping you to learn more about different Camino routes! I hope you'll be able to head out on a Camino soon :)
Love visiting Eunate ❤. I just finished my Chemin Le Puy in Pamplona in July and walked to Alto de Perdon and back as a day hike (30km). Did 1st Camino in 2013 and I don’t remember that climb out of Zariquiegui being that steep either 😂😂. Met many locals doing it for a Sunday afternoon stroll. 😊 Really enjoy your videos. 😎❤️🥾
Haha I know, definitely a moment when I thought- "I'm not as young as I used to be..." And what a great idea, to finish in Pamplona but tack the walk to Alto de Perdon on as a day hike!
Hi Nadine, thanks for your lovely video. I will be in Pamplona next saturday to start my first camino. So exaiting. Hugs Lotta 🌞
How great!!! Have a wonderful time, and Buen Camino!
@@NadineWalks Thank you so much. Buen Camino 🌻
Thank you Nadine! Well done. Love your work. ✌️❤️🙏🇦🇺
Thank you so much!!
Love these vids with my Morning Coffee❤ Buen Camino y Bendigas a Ti 🙏☺️
I think watching these videos with a morning coffee is the best way to do it!!
@@NadineWalks 😁✨☕🌹
LOVE ❤ your videos! I walked my first one in 2015 & never stoppen walking Caminos! This year I walked a couple of weeks on the Via de la Plata too, so I am really lokking forward to your videos!! (Actually ALL of them 😍)
Buen Camino 🎉
Love Nadine, keep up the great work! Thank you. 👏
You're welcome! :)
So enjoyable to watch, seeing someone doing what she is passionate about
Thank you so much, I really do love walking the Camino!
Thank you for this. Did it last year. Many memories. Your vidéo made me remembrer détails that i had forgotten.
It's such a beautiful stage, isn't it?
Hi Nadine, I enjoy listening to your experiences, plus your explanations, enjoy the walking,
Cheers,
Michael

Thank you so much! It's so much fun to put these videos together :)
You make this look so easy and enjoyable. Excellent video. Be safe....
Well, maybe I didn't show enough of how tired I was for the first part of the day's climb! I was really dragging, but halfway up the hill, stopped for a break and a cold drink and that really helped refresh me :) But yes, the walking really WAS enjoyable, even when I was tired!
I did five times whole Camino Frances. I enjoy lots your videos. Like done. This summer is the hottest summer in Spain. Buen Camino.
Yes, it was very hot! I was lucky that I didn't have too many really bad days, but any afternoon walking under a hot sun is difficult. When will you be walking your 6th Camino?
@@NadineWalks I hope next spring i will do my 6th French Camino. It is a wish also a dream. This summer was terrible in Spain. A big hug and Buen Camino Nadine.
We got to Pamplona July 2011, at the start of the St. Fermin festival. Had to detour to avoid the crowds. Stayed next to a Templar church just before going up the hill. Lovely memories.
Ooh, that would have been quite the scene, to be in Pamplona during St. Fermin! I'm glad you were able to find a place to stay!
Hi Nadine. Thanks for another useful and interesting video.
You're very welcome!
The detour to Eunate is great. Only a handful of pilgrims on the day I went. 👍🏻
I was so surprised that I didn't see a few more pilgrims when I was there! Really a very quiet, beautiful detour.
Really enjoyed this episode. Your choice of "A New Decade Begins" as your soundtrack was on point.
Thank you, sometimes it's really hard to find music that matches the day, but every once in awhile I can find a song that feels like it fits! And I'm glad you thought that this one worked well!
Loved the cat mural at the end. Very interesting side trip off the main route. I have always wondered how much I will be willing to walk the side routes to see things when I finally do my own Camino.
For me it's hit or miss, and depends on how big of a day I've walked, how tired I am, etc. But I often want to at least take a little stroll around the place I'm staying! It can be fun to explore, as long as you have the energy :)
omg, please keep on going❤
More videos to come!
Thanks for your video, it made my day. I walked that stage in the rain 10 years ago, and I’m looking forward to walking it slower next time and visiting Eunate.
I personally think that having walked any stage in the rain means that one day, you have to return to do it again in better weather ;) (especially a stage like this one, where there are nice views and a fun detour!)
awesome...when I first read Hill of Forgiveness...I thought what? Ah...silly me Alto de Perdon! And aren't supposed to walk around the Eunate 3 times? Can't wait to get back...would love to retrace those steps! many thanks!
Is that true, walking around Eunate 3 times? I've never heard that... but if it's true, now I'm going to just have to go back... ;)
Love, love, LOVE your videos!! ❤ I’ll starting in Lourdes next week and doing the Frances, so I’ll be in Pamplona in a couple weeks. You’ll wait for me, right? 😅
Starting in Lourdes is going to be so great! One day I'd love to do that :) Have a wonderful Camino!
Hi Nadine, i'm planning my first camino in 2025. wondering what the weather temps are like this time of year? Thank You for all the Videos! Very Inspiring!
How do you make any progress with all of that scenery??!! I will be stopping to take photos constantly and never get to my destination! Thanks for these videos...very inspiring.
I know, sometimes it's very hard! This day was really so beautiful, especially those soft, streaky clouds at the Alto del Perdon... just stunning! (and I DID take so many photos!)
You must feel an old hand on Camino compared to a lot of the Pilgrims . Is the excitement still the same as you’re first Camino , guessing that you’re back at work you are ready to go again 😊
The excitement is still there, it's just different. Nothing compares to those first days on my first Camino, however, so in some ways it's hard for me to go back and walk parts of the Frances, because I know that I'm no longer that brand new, wide-eyed pilgrim, discovering it all for the first time. But there's also such a beauty in returning to the same places, and seeing how I've grown. (and yes, back at work now, and of course dreaming up my next walk!)
Keep dreaming , Next season will come and off you go 😊
In euskera (básque language) Eunate is "a hundred doors"
Oh I didn't know that! Thank you for the translation
@@NadineWalks It is because of the many "doors" (arches) ...not a hundred, obviously 😃
That church looked like it was octagon shaped which means it was likely built by the Templars. It could have been used as a waypoint. Didn't you go in? Or did you just admire it from afar? :-)
Oh I did go in! (there's one video shot of the interior ceiling). However they closed between 2-3 and of course I arrived to buy my ticket at exactly 1:48. So I only had about 10 minutes to walk around, and didn't have time to sit inside.
Which is harder the camino frances or from Porto?
I'm not really sure, I think they may be fairly similar in terms of difficulty level? Both tend to be recommended for a first-time pilgrim, and other Camino routes (Norte, Primitivo) are more difficult. I've only walked the Camino Portuguese Coastal route- not the central- so I can't comment from experience on the difficulty level. But because each is fairly popular, they tend to have enough albergue/services on each stage, which helps make them not as difficult as other routes.
Funny.... I was just watching the first 3 episode season of the BBC Pilgrimage series and the Romanesque church was featured. In the series apparently one of the caretakers is an American... is he still there? Anyway, the premise of the program is... we follow 7 British "celebrities" of various belief/non-belief systems as they walk sections of a pilgrimage route over a two week period. Each season (there have been 5 so far) features a different pilgrimage route... this year it was Fatima. Here are three from this year's edition talking about it during a British morning show... ruclips.net/video/_Ba6xNyR460/видео.htmlsi=HQ_pAmtlx8bz8bJL Also, really enjoying this little detour you took. Cheers and adventure on!
Oh thank you for this!! I'll definitely check out the link. I didn't see the American caretaker, though it's possible he's still there. I only saw one young man behind the "ticket booth", it was very quiet when I was there.
