    A fascinating game to play in Findhorn; Find a Scottish accent. Hours of fun for all the family.

      Aye, but there is a great sense of peace and tranquility there......at least until I got the bill for buying my family crisps, cokes, and two coffees in the Findhorn cafe. Suddenly the hairy arsed Scot was brought screaming into view at the sight of the bill. I thought I'd suddenly bought a super yacht. It's worse when your wife gives you the 'don't make a scene' look. Next time it's the jet boiler and a packed lunch.

      I would have been one of those many many years ago, As my father was Based twice at RAF KInloss. Findhorn Bay holds a special place in my heart, as I spent a lot of time there as a kid.

    Kind of interesting what is happening just now, a lot of folks making it hard for campers, and then you have the likes of all the new Aires popping up, which makes a whole lot of sense for Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, take care Cameron, and thanks again

    It is encouraging to see how people are creating safe spaces for us travellers in Scotland. There is plenty of opportunity to both support and develop the campervan/motorhome tourism and protect it for the future.

    Yes I do agree that £10 a night would be about right. But they don't just supply a parking space. First there is good spacing between each space, and they supply fresh water and chemical waste. I have asked about grey water facilities. Try parking your car in Arrochar now, its £9 a day, now thats steep.

      Yes, they have grey water disposal too. Essentially everything is there but EHU. The public toilets are OK.

    Always look forward to your posts Cameron, we did the NC500 a few years back but struggled to find any suitable secure stopovers in this area..I used to work in Fraserburgh many years ago but never got much time for sightseeing,we've found if you're given the opportunity to stay a couple of days in one place, there's more scope to explore the wee out of the way places and have some craic with the locals. Local knowledge definitely goes a long way. Great to know cheers.

    Come up with a solution but then scupper it by over-charging. I agree £10.00/night would be just about acceptable for what is basically overnight parking. If the £15.00 fee has been set in order to recoup costs, I'd suggest that costs would be met in a similar timescale at £10.00 since more would find that affordable.

    • @williamhurley8407

      Well don’t park your car for the day in Tobermory, or Arrochar, argyle and Bute charge £9 a day.
      I hope the money will be used to further improve this facility.
      And I much prefer their approach to what’s happening elsewhere, with signage and barriers being erected.

    • @keithdavo
      @keithdavo 3 года назад

      @@williamhurley8407 I won't. Neither will I park my small campervan at Findhorn for £15. Basic facilities are what's required which is what an aire, is: flat, with waste disposal - what improvements before you have a full-on campsite?

    • @williamhurley8407
      @williamhurley8407 3 года назад

      @@keithdavo Well that’s what it offers basic facilities, no showers, toilets, EHU, tv booster, Wi-fi, dish washing area, washing machine, games room, etc. Some of the campsites are charging £35-40 a night.
      I agree £10 would have been better, but they must have spent a fortune setting this up.

    Currently Northumberland County Council are trialing a scheme were you can stop overnight in selected carparks for £12 per night, no facilities and you must be self contained and are not allowed to sit outside your van.

  • @davidshaw577
    @davidshaw577 2 года назад

    Good to see some aire's popping up but £15 is too expensive for a full time van tourer like myself. £5 for waste facilities only or £10 overnight is most I'd be prepared to pay otherwise they may as well call it a campsite. In fact I'd rather just pay for facilities and often wondered why the councils don't install these at existing recycling centres.

    I really hope that more and more Aires open up and at a price that is similar to those on the Continent. As some of the fees are a bit on the rich side and when you can stay on a Cl site for similar or less.

    Le mont st michel in France is £15 for 24hrs and includes unlimited rides on the bus. But no facilities. The service point should be accessible outside the parking zone and charge for water. This is too expensive. A 2 bed house is £15 a night in Moray.

    • @williamhurley8407
      @williamhurley8407 3 года назад

      It’s not just for parking. You can’t empty your toilet, and grey water in a car park, and don’t get spaces designed for motorhomes with 4m gaps between each van.

    • @thenoworriesnomad
      @thenoworriesnomad 3 года назад

      @@williamhurley8407 You don’t need 4 m between each van, it’s an aire not the campsite plus there was provisions to empty your grey and black water

    • @williamhurley8407
      @williamhurley8407 3 года назад

      @@thenoworriesnomad correct it’s 6 metres between vans, and it’s not an Aire it’s an official stop over that has to meet legal requirements including fife regulations which clearly stipulate a 6m gap.
      As a general rule the spacing should be not less than 6 metres. Porches may
      protrude 1 metre into that 6 metre space and eaves, drainpipes and bay windows
      may also encroach into that space provided that the total distance between the
      extremities of each caravan is not less than 5.25 metres.
      The minimum space between caravans made of aluminium or other materials with similar fire performance properties can be not less than 5 metres if the Local Authority Site conditions allow
      For Caravans with a plywood or similar structure we are back to the 6 metre rule. If a site has a mix of caravans of aluminium and plywood, the separation distance needs to be 6 metres.
      In any event each Local Authority, as licensing Authority may have their own rules, but they cannot fall below these minimum requirements
      We looked at a site in North Yorkshire last year as a possible stop over site and the vans were less than the 6 metres so we gave it a miss!!

    A very informative video, but I can't help thinking that just like almost everything in Scotland it is a case of make-do. For campervan
    owners it must feel like another tax. £15 per night to park basically. RUclips is full of good people presenting Scotland and her
    scenery, but it all seems rather pointless if only a select view can visit due to pricey accommodation where available, and impossible
    if you were to rely on the worst public transport system in Europe.
    Freedom of the road for motorhomes until you decide to stop somewhere.

    • @syncrosimon
      @syncrosimon 2 года назад

      @@trustmetours57 yes that is true, but you just about always have the choice of free or paid. We have just spent 2 months in Spain and all the Aires we stayed at were free. Never even saw a water dispenser with jetons. My point is why is there such a disparity between us and every other nation.

    • @trustmetours57
      @trustmetours57 2 года назад

      @@syncrosimon I'm not sure why there is a reluctance to build Aire's in the UK. Maybe it's just worry about Travellers abusing that space or potential crime that makes local authorities steer away from it.
      Add to that, as the video evidenced some people will simply baulk at the idea of paying for such a facility. A bespoke Aire with toilet emptying and free water right on the coast for £15 a night is an absolute bargain yet the video maker is sucking air through his teeth at the cost.
      For some folk the thinking is why pay £15 to park legally and get water and dump the loo when they can park up illegally for free, use a public toilet to dump their loo and steal water from a church yard or garage forecourt?
      Just before Covid struck we learnt our lesson about using free Aires in Spain on the coast. We stayed in a free one in Playa D'Aro which is a few miles south of Palamos. Nice Aire but because it was free it was massively overcrowded with vans squashed in and overflowing onto the local street. Night 2 of our stop us and dozens of other vans were broken into, fortunately our Outsmart the Thief alarm system sent the burglar scurrying so we lost nothing apart from some damage to the thrivers door. Our German neighbours told us that every year they stay there and once every few weeks the same gang goes through the Aire breaking into vans to steal anything left in the front that's easy to get away with. No one gets hurt as the gang is simply looking for easy pickings.
      We have stayed all over Spain inland in free Aires and never once felt unsafe but for us never again will we stop in a free one on the coast.

      @@williamhurley8407 Cannich Campsite. £9 a night. So much nicer than Findhorn. When you are used to free Aires in France etc Findhorn is a bitter pill to swallow. A 3 month European trip we can do without visiting many campsites, but in the uk this is not possible, why? Are the French poor, or are we too rich? Most French seaside aires are cheaper than this, and there will be free ones if you prefer.

    • @syncrosimon

      The Motorhome service point should be outside of the carpark. The charging should relate to the parking. This way if it’s full you can refresh and move on. Charge a £5 for water. Loo emptying should always be free.
