I think a very interesting fact is that Mu, the epithet imu calls themselves, is actually the 12th letter of the Greek alphabet, which was adapted from the Egyptian hieroglyph for water. I also believe that this gives precedence to the idea that the initial D was adapted from a half moon or the hieroglyph for a half moon

Yeah it is the 12th letter but as a greek let me tell you, the letter is not spelled ~Mu, it is ~Mi. So its basically just the second letter of Imu's name. No mu pattern.

@@matejlaskomulej well oda uses many mythologies/languages at once for something. So he does have some greek words in it but if he does go for the english pronounciation it will be I am you (Imu) em not am but its so close that it doesn't matter

It really feels like Imu took control over the Gorosei's shadows when Sabo attacked. Maybe because of like you said they formed a contract of sorts or else Imu would have also controlled Sabo and Wapol. It's kind of like "making a deal with the Devil". Imu did have a devil's tail as a shadow. 👀

I agree. "making a deal with the devil" is a BRILLIANT way to put it, it could be a deal where they exchange bits of shadow and they get stronger or something, but then Imu can hear or see everything they do maybe. Something where they have no choice but to listen to Imu, but they also get incredibly strong (maybe immortal too?)

@@DaksSake immortal seems likely at this point. And given the scars and exotic dress and skills, I somehow doubt they were ever some pampered celestial dragons who wore bubbles around "plebs" either.
My personal theory, given the naming conventions and the above points, is that they might have been members of the ancient kingdom that switched sides, just adding the celestial dragon family names to their own as cover. In which case, they either made a deal with Imu for immortality and all that, or she just murdered them and her power can resurrect the dead as her servants kind of like the MC in Solo Leveling. The latter of which would explain the nasty scars but those can be obtained in other ways.

Imu coming down off of the throne in his/her form left me speechless. One can only wonder these individuals powers. Zodiacs come to mind when seeing these silhouettes. Named after planets, but utilizing star power. For some reason the seraphim have stars within their eyes, perhaps that is due to them being incomplete, but these gorocei and imu are complete, instead of being named after animals like the warlords, they are named after planets. The seraphim stated by Vegapunk are the closest thing to perfect. Perhaps he got the idea to make the perfect being after seeing the gorocei. If they have been alive since the void century, perhaps they are clones created by the ancient kingdom, that defied their master just like York did to Vegapunk.
I really like the idea that Imu's powers are tied to stars/space. Afterall, theres a lot of void out in space. Plus the fact that the Skypiean islanders originated from the moon, and Enel used a similar power to light. He seemed to have a electricity logia fruit (his wings were also drums so Im not sure if it was from a logia, or from something else), and used observation haki. Maybe Imu uses like a space space or void void fruit. Not sure but certainly interesting. Or perhaps he just has some powerful space magic

I haven’t seen anyone connecting the name Mu to the lost continent of Mu yet. An ancient kingdom where a whole continent was destroyed and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Often associated with Atlantis and Lemuria. Maybe you could look into that some more.

I figured out what the gorosei silohuettes are based on, they are animals associated with planetary constellations,
Gorbechev's is the Ram or Golden Ram
Tall Ganfall looking one is the eagle Aquila
Samurai Ghandi is the dove Columba or its the human human model: Hachiman
Blonde Gorosei is a bit tricky, its a tortoise with the harp(the Lyre) so maybe a music related turtle
Saturn is Ophion or an Ophiontaurus(half bull half serpent)
And Imu is based off the Bootes Void constellation of herdsman which is hard to pin an animal too for me atm(i still think Imu has the snake snake model: Ouroboros)

The best theory I have come up with is that king imu died but an awakened morias fruit gave his shadow it’s own life so the world has been ruled by an immortal shadow that clings to life and power… this is a sick potential twist and thematically awesome because the D all die with a smile but imu clinged to life afraid and his shadow continues to control the world after his death

Solid theory Dak. I think either imu or Dragon have the western dragon's mythical zoan. If you look at how it differs from the eastern one (having wings + limbs) then when turned into hybrid mode it can be the most similar shape to what we mostly presume to be the Devil itself. Even the tail can be an smaller version of a western dragon's tail and i think this would be a great parallel to Kaidou's devil fruit. Kaidou (Eastern dragon) was the secret ruler of wano with orochi taking the public face and imu (being the western dragon) is the secret ruler of the world having the five elders taking the public figure. Either that or Monkey D. Dragon has it and that's why similar to kaidou's flame clouds giving him wind like powers he utilizes the power to create climate altering events like winds and thunders.
I don’t think imu has a devil fruit, their giant form looks exactly like the monster at the end of thriller bark, plus that arrow looks like a devils tail, I bet they’re a sea devil

@@DaksSake I just realized another thing, when imu destroyed lulusia it looked like a giant eye was above it, which increases the chances of this being true considering the enormous size of the Florian triangle monsters
I also think that it gives more credence to Moria and Imu being related because remember when Doflamingo and the Pacifista tried to eliminate Moria and how it was an order from "someone higher". They just keep getting more and more connected
I think blackbeard is going to block out the sun, and Moria's power will be so OP the government needs it.
there is bits of a theory that Lili and Alabasta joining the World Government was "forced" after Joyboy failed. Joyboy's mission to bring down the Red Line didn't succeed. And because he failed to stop "Mu" from wrecking the remainder of the Ancient Kingdom Alliance, Lili took measures to make sure his mission could be continued later.... he was still able to leave that apology note to Poseidon... and Lili had the opportunity/means to get the other Poneglyphs spread out before ending up on Marigouis.
imu was one of the first 20 kings/queens who wanted immortality but were growing old. So, they had their body swapped with their own child and had the eternal life operation done on them. Perfectly explains Imu's stature and Doflamingo's strange goal. Goes directly against the theme of letting future generations carry your will.

Also, if IMU champions nightmares/darkness and Luffy championed dreams/light it would be an iconic representation. There is something to this. Luffy pursues dreams and makes them a reality through hardwork and will. Imu creates dreams by enslaving or shackling others to make their will real.

I just read from reddit a theory that Imu is actually Leviathan fruit user, Leviathan being the most powerful creature God created, it has 7 heads. It is called "Sea serpent"... And 5 gorosei are part of imu, infact the gorosei are the 5 heads of Imu... So that leaves 2 head left, imu being 1, so who is the 7th head? Joyboy. Joyboy was part of Imu, that is why Imu has the strawhat. So that would also explain why they refers themselves in 3rd person, and that "shadow attack" was in fact the tail of Leviathan.
There is a misunderstanding, it doenst literally says imu is one of the 20 kings, cobra said "But i recognise the name "imu" from the HISTORY of the first twenty".
You have the misunderstanding fam - the official literally says “I know the name Imu already, but it must be a coincidence… among the first 20-“ and then Mu cuts him off lmao. Clearly implying the name is from the first 20, and the reason it “must be a coincidence” is because there should be no way someone from 800 years ago is still alive.

Oda could've had Cobra say, "One of names of the first 20 was Imu..." and then cut him off before a surname, or flat out "I know that name. It's from one of the first 20 families."
He's left room for ambiguity. The scans have also left it ambiguous as to whether or not Imu is in that 20 or just affiliated with them.

Oda *could* do something different, but unless we have a good reason to think that we’d have to go with what it implies which is pretty evidently Imu being one of the 20 in the official, and the scans could even be read the same way for sure
Maybe Mu is an alien and the originator of Devil Fruits. Hence why "Mother Sea" (or the planet itself) rejects Devil Fruits. Devil Fruits being people's dreams given physical form and Mu being able to be read as dream could sort of fit together, maybe Mu originally granted Devil Fruits to people to create soldiers for it's war against the planet and it's original inhabitants.

I think rocks knew about imu and was trying to remove them from the throne. Rocks will has passed to Blackbeard and Blackbeard is now gathering the fruits he needs to take down imu and rule the world. The quake fruit, the dark fruit…and the shadow fruit which he will steal from imu becoming the final boss of the series and ultimate counterpart to luffy
I believe Imu has some sort of Null Null Fruit or Void Void Fruit, all consuming, all encompassing

Idk if anyone has had the same idea as me but I like the idea of Imu have the Void Void Fruit. Just like how some other fruits have similar but enhanced powers to others like fire and magma...void being a far more powerful fruit than both the shadow and dark fruits.

To your credit I also immediately thought that shadow looked like Saturn, no agenda and before looking at outside sources.
It follows perfect logic with dark being the antithesis to sun. So sun power would be countered by dark power, or “shadow”
I think another notable parallel to be drawn from both the number 16 and the relevance of dreams are the 16 dreams of King Pasenadi from Buddhist literature, which are also described as 16 nightmares, there's likely some inspiration there as well.
I think it would be absolutely amazing if Imu's Devil Fruit was meant to be a cartoon devil - like from Cuphead.

I don't know if anyone's thought about it (or cared), but I've been a bit curious about what the Gorosei fruits are. They appear to be Zoans and another channel (333vil I think was the channel name) was vehemently trying to drive home the idea of Saturn being a bison. Maybe, but I'm not as entirely sure as he is based on where my brain took it.
I'm fairly certain they'd be mystical zoans so I started thinking about the calendar-style (western) zodiac signs. The Gorosei all carry a planetary association and oddly enough the three planets that were not originally associated with the zodiacs are, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
Considering the various ways themes come together in One Piece, I feel this may mean something.Their silhouettes make me question myself, however. I can't necessarily tie each silhouette to a correlating zodiac. Just putting it out there in case anyone has any thoughts or insight to this query. I could just be eating the dumb-dumb fruit though. Haha

- I believe that the shadow figure that took out the Transponder Snails because as of yet we haven’t seen since Zoro kicked him off the ship & since last arc he was the one that told them how to cut communications by absorbing it
- Here is my theory on what each of the Gorosei & Imu transforms into:
- Imu I think has the leviathan a literal sea demon that can connect to the “sea Devil”& Umi which means sea
- Karl Marx aka Saturn is some form of bovine but I think he has a Ushi Oni fruit
- Gandhi looks like some form of human fruit awakened I guess it is a humanoid yokai which would still allow him to use his sword
- Lincoln became a humanoid in particularly a Umiboku
- Itagaki Taisuke is the the bird creature which is either a griffin, basilisk, or Ziz
- Gorbachev has the behemoth (which in some depictions is a hippo) & that horn is actually his mustache

I've wondered since that mention of the country of the same name if Imu is not somehow a homunculus, the shadows of that entire country, swallowed into their void, just like in Full-Metal Alchemist. That could explain living "forever" or as long as all the lifespans absorbed.
The Devil Fruits seem to have personalities and influence their eaters personality. I wouldn't be surprised if Imu's fruit, along with some events, kicked them over the edge.
I think it would be neat if imu had like, the direction fruit, able to change the direction of anything, ergo the arrows, but awakened, you could change the directions of anything? Light, shadows, maybe even fate? And only the most free can escape the directions of faith
But if it is a soul related fruit, a great cleansing would be a great way to get a Power Boost?

The idea I like most for Imu's fruit is that it' s something that makes them be made of clouds specifically storm clouds wether it be the mythical rain god or some type of logia. One way or another Imu is made of cloud considering Imu's expansive room filling form looks exactly like the clouds above Lulusia Kingdom. This could also give them cartoonish forms and abilities like Luffy. Also I heard when Imu says mu it's supposed to be Muu which instantly makes me think of Majin Buu and how child like he was.

Honestly, at this point i want imu to be luffys mom. Like dragon was in the navy, got called to the 5 elders, imu knocked him out, got his baby making juice, and had luffy. I mean it could work. Since the eldera couldn't get luffys fruit, so imus kid did.
I came up with a theory that Imu could be a sentient and living devil fruit.
We've seen devil fruits infused with objects but what happens if another devil fruit were to accept a devil fruit zoan model.
I had a cool theory that imus devil fruit is a better version of bb devil fruit but inverse, bbs devil fruit is refered to as the darkness fruit that absorbs anything in its path what if imus devil fruit is the void fruit and can absorb/ possess the user itself and can manipulate the space around the user

The will of D is the will of god, which is the spirit/will to rebel against the false god, Imu. Gan Fall from Skypiea is the definition of the will of D, or what it means. He is the expression of who Joyboy was, and what happened to him.
Joyboy was the first pirate and his crew was called the Akatsuki/pirates of the Dawn. They were the original D clan who refused to submit to Imu. Imu called them empty shells today because they've no idea they were the ones tasked with turning the world upside down by overthrowing the government. They inherited that rebellious will, much in a similar way as the will of fire from Naruto is inherited. So it's a will of land or a people. The people from the land of fire in Naruto were to said to have the will of fire. It's similar here. Joyboy was that fire as the sun god in the past, and he was god, just as Gan fall was god of Skypiea.
Also, i agree with the thought already out there that Imu is from space. She's something like Kaguya from Naruto.

imu refers to themself as 'mu' which means 'void' (as we know), but also 'nothing'. the admiral's fruits are upgrades of existing fruits, like how the mera mera fruit is a branch from the magu magu, hie hie --> yuki yuki and pika pika hasnt been confirmed yet. what if imu's devil fruit is the greater version of the yami yami no mi? (bb's df). think about it; imu nullified the effects of the mera mera no mi when sabo used fire fist, much like blackbeard did to ace, and it seems to be something to do with darkness but in another form. what if its a mythical zoan which has the abilities of the yami yami no mi, but also more abilities, or a logia like the yami yami no mi, but with different abilities and also sharing abilities with the yami fruit.
furthermore, imu draws similar appearances to the 'medjed' from ancient egypt, a minor diety-like creature. here are some parallels:
- the medjed can also translate to 'the smiter', due to its ability to create fiery beams from their eyes and mouth, but not be seen, similar to what happened to lulisia.
- an English translation of the Papyrus of Ani, Raymond O. Faulkner renders the portion of the spell referring to Medjed as follows: I know the name of that smiter [i.e., Medjed] among them who belongs to the House of Osiris, who shoots with his eyes, yet is unseen. The sky is encircled with the fiery blast of his mouth, yet he is unseen'.
this was taken from a page about the medjed. 'the sky is encircled with a fiery blast', very similar to the beam that erased lulusia, and the idea of being unseen is similar to imu.
- Medjed is often referred to as a 'demon', which ties into the demonic tail which attacked cobra.
