  • NOVEMBER 2019 After a wonderful 3 days in Comrat it was time to head to the republic of Transnistria, also known as Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublica (PMR).
    We thought we had to go via Chisinau, but it turns out that there were daily marshrutkas that ran directly from Comrat to Tiraspol!
    It was a great opportunity to see the countryside and to enjoy a scenic marshrutka ride!

    Hello all, Mandy here. This is my first video with our new editing software, so please be gentle with me! 😁😂
    We had such a wonderful time in this part of Europe and will definitely return one day!

    Great video, just found your channel from the recommendation of your escaping Uk lockdown to Portugal. Have watched lots of your videos in the past couple of days, very enjoyable to watch 👍

      @Liam G Thank you so much for your lovely comment! It's always great to hear how people found our channel, and that they enjoy our videos :) We're still in lockdown in the Algarve, so are finally catching up with footage from the past couple of years! There'll be a few more Portugal videos then hopefully we'll be going somewhere new. Thanks again for your kind comment!

    Transnistria is on my list of places that I would like to visit one day, and thanks to this video Komrat is now too! Don't know why, but I enjoy all your bus trip videos, especially the Eastern European ones. Keep on YouTubing you 'Tubers 😆. Why was that woman carrying a plastic bag full of bricks onto the marshrutka?

      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад +1

      @Norn Iron76 Thank you! We really enjoyed the adventure of travelling by marshrutka... they might not be as comfortable as big buses but there's always a lot going on :) When you go to Komrat, try to make it for the wine festival in November as it's such a great day even for nondrinkers! Hahhha... well spotted re: the heavy shopping bags!

      Hi, Lee here. I gotta say, the reason we went to Gagauzia is because we learnt about it from watching the Geography Now episode on Moldova on RUclips. Such an awesome channel that often inspires us to visit some of the more out of the way places. I totally recommend you watch it. 😁

      @Weihs Reinhold They're certainly an amazing workhorse, the Mercedes Sprinter... we travelled on so many of them during our 2 years in Eastern Europe and the former USSR! It's great to hear that your old Sprinter is still going strong!

    We love browsing supermarkets in a new country - seeing a Sheriff and the goods on offer there would be nice. Perhaps one day...
    Being that this was in 2019, do you remember if the wine from Comrat was sweet or dry?

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад

      @A Couple of Drifters I love wandering around supermarkets as well - it's a great way to learn new things about a country, and try delicious food! Unfortunately the security guards and staff were ever vigilant in the supermarkets in Tiraspol and I wasn't able to take any photos/videos there. No matter how surreptitious I was, I got spotted every time I pointed my phone at anything, so gave up in the end! The food from the deli section was fresh and tasty, with loads of delicious salads and dishes - I'm sure you'd love it!
      I remember that wine quite clearly! It was slightly sweet and fizzy, so it was far too easy for us to drink the 1.5lt bottle and suffer for it the next day! There were so many other varietals on sale at the Gagauzia wine festival - this just happened to be the cheapest option :D

    Hi Lee I I'm very interested in this trip to Moldova, did you enter from Ukraine? The reason I am asking is that I am a member of the travel century club, I pitched your channel on there forum and two members have been asking related questions, as you have done it recently you will have more updated knowledge than anyone else.
    Any help is appreciated

      Hello Patrick. Mandy here. Thank you for mentioning us to the travel century club. This trip was in November 2019... we crossed from Romania to Moldova, went down to Gagauzia, over to Tiraspol then back to Chisinau, all over the course of 4 weeks, and all by public transport.
      We're taking this opportunity of being in lockdown in Portugal to finally catch up with all the footage that we hadn't yet edited and made videos of... we're travellers, who've come late to vlogging, so you'll see that our videos will be improving as we learn more of the tips and techniques :))

      @@FrugalTravellers Hi Mandy, if this damn lockdown lasts much longer all the travel bloggers will run out of material lol
      So many are doing as you are a catching up. I said to Lee that this channel and your travels are outstanding, and for that reason I'm trying to promote it on every forum I am a member of, hopefully it gets you some views and subs.

      @@patrickjones1143 Hi Patrick. Lee here. We took a local bus from Cluj Napoca in Romania to Chisinau to get to Moldova. The information will be on this video...
      ruclips.net/video/cue0misrxHs/видео.html
      We documented quite a bit of our travels around that region so if there is any other information required, we should be able to help. It was pre Covid so can't really say what the situation is at the moment.
      As Mandy is so prolific with the camera, we are always behind with putting out videos. We must have at least 50 to catch up on. 😆. I'm working on Astana, Kazakhstan right now.
      Thanks so much for the promo. Thoroughly appreciated! 👍

    What an adventure! I think the new editing software has worked really well by the way! Do you find when going to lesser travelled locations you need to scrub up on the local language before you arrive or get by okay translating things while you’re there?

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад +2

      @Henri Sadler Thank you for your kind comment ! I struggled with the whole learning process but feel more comfortable going into the next video :)
      We'd definitely recommend learning at least the Cyrillic alphabet before going to any of the former USSR or Soviet Bloc countries, as many words are familiar, just look completely different, such as ресторан. Lee loves languages so studied Turkish, Bulgarian, and Romanian on Duolingo before going to those countries. He also studied Polish for the 4 months we were in lockdown in Krakow AND has just finished Level 5 in Duolingo Portuguese! I'm not as motivated - I use Google Translate to get by :)
      What's your approach to learning languages whilst travelling?

    • @MrGuitarist79
      @MrGuitarist79 3 года назад

      @@FrugalTravellers That’s really good to know thanks! And wow, Lee is smashing it with the Duolingo, he’s the polyglot man! I’ve been fortunate that everywhere I’ve been the English levels been pretty good and it’s been too easy to rely on that, but when in Spain I’ve always tried to speak Spanish as I’ve studied it for a good few years. Keen to go somewhere really out of my comfort zone where that English knowledge isn’t there though, will have to give Duolingo a try!

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 года назад +1

      @Henri Sadler I forgot to mention that Lee also speaks basic French and advanced Spanish - not quite fluent, but pretty good :) He really enjoys Duolingo - it's so much better now with Stories and animated characters... and the leagues and other things introduced to make language learning fun!
      Lee had so many opportunities to practice his Portuguese in Porto but is finding it difficult to speak Portuguese in the Algarve, as the locals all speak excellent English!
      We're thinking of going to Central or South America next, which will be the encouragement I need to improve my Spanish & will enable Lee to become fluent :)

    refrain from visiting the territory of transnistria, in the village of kolbasna it is possible that self-detonation of the shells stored there is possible, Russia does not resolve the issue of their disposal, do not risk your lives!

    • @vickru2133
      @vickru2133 3 года назад

      If the arsenal in Kolbasna explodes it will wipe half of Transnistria and towns around Moldova and Ukraine that borders Transnistria. Beirut would seem like child play compared to what the time bomb is waiting in kolbasna.

      Thank you for mentioning this! I just searched online and found articles about the huge weapon depots there. We only went to Tiraspol and Bender, and would definitely go back there. We met friendly people, stayed in a great hostel and absolutely love the architecture! The food was delicious as well.
