Great video. Thanks for doing it.
    Now for the critics...
    1) Enough of the Dam jokes.
    2) Too much drama.
    3) Enough with the James Bond stuff.

Hell of a video! My girlfriend and I did the power plant tour a couple of years ago, but we were pissed that the dam tour wasn't available that day. This is so beyond what we would've seen if the dam tour was open. Thanks so much for posting this, and I'm very glad you got to see all of that in person.

My dad was a Millwright and was called several times to perform the installation of those Turbines. He came out of retirement a couple times to help when there were issue with the installs and finally told them to hire someone who could retain the information. It would be pretty awesome to do a tour similar to what you just did myself.

Did a tour in 1986 and saw everything shown in this video. After 9/11, the tour was shortened quite a bit for obvious reasons. Very fascinating structure for something built during the Depression. When you are in the penstock tunnel, it is noisy from the water rushing through those large pipes and the whole room shakes.

My mother's father was a Master Carpenter who worked on the dam. Fred Knott. My father's older brother was the Master Machist who installed the bearings for the water turbines. Quentin Bengtson. You will find their names in the big book the park ranger has.

It is absolutely AMAZING that man was able to build this especially during the time period they did it. I know a few people died during the construction but it is still absolutely jaw dropping the sheer size and magnitude of it all.

This tour was EPIC! Wow. Thant was wonderful that you were given the privilege of filming this. A thousand times, thank you, Justin.. You are funny and imaginative and still the best tour guide ever. The father and son team were knowledgeable and kind and it showed that they enjoyed your company. Great job!

It's such a shame that since 9/11, we can't do the tour any more. I can honestly say that one thing we don't get in the video is the thundering power sound of the water rushing through the penstocks. I can remember being in that visitor room on top of the large penstock (for the now-closed tour) and just wanting to get the heck out of there from the thundering sound and horrible vibration of the power of the water rushing through. It was scarier than the thought of all the water behind the dam. Mike and Erik did a good job with Justin and gave us something we can't see much any more. Big thanks to everyone!

I've been on that tour multiple times with a friend who worked there. Certainly an experience to not forget. It's too bad they didn't take you down to the bottom of the generating units. The area down there reminds me of the basement area on Tower of Terror. Another fun part is walking the entire length of the lower penstock and turning off the lights to see how dark it is. There's also some random phone that someone threw on top of the pipe and it's been sitting there for an unknown number of years. At the end of the penstock hall there this creepy area with chairs and benches and a bunch of tools from the original construction.
Other areas that would have been cool to see is the staircase that goes from the bottom to the top at a 45 degree angle ( not the spiral one you saw), and getting to walk out to the main spillway gates that are hung with giant chain links. There's a gate they have to go through that requires them to call security to keep guards with very large guns from showing up!

IMO, the guide and his son were VERY accomodating and gracious with this idiot man/child! I have been a Stationary Steam Engineer all my life, making electricity with boilers and steam turbines. I was in Vegas around 1975 and took the dam tour. I was so impressed I even went to the power company headquarters and asked about getting a job there. They liked my skills and experience, and when we got down to money, they couldn't come close to what I was being paid at Detroit Edison. Oh well, nice memory.
