It's a real problem with Symphony X covers, when starting recording you're all pumped and motivated, but after a while and 15 tries later it's really hard to stay concentrated. Whats most annoying are fuck-ups AFTER the last solo :D You know, the rest was perfect and you're just like glad I got that solo done...and then you fuck up some stupid rythm part! :D
lol yes and if u fuck this last rythm part the people gonna forget all the perfect start and solos and tell u failed haha...

Just master you technique and mechanical skills, is just a stage, then other stage can be master the tone etc, takes a relative time but is necessary to have the basics, with musical knowledge and a good background of technique I learn this song in just 15 min, because is more easy, but not the solos, that solos are freakin fast and really challenging, Im working on them now, is just a matter of time, patient, and work/practice. Hope takes no too much longer :p, I will upload when I achieve that brutal speed -.-

I remember timo tolkki said back in 1997, that 'every kid nowadays can play like we can, so its useless to try anymore.' hmm.. Now we time travel to 200*, and these kids have guitar pro and tabulatures. very accurate notes even from the most underground bands. I'm glad that we only had our ears.. and shitty CD player of c-cassette that we rewind tens of times to catch that solo accurately.
+ZZombyWooff In fact I've moved away from learning songs by tabs since 3 or 4 years. It's just way more beneficial to learn songs by ear, and it's much more fun anyway! And also much more reliable, as there are so many falsely written tabs out there.
At some point if some new album comes out or you want to learn some really underground stuff you can't even find tabs, so I figured I'd just go with making learning songs by ear my standard.

What amps are you using if you don't mind me asking? How are you getting that crisp modern metal tone?
Recording solely through my POD X3 Live, most of the good tone comes by mixing it afterwards though, you know.
taking out some frequencies of the original to make the live guitar stick out better and stuff ;)
In fact almost all of my vids are recorded with the same tone, but everyone sounds different nonetheless through mixing it to suit the sound of the original song.

echt krass, dass du das solo kannste, der rest geht ja noch. kann zwar auch schon von necrophagist nen solo, aber das ist ja nochmal ne ecke härter, wovon der tapping part ja noch der einfachste ist. mal ne frage: wenn man wie du vom skill her alles im metalbereich spielen kann, ist es dann trotzdem noch ne herausforderung sachen von gilbert, malmsteen und so zu lernen ? und nach wieviel jahren konntest du sowas wie dieses hier spielen ?
Kann man find ich schlecht vergleichen, es ist einfach anders, Sachen von Necrophagist zu lernen ;) Alles kann ich nicht spielen, ich kann nur versuchen mich so lange hinzusetzen bis ichs drauf hab. Und es gibt noch n Haufen andere Sachen, bei denen ich mir immer wieder was neues draufschaffen muss
