I'm a huge fan of The Foreign Exchange and this interview is simply fantastic. 'Connected' is that type of album that you never get tired of listening to!
Huge fan of FE. "Authenticity" was THAT album. I have so much love for that album. I really thought that was going to be the game changer for populsr music. Darn radio. 😂 Phonte, the "Outta of My Head" track on the latest EP, bruh, 😮. Absolutely beautiful. Shout out to Phonte and Big Pooh on the doc and the doc's awards. Well deserved. Also shout out to FE's "The Grey" and gorgeous Sade cover. I've also been a big fan of Phonte's features. Busy dude the last year. Mad respect. 🔥✊🏼
I discovered Foreign Exchange from a Topic on the Lesson Board discussing Beautiful HipHop tracks, and Nic's Groove was suggested. I decided to check it out because most of the suggestions where songs I loved, and when I did, it was indeed Beautiful.
I made two life-long friends on Okayplayer Boards. I also got hipped to some underground Tonex music through the boards, which led to meeting some other life-long friends thru Tonex's fan club.....all from the Boards
FOREIGN EXCHANGE IS ONE THE GREATEST GROUPS EVER, MAN WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE DURING THE 2000'S THEY HAD A HELLUVA RUN !!!!!! BETTER, HOUSE OF CARDS, I WANNA KNOW, TALES FROM THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY, CLASSICS. TIMELESS !!!!!
Still remember the high of seeing them live and then dapping Nicolay up after a show in Austin. Thank you to both these brothers for soundtracking my late nights and early mornings.
The influence of Stevie Wonder's "The Secret Life Of Plants" was very apparent on The Foreign Exchange album "Authenticity". Oddly enough, the cover has a picture of plants...maybe that was intentional. Also, speaking of Okayplayer: I noticed that a poster from General Discussion was the love interest in the video for the first single "Maybe She'll Dream Of Me".
❤❤❤❤I've been to so many of their concerts, meet them, and will be seeing them in Durham. Such wonderful, down to earth and talented people ❤️ ♥️ 💕 💖 Thank you for blessing us with your music ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for this awesome interview we have some of the greatest musicians chopping it up how cool is this i have great respect for all of your incredible music
I remember being in Tower Records on West 4th and Broadway I'm 2004. The listening station in that store was a sanctuary for me. I saw the cover of Connected and said "What IS this?" Then I started listening. By the time I got to Nic's Groove I said "I gotta cop this." Dope interview. Amazing that they still collab remotely despite touring together. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
Dear Questlove, Do you have any plans to interview Pete Philly & Perquisite? Also, hearing you and the team interview Oddisee and K-Os would be a dream come true for us underground millenials.
Huge fan here, there's GOTTA be a part 2!! Their story is SO unique and never gets old! wish they could've briefly talked about how the Hot At Nights started or became involved as well with the FE movement..great interview! ..and AGAIN, Secret Life of Plants was a WHOLE experience, my world was rocked when I first heard the album!
Love this interview. Speaking on Stevie Wonder’s “Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants”… I liken that misunderstanding/let-down that many fans & critics experienced to that of Andre 3000’s “New Blue Sun” album. The confusion and disappointment is very reminiscent to the Stevie Wonder effect spoke of at the 10:05 mark. The personal insults to the artist as well as those to the recording appear very similar to me.
ALL those Nicolay City Lights joints - Vol 1, 1.5, 2 and 3. When are they going to be made available on vinyl format? EDIT: AND The Dutch Masters Vol. 1
I brought Connected and it came wit 2 other albums 9th Wonder presents Dream Merchant vol. 1 and the Away team National Anthem 3 very dope album. Justus League
Thank you for this interview it was 🔥 I hope in the future do a interview with some of my favorite artists Sy Smith, Deborah Bond, N'dea Davenport, and Raheem Devaughn. If not thats cool, love the podcast. Keep up the great work yall.
Tanya Morgan, City Lights, Little Brother. A great place to discover music and meet like-minded individuals.
Great examples, and wholeheartedly agree.
I wonder if Eric Roberson has been on here before???.
I'm a huge fan of The Foreign Exchange and this interview is simply fantastic. 'Connected' is that type of album that you never get tired of listening to!
