Actually not really, FIA world rallies are having tickets and there are no free passes to anyone, at least in Estonia every rally has been costing if its smaller rally then bit less and if just some casual public competitions they are usually free but high competition rallies are usually not free to go on stages not sure about every country tho.
@@glooock3841 Yes, but it is depending on the country. In most west and central European countries you can watch FIA (and any other rally event) for free. I don't know about events on other continents. The organizers do operate spectator zones and official parking zones where you have to pay and they do sell tickets. But you can always walk to any spot to watch it for free (except specifically designated spectator zones), because they race on public roads and public roads can't be blocked from the public. I've heard that this is impossible in Finland - but I've never been there myself. Now you told us, that it's also not possible in Estona. Good to know.

Until you've seen a WRC car at full chat nothing prepares you for for just how quick they're going, they look fast on film but in the flesh it's something else. Rally drivers, in my book, stand head and shoulders above all other disciplines.

One of the best Christmas presents my wife ever bought me was a rally school weekend in Mid Wales We drove a mark 1 Ford Escort full prepped and raced by the instructor on the RAC rally , there was 8 of us on the course and we where taught the basic skills of driving the car On the Sunday we each raced against the clock on a forest track used by the instructor for his own training and had to use all the skills shown us 70mph through trees is a bonkers feeling 🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣

I had a 88 Celica GT4 just like the second car on this that went straight on. Loved it, utterly stable had to work to get it out of shape. Live in the Isle of Man so got to properly enjoy it. Blew the he@d gasket going up the mountain. Expensive ooops😢

personally for me the rally is at its best in sweden, finland and norway since there is mostly done in the forest not around open fields and its even better when its winter
5:43 - the one guy running on the wrong side... when they're all on one side, it can be flipped back easily... Done it before with a Puegeot 206 that flipped over. Got the driver out, flipped it back and then waited for a tow truck.
4:02 rally spectators aren’t just there for show…other racing has pit crews, rally has stage crews(the fans) that work for the love of the sport instead of just drivers, teams or manufacturers they like
More than just the images, this WRC season was one of the best in years. Thierry Neuville who was runner-up 5 times before and had never managed to win the title, finally won his first title and in a dramatic way. They got to the last round with Neuville and Tanak still in the fight and during the first 16 stages (out of 21) of the rallying Neuville was having problems with his turbo and fell down to p17 while Tanak was winning all the stages. After the 16th stage Neuville fixed his turbo problem and managed to comeback to P7... on the 19th stage Tanak rolled over in his run and Neuville was finally declared champion for the first time. Unfortunately Tanak's crash took away Hyundai's chance of winning their first constructors' title tho.
Round 10 of WRC 2025 is Rally del Paraguay 28 - 31 August and then round 11 is Rally Chile Bio Bío 11 - 14 September, it shouldn't be too hard for you to organise a family trip to South America (Paraguay or Chile), I'm sure Andrew will love seeing the rally cars live too, and as Danni speaks Spanish you should have plenty of fun as a family, just need some team Škoda shirts for you and Andrew.....
World Rally Championship is supposed to be running in the USA, from 2028. I don't know where in the states its being run.... you'd have to look into it
I hope it takes off. The US is ideal for rally, they've got pretty much every type of terrain and environment. There are single states you could host an entire championship in and have everything from desert to snow.
The ARA has been getting a little bigger over the years. Hopefully it keeps it up. Some states stopped letting them use parts of the initial courses though due to the “speeds” like Maine. Even rallycross events through car associations in some areas have been hard due to it.

@@Z4G. It would be ideal but due to their litigious culture and no tradition of legal street racing it'll be a hard sell. In Europe and most other places there is a cultural understanding that this sport is unsafe and any spectators understand the risks and are responsible for their own safety. Unless the organisers have sold you a ticket and given you a designated safe viewing spot they have absolutely no obligation to keep you safe. So if you're sitting at the apex of a turn trying to get a great picture and one of these monsters punts you through a tree it's your own damned fault and no one else has to pay your medical bills
i had once a to fast drunk can't stop accident. Hitted my over neighbourg's house and slammed into his house. I was in the living room in their house at 3 at night. Been 15 years now. Since then i never drink and drive again. Was bad period in my life but learned from it.
Just as Conal said for a good day's rally watching you need to plan your route. get to your first choice stage. watch the cars you want to see through. Then go back to your car and head to your next stage to watch the lead cars through and so on. One time in Corsica we were in the Fiat Panda hire car going down a steep tarmac road between view-points approaching a hairpin right and the ground started shaking, Colin McRae came past in the Subaru changed down for the hairpin and drifted round right in front of us. And you see rally cars on highway sections between stages just cruising along with you on a regular basis. You need to do it.

2:54 It was less unlucky, more driver error. The rule with bumps and jumps that have a very high potential to skip the rear end like that, is to brake before but then accelerate through the jump. The reason you accelerate through the jump (accelerating before the jump and as you hit it), is because it straightens the suspension out and flattens the car in the air. This will result in a flat landing, meaning no suspension is overcompressed. Here, you see that he brakes before the bump. This means that when he hits the bump, the weight is transferred to the front of the car, and he goes through the air slightly tilted forward. In turn, this means that when he lands, the front gets heavily compressed, then the rear of the car hits the ground and compresses. The problem, is that WHILE the rear is compressing, because the front landed first, the front suspension REBOUNDS. This leads to the rear going down, and the front going up, and I'm not sure why, but some physicist can tell you why after that, the car will jump in the rear, and cause a loss of traction. Not only this, but the weight is transferred to the back really quickly, which will probably result in a loss of traction either way. ---- I may be wrong about this analysis, though maybe his rear suspension was just too hard, or there wasn't enough clearance, or he overcompressed the rear suspension. Or maybe the fast rebound on his dampers were too stiff... I dont know. Still, unfortunate.

They clearly had to rebuild the car internally / get a new car after each of them. Such a shame and a destruction of childhood dreams once you understand it.

Hi Ian, there is a serious project to have a WRC round in US. I hope it will happen and you do a video live from a stage, it would be amazing to have by you the feeling of the first time. I went in several motorsport events, including F1 GP in V10 era, 24h of Le Mans several times, but nothing is like Rallys and Hillclimbs, you're so close to the cars, it's another level, you can feel the adrenaline push in your body.

Hi Ian, there is a serious project to have a WRC round in US. I hope it will happen and you do a video live from a stage, it would be amazing to have by you the feeling of the first time. I went in several motorsport events, including F1 GP in V10 era, 24h of Le Mans several times, but nothing is like Rallys and Hillclimbs, you're so close to the cars, it's another level, you can feel the adrenaline push in your body.
You don't drift with front wheel drive, your tush is getting dragged and swinging out ... proper involuntary too XD
