Post-Punk sounds with the Hooky Raider from Eastwood

- I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new Hooky Raider guitar from Eastwood. This is Eastwood's recreation of the iconic Shergold Masquerader that was used by Bernard Sumner in his Joy Division days. The perfect opportunity for me to bring you some post-punk sounds and maybe even a couple of JD riffs. This is a sponsored video, but I'm never told what to say, and all opinions are my own. Vote for Day of the Lords lesson, especially getting that live sound.
Yep, plus one for that 👍
Yes, yes, yes
Yes please!!!!
that first riff is immense
Gary Marx of the SIsters of Mercy also played a Shergold like this.
I guessed how many tones or pickup configurations on this fine guitar. There are 3 pickup tones in the bridge position...9 pickup configs in the middle position...3 in the neck for a total of 15 pickup configurations. The when you factor in the tone knob along with volume settings then there is a lot of tone!🥰
Thank you so much for this video …. I have an original Shergold Masquerader and couldn’t always get my head around the different permutations of the switches …. Now I can
Great guitar, and I used it in a post punk band in the 90s
Fantastic demo. Being a fan of this kind of sounds, makes me want to buy the guitar right now.
It is so nice he is demoing songs and sounds that I enjoy listening to and playing. Males it really special. That opening riff he played is exactly the sound and style I am looking for when I play and record. I'm an Elder Goth :)
I'm really into Eastwood guitars aesthetically, they really are spot on with their vintage replicas.
Fantastic, fantastic guitar playing as always Adrian.
This guitar sounds incredible. Love the looks, tones and historical re-creation. And of course Adrian’s playing and demo is just the best. Loved the opening track
It's really bold of Eastwood to do this style of replicas of old disappeared models.
But it allows fans to recapture the sound of their nostalgia.
Great demo!
I've been frequenting your content for a while now (usually every Friday), and I love the vibe and your style (and, of course, I'm a boomer who thanks to you is reliving his youthful loves!).
Thank you, love this , explained everything in terms I can understand , I can see how much you’re enjoying this guitar. As a huge JD fan, I’m loving this ❤️
Awesome demo! Thanks again and again!
I'd love one of those ever since I saw Bernard Sumner playing one on Shadowplay on the famous tv appearance. Why is it a Hooky signature model when he played bass?
The Eastwood Hooky Series is a tribute to the original Shergold instruments which were a core part of Joy Division and New Order's iconic sound.
Loved the guitar, loved the sound, loved the effects
Sounds really great! Home of my favourite guitar demos.
Beautiful clean tones blending pickup options.
I'm not at all familiar with Shergold guitars and stopped by to check things out!! WOW!! Loved the first part of the demo greatly!! The neck looks exceptionally wide at the nut, something that I've often thought would be a PLUS for stubby hands like mine!! LOL!! Many thanks for a great demo!!!!
Love the versatility. Great sounds!
Sounds great. Excellent job.
You are a joy to watch and listen too. 👍
Great job.
Joy Division is my favourite band of all time and post-punk most favourite music genre. ✌🏼😊
Love the guitar, the playing and the review 👌
😎🎙🎸✅
Merry Christmas Adrian🎄☃️ thanks for all the work you put into these vids
awh heck, thanks Adrian, this one's now on my list, great video
I absolutely love that first song you played, I have that part of your video on repeat since yesterday! Would be great if you could do a video on that. I'm a patreon supporter but would pay for that track if it were available on bandcamp or something like that (if it's an original composition?)
Eastwood have done a great job with those pickups and switching options, was really pleasantly surprised by the tapped sounds as they can generally be a bit naff, but here they were totally useable. The balance seemed really good when played in the middle position too. The tonality of this guitar + the AC30 reminded me at times in this demo a lot of Frank Black's sound with The Pixies when he was playing that weird white Fender Telecaster with the humbuckers and Floyd Rose. Seemed to work really well with Alnico speakers, I think that definitely played a part in brining out the best of this instrument.
god, now i want a lesson on that demo you played at the beginning. so good.
Thats a sweet sounding guitar, you got some great tones out of it :D
Wow! What a phenomenal guitar! Hopefully available in a lefty! Reminds me of my G&L ‘fallout’ that has split humbuckers and a p90, also marketed as a ‘post punk guitar’
Cracking demo.
Awesome stuff!
Well that rocked the hell out!!!
Love it!
I wasn't paying close enough attention when you got your second 100,000 subscribers. Congratulations!
Awesome demo.
Great playing man
Wonderful sounds and playing! How did I miss this guitar from Eastwood?
missed this when it came out, sounds great
Hooky has just tweeted about the new 4 string hooky bass today. I just read about it after watching this earlier today.
Eastwood don’t pay you enough for your demos this is best guitar web demo I’ve seen. I’m sold, I want. Made a complex pickup config easy to understand and boy do I see now what a unique guitar this is. BTW love the opening track, any chance putting the backing track on your Patreon, maybe with a PDF tab (I’m lazy). Merry Xmas!
Great channel m8, it's refreshing to find a host who doesn't feel the need to act like children's program presenter in full cartoon character mode. Don't change!
Plus every time I go looking to find a tune I wanna learn, you just happen to have the one I'm looking for.....I mean.....In a gadda de vida.....done.....These days.....done.....on top of that a Joy Division fan......
Subscribed.
New favourite channel.
Thanks m8 😉👍
I'll second that. Many guitar-related videos are unwatchable because the hosts are so obnoxious. And this demo was wonderful!
I dig your playing man, new sub here!
Also used by Gary Marx in the Sisters of Mercy. :)
Man you got some good Eastwood connections! Hope you can do a video on the Sharkbite when it comes out in the summer.
Perfect. Very nice sweet.
That guitar looks cool as hell.
Very nice. Hooky is a rather playful name for a guitar associated with Sumner ^^
The Eastwood Hooky Series is a tribute to the original Shergold instruments which were a core part of Joy Division and New Order's iconic sound.
Very Nice, good sir!
would love to get a lesson for the first song you played. fantastic!
I love the stuff you played at the beginning. Is that all your original composition? I'd love a lesson on it.
Me too, that was really good
@@alexandrecayres7731 with both hands for lesson!
Awesome demo. I could tell you were channeling Bernard Summer, but there was a bit of Cardiacs going on there and some early Sisters of Mercy.
Great video cool guitar. I wondered if you had heard, Mother Ghia, by Stratovarious?. Great song. Thanx for this love your tutorials.
I am trying to understand from the comments if the song you played at the start is a cover or an original of yours.... well I have just learned to play it because it's one of the best things I have heard in a while!!
I would be aghast at a Dead Souls tutorial. Love you videos
The opening riff reminded me of another post-punk band, The Sound.
Nice guitar.
Holy hell that sound is amazing. I may be buying this guitar this week! What pedal are you using here because that sound is bloody incredible!
Friken awesome!
Great !!!!
Hello Adrian
Very cool Review/Demo. But sadly you forgott the most important Part of it: "How to explain your wife that you need a new guitar because you watched Adrians new video."
🤣👍
Greetings from Germany
BTW: if i was right there are 15 possible sounds with the switches 🤔
I thought it was a Shergold, looks & sounds great.
No one comes close to your versatility; nobody! Big fan here. You could do classical if you wanted; why not! LOL Merry Christmas! 🎄⛄
Holy Toggle Switches Batman!!! POW!!!!
your demo reminded me of Sad Lovers & Giants
discovered SL&G last night. absolute rad band.
The Rubettes used them too.
🤘
The guitar sounds great. I enjoyed the music too. This is a band I had never heard of.
Just received the email from Eastwood about this guitar as I bought a Hooky six string bass from them last year. I've owned a Shergold that the Raider is based on, and it was a great guitar if a little bit heavy. Would love to try Eastwood's take on it.
How did you like the Hooky bass? Is it pretty good quality?
@@satiresam7 I found it very good. Given the unusual features I think they had to get almost everything especially made, such as the bridge and pickup, which are very high quality. The setup was spot on as well, straight out of the box.
Joy Division Riffs!
Holy fuck that post punk demo track
Very enjoyable! Tell me Adrian, did you play the bass parts? It's a great sound. Can I ask what bass/pickup & amp it is? With a pick/plectrum? Tia.
Touch of Sad Lovers & Giants. ;)
The Shergold Marathon Bass VI that Hooky played throughout Closer and every NO album is essentially a slightly longer-scale version of the Masquerader tuned a whole octave down. I believe it was Barney who recommended he get one.
I’ve wanted an Eastwood Hooky Bass for a bit but now I’m torn between that and this.
Solution? Get both!
@@eastwoodguitarsofficial exactly what I’m planning to do! Was about to get the hooky 6 bass, but I might play the 4 more. Now with this too…the only problem with which colors?!? My problem is I often end up buying them all!! 🤣😁😂
By the way, love my purple Mad Cat!! Stay tuned for my review video!🤘😜👍
@@AndrewBonicaRR First world problems, right? Ha! Perhaps the white bass, since the Raider is black or black so they match? Tag us on your Mad Cat video so we can check it out!
@@eastwoodguitarsofficial absolutely will do!!! I’m no RJ Ronquillo though!!! He rocks! 🤘😜 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! 🎄🎅☃️
Take my money!
What was that song he played at the start? Was it Joy Division or just a demo on yhe guitar?
I don't think it's a JD song.
I think it’s a trial of 15 different sounds. 3 for each individual pickup (6 in total) and 3*3=9 when they are combined.
Hi, can you define the intro guitar effect from Gimme Shelter by Sisters of Mercy? I never heard this particular effect from any pedals that I know.
What was that first riff you started to play round about 30 seconds in? Phenomenal stuff.
As if your playing wasn't enough, your recording game is top notch as well.
Hey I ♡ your videos so much!!!!!!! Plz plz tell me how to replicate lead sound starting at 1:47 this sound I've wanted 4 so many years
What is that first tune that you played? Is there a lesson on it? :)
Love the modified single coil sound. Keeps the single coil vibe minus the twang. Don’t love the extended headstock with cheesy Hooky graphic. Reminds me of the Slick guitars logo.
That Hooky graphic is terrible, absolutely awful.
whats the song at the beginning?
15 variations 😁
Sounds great - but why isn't it the Barney Raider?
I have an original Shergold Custom Masqueradar, studio mate has a 12 string version and one of my old band mates has a Meteor. They are still very affordable and great guitars. Just dont get why people would go for the Eastwood if an original could be bought for 500 ish euro's (if lucky). 1200 seems steep.
How do you feel about the overall quality and workmanship? Does it hold a tune well?
Still waiting for Marksman V going on two years.
👍😱😎😱👍
I definitely want to be able to get a good post-punk sound WITHOUT PEDALS but just with a good versatile amp setup. I don’t want to play with any pedals at all.
What kind of synth was that in the background?
It sounds ok but I hate zero frets which are usually used to get away with having a break angle on the headstock and thus saving time and money
13:01 what is this riff - it's killing me.
How much cost the guitar?
I’ve never been able to figure out quite what that guitar sound was. Delay maybe…
Delay, distortion, and phase shifting
Peter Hook, not Bernard Sumner
how much?
Chameleonsesque
LARP
Nice copy but £1400?
Not gonna lie, i am NOT a fan of that body design 🤣. Im sure it plays nicely though, Eastwoods are pretty decent guitars quality-wise.
Have you found that they stay in tune well?
@@satiresam7 Yeah just like any guitar... As long as the nut is cut properly, the tuners are working as they should, and the strings are wrapped correctly, they'll stay tuned just fine. I've never had any tuning issues with Eastwood guitars.
