- Police searching for missing teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife are appealing for expert volunteers to help with a “massive search” on Saturday.
The 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared following an attempt to walk back to his accommodation on June 17.
On Friday, the Guardia Civil appealed for volunteer associations, such as firefighters, and individual volunteers who were experts in rugged terrain to assist in a “busqueda masiva”, or massive search, to take place on Saturday.
The Spanish police force said the search, which will begin at 9am in the village of Masca, near to his last-known location, would be coordinated to take in a steep rocky area, including ravines, trails and paths.
The announcement came as searches for the apprentice bricklayer entered a 12th day.
Mr Slater attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before his disappearance and his last known location was the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island - which was about an 11 hour walk from his accommodation.
On Friday, Mr Slater’s friend Brad Hargreaves told ITV’s This Morning he had been on a video call with him before his disappearance when he heard him go off the road.
He said: “He was on the phone walking down a road and he’d gone over a little bit - not a big drop - but a tiny little drop and he was going down, and he said ‘I’ll ring ya back, I’ll ring ya back’ because I think someone else was ringing him.”
He confirmed he could see his friend’s feet “sliding” down the hill and could hear he was walking on gravel.
But, Mr Hargreaves said he and his friend were both laughing at that point.
He added: “He didn’t seem concerned on the phone until we knew how far away he was.”
He told the programme he still had hope for Mr Slater and was “praying” for him to come home.

Never to be heard from again. Check out how many foreigners under the age of 40 have just vanished from Tenerife since 2000. It’s abnormal the amount of times this has happened & it’s only because of the news we are finding out about this case but it happens nearly every month or so. Remember this is his first time travelling abroad also so you certainly don’t just get into a car at 5am to drive 40 miles away when you have a lovely hotel just a couple miles away. Especially in the frame of mind he must’ve been in after a 3 day bender.

Brad with his rehearsed script made sure to cover all the important details to prove he can confirm Jay was in that park. video call, not phone call so he could confirm he saw him go off the road, heard him walking on gravel, witnessed him fall and most importantly got him to turn his location on to let him know where he was. The reason that's so important is because his location will not have been tracked until he got into the park and he is bearing witness that it was done in front of him to dispel any speculation that it was someone else who took his phone there. They have it all covered. It's a SCAM

The police in Tenerife aren’t going to want it to be anything involving drugs and/or violence. It’s lives off its tourism, I wouldn’t want to take my family to somewhere where I was worried about bad drug deals and violence. Very bad news for their tourist industry & therefore their economy.
Exactly why this search is getting all this attention and why they’re still looking. They want the tourists to think it’s a safe place to still go on holiday but they already know the problems with that area he’d been clubbing in for 3 nights. They probably know what most likely happened but they can’t do anything about it. ✌️

At this time, in these circumstances, it doesn't matter how Jay lived his life, good guy, bad guy. What matters is he is found. He has parents, family, friends and they do deserve closure, they need to know what has happened to their Son for him to be missing.
Hes 19 ..has no clue about where he is and has no.water with him ..he's hung over and has no experience of hiking, navigation or climbing and he's wandering around lost in a landscape he has absolutely no idea how to survive in.
There are Egyptian vultures present there so if he was laying out exposed in the open their presence would give a clue where he is ..the fact that they're not hanging around means he's tucked out of sight...My guess is he was already suffering the first effects of dehydration when he was speaking to the girl on the phone..as the days got hotter he's blundered off the edge of a drop off and he's jammed up behind some scrub..personally i think they need to check the sides of the steep gorge which runs to the ocean its around 1km from his last confirmed locationand ..its about 2.5km following it to the coast and in a confused and desperate state he would probably make for the ocean rather than try to walk inland..i don't think the Spanish police are that organised for this type of thing compared to Mountain Rescue here..usually here they'll locate and recover a body in a few hours even in the hardest winter weather here ..its never longer than 24 hours..

There was an Irish person who vanished a few years ago in Tenerife,i believe he was staying close to where this chap was staying aswel.He had wandered off after a night out and vanished,went the wrong direction,his body wasnt found until two years later.He had falling down a ravine or something so maybe thats what actually has happened here
He was found six months later deceased 🙏 and has been laid to rest in Ireland.

I think people are getting a bit fed up now. He should have been found ages ago. They know the route he took. He had no provisions, no water, no idea where he was, if anybody had seen him it would have been reported ASAP to authorities but nobody has. It is ONE BIG MYSTERY.
