Having Sharon Tate alive at the end to greet Rick with warmth definitely brought some tears in the theater. A lot of us older folks grew up with the Manson Family and the Tate murders and all of the press and court cases that followed for many years after.

As someone probably on the older end of your audience, I grew up when the Manson event took place. When Margot Robbie's voice comes out of the intercom at the end, it always brings tears to my eyes. Fantastic film, and QT best imo. I was fortunate enough to watch this IN Hollywood (at Mann's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Blvd). Amazing experience, will never forget it.

"I'm the devil" "No. It's something more dumb than that" That interaction made me laugh.

The Manson murders were like an open wound to those of us who were alive at the time, especially after the killers' death sentences were lessened to life imprisonment and the annual parole hearings began. This movie is a bit of a balm for that, although the fictional "happy" ending is incredibly bittersweet. For those of us who remember those times, Tarantino has added a ton of pop culture references, right down to offhand references to such names as Eddie O'Brien, Sam Wanamaker, and Andy McLaglan. When we first see the Manson girls dumpster diving, they're singing one of Charlie's songs, "Always Is Always Forever."

It is an excellent depiction of another time and space with likable characters the viewer can identify with. It mixes history and fiction well like Tarentino likes to do.

  • @wittgen80

I always cry at the end, because of I know, that ending just a fairy tale. This is a very good movie with good dialoges, scenes and perfect actings.

I was 6 years old in the summer of 1969 (about the same age as Tarantino). There were 4 unrelated historic events over four weeks that summer that resulted in multiple books, movies and documentaries. Chappaquiddick July 18, the Apollo 11 moon landing July 20, the Manson family Tate LaBianca killings August 9-10, and the Woodstock music festival August 15-18. The only one I don't remember hearing about when it happened is the Manson family killings, I was a military brat living on the east coast on Cape Cod, so of course the moon landing and Chappaquiddick were all over the news there.

  • @samcataldo4278

yes , the senseless deaths were sad at the time ...this movie reminds you how precious life is and how it should be that the bad should suffer and the innocent live on. i tear up with the end each time thinking of what should of been.

I cried when Brad won Academy Award for playing Cliff. I literally cried! I was just so happy for him . He’s had a long career and this was a very special performance . 🌠☑️

    "Is everybody okay?"

Hi Dasha, About the ice trays - anyone old enough to have lived through the 1960s (I was born in 1960) will remember them. They were made of aluminum, and when you pulled up on the handle, the panels that separated the ice cubes moved and broke the ice cubes free. They often did not work very well.

  • @robrobertson4619

You’re not “shallow” for not knowing about Charles Manson, your just young! I’m 65 years old and don’t know everything that happened back when I was an adolescent. The Charles Manson story and events are some scary stuff for sure!!! Love your reactions😉😁

  • @kevinmassey1164

It’s hard to recreate the feeling of not knowing how the movie ends as the final act starts to unfold.

  • @lukasmarsha6843

The most important thing for me is there is no one moment where we hear the name of Manson. No one, Tarantino made all his staff so unimportant without recording even his name. It's amazing.

  • @surfk9836

In real life there was stunt man named Shorty Shae who went to the Spahn Ranch and was murdered. So going into the ranch scene it was, "oh no Cliffs' gonna get it". But he drives off and it's a big relief. It's a small Once Upon a Time just like the big Once Upon a Time in the end where Sharon and her baby survive.

Tarantino's recreation of this era of Hollywood is honestly brilliant, his genuine love of film and the ability to capture the essence of an era really shines in this one.

  • @zephyr2five
