  • Operation Wuambushu has become bogged down and raised concerns of abuse, aggravating tensions between residents and immigrants from neighbouring the Union of the Comoros. It is also laying bare entrenched poverty. The operation was launched on April 24 for two months but is expected to be extended.

    The average annual income of Mayotte is not 3,500$ but 10,850$. About 8 times as much as Comoros. And that number is not nearly enough to explain the inequalities between the two... The advantages the people of Mayotte have for being French nationals and having EU passports when it comes to social services are enormous, and completely out of reach for those living in the impoverished Comoros. It´s sad but not surprising that the people of Mayotte want nothing to do with their neighbors...
