"We were keeping our eye on 1984. When the year came and the prophecy didn't, thoughtful Americans sang softly in praise of themselves. The roots of liberal democracy had held. Wherever else the terror had happened, we, at least, had not been visited by Orwellian nightmares. "But we had forgotten that alongside Orwell's dark vision, there was another - slightly older, slightly less well known, equally chilling: Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Contrary to common belief even among the educated, Huxley and Orwell did not prophesy the same thing. Orwell warns that we will be overcome by an externally imposed oppression. But in Huxley's vision, no Big Brother is required to deprive people of their autonomy, maturity and history. As he saw it, people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think. "What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions." In 1984, Orwell added, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we fear will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we desire will ruin us. "This book is about the possibility that Huxley, not Orwell, was right." From "Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business" by Neil Postman.

@@billydakid6127 That's awesome ! It's ok to put stuff on hold... those little people are the center of your world for quite some time!
I absolutely love this song and this band. Today's musicians have changed lot and sometimes it's great to hear music with deep meaning and in the older rock band styles. Les Claypool is one of my top bass players ever. Videos and sound, he is amazing.
Didn't think I'd wake up this morning to having Primus frizzle fry my brain with an 11min prog masterpiece. How is it that this band just gets better and better this far in?
A big part of it is Les didn't build his whole life on his music career. Dude has a whole life outside of music. A lot of super big bands would become desperate af when fame dwindled, and they'd make bad moves that forever ruined their reputation. Primus is different.
@Radigan lmfao what?
I can't stop listening!!! You are my biggest bass and vocalist inspiration!!! Love your music, and have been trying to see you life for so long!!! Hopefully next time you are in Maine I can see you perform!!
I saw them live the first time a few years ago. I cried when Southbound Phacyderm started.
Les Claypool for president
Seen em 5x!
The last time was A Tribute to Kings!
General admission, my favorite!
And I met Les, briefly, & got his autograph, before covid.
I was too wasted to stick around for Ler & Tim.

Cuz I was fπcked up! I always drive, that time I had a chauffeur!

Sweet! Reminds me of the Pink Floyd and Rush jam sessions, but still distinctly Primus.
That's what I thought my friend, the boys put so much self expression into their music, a lot of other bands need to take a page out of there book and not be influenced by radio play industry
yep clearly hear snippets of "Welcome to the Machine"

Checked to see if someone else had said it before I posted this exact comment. So true!
Yep rush and Pink Floyd is pretty spot on that’s what I immediately heard too

Pretty badass song. I haven't thought about Primus in a long time. Honestly didn't even know if they were still making albums. They take me back to the early 90's/ Jr. High/Highschool. This has a weird 70's vibe tho.
Just that little touch of 'Bridge Of Sighs' in the guitar?
Hear a bit of Jello Biafra type 'Prose' in the lyrics too.
And Pink Floyd. And Parliament Funkadelic.
I have her 🦫
Sorta Canterbury-esque maybe?
OH man, this sounds pretty nice!. It is the perfect mixture of RushPinkFloydKingCrimsoness that is so Primus. Good job boys! I will be listening to the on 4/22!
@Herb Wildey....me too! It's gonna rock! I live here in CR...where you comin from? Have you been to this venue before?
And it was grand!!
I was shown this song on the weekend, the first thing that came to my head was the feeling of amazement that I felt first time listening to King Crimson, I stand by my previous comment, best track Ive heard from our planet this century, its just so right for now too, Its also perfectly not too cryptic for those not so receptive to the problems of conspiranoia without the introspect to see it but not be able to see that. As an synth nerd that epic fat thick fm stab is butter and the mono analogue moogy sounding solo is just so perfect, the whole break slow verse come in time signature giving that theme, I cant get enough of this!
This is insanely good, it shows that you guys were jamming rush songs for the past year.
yeah I got major Rush vibes from this... even more than usual
A bit of Floyd too.
I thought the sand exact fucking thing!!!! It was the synthesizer that gave it away!

"This book is about the possibility that Huxley, not Orwell, was right."
