For the record, I have dozens of the subscriptions for outdoor channels and especially paddlers. I am forced to admit that you two have me captivated. There is an Elegance in the confidence of your skills and your passion for the outdoors and each other almost gives me chills. Please don't change anything that you are doing, it's perfect and thank you.
Loved your comment about not filming petroglyphs. Thank you for being so considerate to indigenous peoples. Love your channel and enjoy seeing your adventures.
It's a fair question John :) But the current elders explicitly request that people don't photograph them so we can only assume that they know best what the creators of the pictographs wanted. Erin and her mom are very educated on this subject and I'm only beginning to understand it, but part of the overarching historical (and current) problem is white people making assumptions or decisions for Indigenous folks instead of just consulting or trying to understand their POV
@@LostLakes Certainly if the descendants of the creators request that they not be photographed we should honor that request. My wife and I love your videos! Keep up the good work.
Thoroughly enjoyed part 2. This summer marks 20 years since my last visit to Quetico. Miss it greatly. I love your cutaways of things like the flowers, the moon, the underwater shots, wildlife and sunsets. I found it interesting that the loons didn't go underwater when you got so close. Whenever we got anywhere near them, they would duck (no pun intended) underwater and then pop up far away, I also love how you don't add any annoying music to your videos. I like hearing the sounds of Quetico, the waterfalls, the loons, the rain and thunder, the wind, the crunching as you hike the portages, the crackling of the campfire, your paddles gliding through the water, and simply the sounds of....nothing. I remember the quiet could be deafening. Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks a lot Alan! I use music sometimes, but I realize how polarizing it is, and in this series I wanted the sounds of nature to speak for themselves, so I tried to minimize the use. Sometimes it's necessary over video with no audio like drone footage or timelapses though
Frankly,I'min awe of the land and water you can access, and this trip....oh,and wait, the tens of thousands of hours you've spent cutting, splicing, chopping, melding in video......just absolutely amazing.
The morning mist, swans, loon, fish, mergansers "running", turtle, epic waterfall, sunrises/sunsets, and mostly flat water - wow to all of it. Thank you for sharing this fantastic adventure with us. 💜🛶🦢🐠🕸🌲🌿🍃
You have given me an insight to the beauty of your environment & great to see your partner along for the trip Besides it so much better to have your loved one there so much joy. I was most impressed with your attitude to the request from the Indigenous People of the land, a perfectly untouched treasure to be left to Perpetuity. The tail wind you spoke of was perfectly timed to look after you as a way of respecting their Wairua. Certainly two humans who are in vogue to the Tangata Whenua of your environment. Kia kha & safe travels - Really enjoy what you two do?
Quetico is one of the best protected provincial parks! That area around atik0kan! (Dried caribou bones) of hwy11. Is one of the barely touched wilderness but is very quickly becoming stripped of its most abundant resources started as mining then forestry and now back to mining. Tourism plays a huge part as well! Enjoy it while u can. Beautiful wilderness.
Absolutely amazing how you and your wife stay true to your beliefs and respect for the people before us and how you don’t fill videos with paid promotions and keep it as real as it gets.

The opening scenes of mist and swans and loons is incredible! Loved the turtle. I may not get to these lakes so very cool to see what Quetico has to offer. Beautifully done.!!
I enjoyed your video. I did Agnes, Kawnipi, Falls Chain, Man Chain in 1976. I really enjoyed it. I did Quetico trips a lot between 1970 and well into the end of the 1980's.
Canadians, you guys have it so good. I live in wny closest thing we have is Allegheny. The Adirondacks are about 5 hrs away, or more. The finger lakes are close and these places are all awesome. You guys have Algonquin, Quantico. Many others I never heard of! Thanks for showing off all this Beauty. Great vid! 🇨🇦
The Great North has a lot of great things. To be honest, North America has it all and each edge, corner, and region complements each other. I love New Zealand, but I don't know if I can live there full time. North America, well, I think I can. And I thank God I'm somewhat coming to terms with that, in going along with my yearning for greater things.
As an American who goes to Quetico every year (I live just south of it in Minnesota) but couldn't go last year, I'm really enjoying your journey. I just just had to pause to comment as you're camping on Edge Lake to say I'm sorry you didn't find the pretty nice campsite on the east side of Glacier maybe a third of the way from the north to the south end. It's up on a ledge, not a grandiose site but really lovely, and definitely a bit more luxe than that site on Edge. I was worried when you left Glacier and headed up the creek because that is a stretch that has fewer campsites than most parts of the Q. Looking forward to the rest of your trip.
this just came up on my list i didnt see video one but here i am...i glance at all quetico videos as ive been there a few tiems myself...ive never visited 50 lakes but the park is so beautiful it would be nice to do a trip like this one day just for the scenery and such the fishing in this place is excellent ive gone up the last 4 years with my dad mostly sometimes a couple of his buddies come too but we go 30-40 kms in from the canadian side camp and fish. fun stuff if you like the outdoors.
Love Louisa Falls! Last time there was on "the trip of lost gear". I lost my beloved Hudson Bay Axe about 1970 on Agnes Lake. My friend's Siberian Husky puppy took it from camp and deposited it in the woods somewhere never to be found! Tanya the husky also ate a dozen eggs packed in a 3 pound coffee can. Then, on a side trip to Dack Lake (east side of Agnes), I lost my old Russell Belt knife when stupidly cleaning a laker on my canoe paddle in the middle of the lake! I watched it glinting down through the water column as it plummeted into the icy depths never to be seen again. You reminded me of all this!
It looks like it has been a great trip for you two. I remember Silence, Sultry, Noon and Summer. It was really pretty through there. Wow good memories. I also really like your hammocks.
Hi guys, whatever you do, please don't change anything, already perfect and always keeping positive out there, that's the key, no matter the situation and weather, awesome content, would be great for schools
Dynamite vid! Thanks from both of us! Cracked me up Erin and alligator. That brought back a memory. I used to swim with our little grandsons and I was papagator with my hands snapping closed in front of them. Man they loved that.
Watching this in my big smart TV. Such a difference to the phone. The quality of your footage is spectacular. You are a couple definitely made for each other. Great to see you out and about again.
OMGOODNESS!! Hubby and I really loved this! Loved that pool halfway down Louisa Falls! It would be tempting to stay for a long while. Chilly, but tempting! I also never, ever tire of listening to the loons...the calls are endlessly haunting...so wild. Thanks for the trip...cant wait for the next segment!
Greatly enjoyed a refreshing dip in that tub on Louisa Falls about 40 years ago, until we discovered it was full of leeches! Glad to see it’s apparently not the case so many years later. A highlight of our trip even so. Really enjoying the videos!
Great series! I particularly liked seeing the trumpeter swans. Nice to see the population spreading out around the province. We have an ever-growing group that winters at our place on the Trent River
The first fish I ever caught was a Northern Pike. I didn't know what I was doing but was given a Timbit to place summer sausage as bait. It was 62 cm (roughly 26 "), just too short to legally keep in the BWCA (but we probably could have eaten it and be full). Thank goodness I have a memory and a picture of it. Well done Jon and Erin. I can't say it enough but thank you for taking us to paradise on earth. : )
That’s those barbless hooks for you. Not a good idea if you’re looking for food. You could always change your hooks if required. Then go back to barbless when ever. That’s just a thought. That was a nice trip thanks. 🇨🇦👍
What an awesome adventure in a very cool piece of wilderness. Loved, "the swans are coming!" Can't wait to see more, hurry please! lol Thanks for sharing!
Great route selection! That stretch south of Kawnipi south then west to Kahshahpiwi is a gap for me in my Quetico travels. It was nice to follow along on a map as you travelled and to see some of those lakes in your video. I've got to get down to see the pictos at Agnes sometime and I would love to do the falls chain.
i like your channel as it has adventures.i will be watching mostly late monday thru thursdays, always wanted to see canada. and that water your in looks COLD TO COLD FOR ME..
Wow, I'm not far into the video (watching now) and the calmness of that lake is simply.... omg look at the swwwwwwwans! Lol. Great video, so calming. Needed that after a rough day.
Have never seen so many spider webs. Kind of cool to see but freaky at the same time. So far this is just so amazing to watch. The scenery and all the amazing wildlife pictures. Especially when “ the swans are coming”. I think what puts it over the top is your interactions with each other. You both have a great sense of humour but it is also the love and respect for each other that comes out in your videos. Thanks to both of you for all your hard work and taking us with you’s. 😘 I will be surprised if you don’t come back with spider webs on you’s.Lol
Nicely done! Did the “Quetico loop” two years ago (from way down here in FL), and had a trip planned this year... but Covid... Hoping for 2021. Post more, please!
She's a keeper, that's for sure.! I should be so lucky.! Thumbs up to you both for caring and sharing this update.! Trick question, where do the bugs go when they are not trying to eat you, and why does the winter not kill them .? You ask anyone that has been married for over fifty years and they will tell you the same thing, individuality and space are essential at moving forward as one person one life. I'm glad I watch your channel.!
Backcountry Angling Ontario are you aware that you did show some of the Pictographs? de:jd I just found your channel and from what i have seen i have to say, good job, thanks! You got it going Fyi i have been in that area and could share some info you would love. Was in 1975 yet info from others shows the info is still true. Many fishing guides hold the area you were in as the best.... 👍🍀 take care, stay healthy! You earned my respect yet good luck since some will never understand some of the rules you tried to teach.
So many incredible things about this trip so far but that pike skeleton and jaws was pretty impressive, just to pick one thing to comment on. Glad to see most of this area has been left pristine as intended with few exceptions.
Such a fun trip! A few of the Walleye on the trip definitely look like nice Laker replacements? You guys are lucky that you'll be able to look back at these trips through these videos. I know before even digital cameras and phones it was rare that Id even have many pictures to even look at much less videos from backcountry trips. We've all gotten better because we all have phones that can do a lot of work for us now, but it's like all my trips from 20 years ago or more are just a handful of blurry pictures or just single pictures of fish taken on some disposable camera. Definitely appreciate the hard work and dedication that you guys put in.
I'm headed into Algonquin next week with the family. I thought I was excited before. This video has me bursting at the seams! :). Thanks for sharing your adventures.
That lure you had Erin...Wally Diver....is it a Cotton Cordell? I have used their lures in the past....Cotton Cordell Ratlin' Spot....those lures are wicked. I call pike FRESH WATER SHARKS....My dad called them LONG NOSE MOUNTAIN TROUT.😂🤣👍🇨🇦 This trip and your camera work...i think it is off the charts excellent. I am binge watching them while my wide works in her jail cell.
I needed to mow my already way too high lawn, but instead chose the far better use of my valuable time by watching this great episode of your trip - after all, one needs to keep their priorities in order, right? ; ) Thanks, Jon and Erin, for taking us along on another truly splendid and well filmed outing. Already looking forward to the next one. ATVB
Came home from work, and settled in to watch this amazing and beautiful video. I always feel like I'm right there when I watch your vids. The underwater footage of the snapping turtle was cool. You had some nice fish too.
The flight of the swans, the sound of the loons, the footage of the turtle poking his nose above the surface of the lake. You place us all inside the moments you capture, I can almost smell Erin's feet... 🥾 Joking aside, nice work.
I spent 8 days in Quetico this month. First trip there in 40 years. I thought it was incredible to see swans in Quetico. We saw them on Oliphant. Your video is fabulous thank you.
That pike doesn't look like a 10+ in the footage but it definitely was. Also we threw the snapping turtle spongy pieces of wood, not food...for the record
Wow I really enjoyed this video! This would definitely be a dream trip for me. Great fishing, beautiful scenery, camping, and paddling. Great video guys!
Totally amazed you guys haven’t seen any big wildlife. Food situation looked better than stick, dog hair stew. Jon that waterfall looked refreshing but I would think some shrinkage would occur in that cold water. Pike big head, big teeth. Love you guys, be safe.
We were surprised too. Hahah we really should've let that meal go...we were in the zone I guess. I'm ok with shrinkage....just no turtles or leeches 😂 Thanks John!
OhhhhhhMy Goodness... how lovely so far. The ethereal mornings are sublime. Gosh I have another how long for the sequel. Well done. When is this becoming a movie ??
Funny enough, I had studied Paddle Planner extensively online before this trip and decided it would take too long to mark all the sites on the lakes we thought we might visit. That was a mistake. And the one on Glacier was where I thought it was from memory, but we looked at it from afar and thought the water access looked steep and didn't see a firepit so we moved on without even coming in closer 🤦♂️
The only thing you guys are missing is a nice rescue pooch! One that loves the outdoors.., & would most definitely love being a practice baby for a newly engaged loving couple! 😄
All that fish you caught, its hard to believe you thought you couldn't let that one super nasty meal go.... besides that, great trip. I enjoyed watching it.
Erin doesn't like seafood (though she tries to) and we don't usually want to make two things for one meal. As for the burritos, I think we should've let that go too lol. I guess we were too focused on the goal
All good man... great video and i will be watching more. Im a big fan of videos like this. I saw you and Joe... he is my fav to watch but I also love how many of you all connect in some way. I loved ur shout out to the Baird bros too.. yeeeeaàahhh ha ha.
I planned to soak in the bathtub this summer, too, until the border closed. Perhaps next year. I hope that Americans get their blank together, so traveling to Quetico will be possible once again. Keep dipping your paddles, guys!
That eagle in episode one would have loved a little roadkill. They have a rough go of it out there. I would be putting bleeding gill cut fish on a rock or log for them. Out west our bycatch usually floats so they can just pick them out of the water. Amazing to watch. My friend who has a cabin on the west coast here keeps his bycatch and carcasses; puts them on a rock by the cabin. THe eagles know what he's doing and follows him in his boat back to his cabin to pick the fish off the log he places them on. Its amazing to watch.
It's amazing how much intelligence animals can muster when it comes to finding food. Seems like the eagles do well in Quetico...they've been called "rats of the sky" there lol
Nice to watch this. Went into Quetico with a buddy in 85 before moving to Alaska. We put in at Beaver house lake and checked in across the lake at the Ranger station before going across Quantico lake and beyond. Little and Big Jean lakes. Sturgeon lake rings a bell. Bent pine creek lakes 1,2 and 3 to name a few. 13 days for us. Yeah you're video brings back canoe memories lemme tell ya. The fishing! Of course it was awesome! Imho Pike are the best eating 😋. Steak em out if the y bones are a challenge. You two work well together ❤. Between Lake Superior, the boundary waters and Quetico/Ontario you have a lifetime ahead of you! God bless and keep safe. Will subscribe 👍.....
For my videos I use 2 gopro Silvers instead of Hero Black, the battery is integral but i use a portable charger and it takes less time to charge than it does to use a battery so I can film all day. I have a 25,000 mA charger that is also solar. Might be something to consider for long trips. It takes less room than a bag of extra batteries and you can use it indefinitely. You could even buy 2 (since they are not terribly expensive), use one while the other charges back at the campsite. Just a thought.
Thanks DF! I've always thought if I did a 3-week+ trip, I'd have to charge batteries and go solar, but for anything less I think more batteries is the way to go. You have them on-demand, and if it's rainy or you don't have time to leave the panel out for very long, I could see that being a problem. And the weight of the batteries might be less than a powerbank and panel. I could be wrong though
In the 1960s and 1970s I spent a lot of time in Quetico, canoeing and fishing some of the waters shown in your videos. Never saw a swan. That is obviously a wonderful success story for wildlife managers.
PART 2 ALREADY!!! Oh how you spoil us sir. haha Thanks for the awesome series! I want one of those amok hammocks (they look great) but sold out for months... cheers to another good one!
I found your videos by watching a lot of kayaking videos. A lot of those videos dub music over the videos. Its awesome to me that you are able to fill your videos with the nature sounds and you just talking to the camera and feels so full.
Thanks a lot James! Yeah occasionally I'll use music but I try to keep those tracks pretty low-key, and first try to use the sounds of nature if I can :)
I’m an average fisherman at best Jon but it’s been my experience that pike are every bit the fighters that bass are. Both are super fun to catch. That pike was a girthy beast! You and never looked so happy as you were taking the waterfall bath 😂. Must have felt so incredible at that point of your adventure! 🇨🇦
I prefer catching pike myself on a fishing trip, but on a trip like this they tend to cut you up and that makes everything you do with your hands miserable. Plus if you dont pay attention they will get you. I have a two inch scar from a northern on my finger, we had to use super glue to seal it, lol. That was some painful paddling
This was an awesome video to watch “two thumbs up” I’m pretty much a 1 hour drive from Ely, MN. And have done a lot of trips into the BWCA but haven’t splurged the time to do Quetico yet!!! Keep the vids coming!

Yeah man, we left some of the falls chain on the table as it'll be nice to hit it in the future. There's a lifetime of routes left here :)
"...OMG here come the swaaaans!!" Makes me laugh everytime!
Have to admit, "jealous" you 2 have each other. Really, great that you all can share these adventures
i like your channel as it has adventures.i will be watching mostly late monday thru thursdays, always wanted to see canada. and that water your in looks COLD TO COLD FOR ME..
Hahah it certainly can be...and this was in August. Thanks Jack!
Wow, I'm not far into the video (watching now) and the calmness of that lake is simply.... omg look at the swwwwwwwans! Lol.
Great video, so calming. Needed that after a rough day.
Hahah thanks a lot GSATV! Glad it could help a little :)
Hahaha don't think I've ever seen so many either. Thanks so much Trisha!!!
Nicely done! Did the “Quetico loop” two years ago (from way down here in FL), and had a trip planned this year... but Covid... Hoping for 2021.
Post more, please!
Painful Mark :( I feel for ya. Hahah finale will be up tonight :)
After 2 thousand miles of canoeing BWCA and Quetico you brought back many pleasant memories. Thank you!
Wow, that's awesome. Thanks Richard!
Hey donnyboy, that's an easy one. They crawl underground and go to hell for the winter. They are the spawn of satan.
@@LostLakes I was afraid of that, Thanks a lot.!
@@flyifri hahah also totally agree that each partner having their own "things" is very healthy
@@LostLakes Very True moving forward as colleagues, partners and best friends.! Thank you for being you, for real.!
Backcountry Angling Ontario are you aware that you did show some of the Pictographs? de:jd
I just found your channel and from what i have seen i have to say, good job, thanks! You got it going
Fyi i have been in that area and could share some info you would love.
Thanks Don! That was pretty awesome...sure made me want to go fishin
Thanks a lot Gerald! So true...we already love looking backward to old videos and I'm sure that will only get better with time :)
I'm headed into Algonquin next week with the family. I thought I was excited before. This video has me bursting at the seams! :). Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Hahah right on, have a great trip Todd!
😆😆 Thank you so much Mike! I believe it was CC, they have some good ones
Nice pike, almost didn’t fit in the net. Beautiful in there, bucket list trip for me for sure.
Thanks Rob! Definitely one to knock off someday
ATVB
Hahah don't worry, there'll be snow to cover it up soon 😜 Thanks NWR!!
Part 2, nice, good way to finish off the last hour of my work day. 👍
Living up to your channel name in this one!! Fantastic pike at 16:00
Thanks Scott!
This series is fantastic Jon & Erin! Can't wait for Part 3.
Much appreciated Thien!
You two Canadians 🇨🇦 are rock stars in my book. Really enjoyed part Deux. Thanks Jon and Erin. Greetings from Chicago and ATB Mike
Thanks so much Mike!!
Came home from work, and settled in to watch this amazing and beautiful video. I always feel like I'm right there when I watch your vids. The underwater footage of the snapping turtle was cool. You had some nice fish too.
Much appreciated Doug!!
Thanks for sharing your tackle with us. That’s cool.🇨🇦👍
Boy I have great 2 weeks now I'm going back to the old folks 🏡 and wait for me next great adventure. Thanks I enjoy you trip.
The flight of the swans, the sound of the loons, the footage of the turtle poking his nose above the surface of the lake. You place us all inside the moments you capture, I can almost smell Erin's feet... 🥾
Joking aside, nice work.
LOL thank you Jeff!!
I spent 8 days in Quetico this month. First trip there in 40 years. I thought it was incredible to see swans in Quetico. We saw them on Oliphant. Your video is fabulous thank you.
Standing “O”! Great scenery, great fishing and a great video!
Thanks MWJ!!
That pike doesn't look like a 10+ in the footage but it definitely was. Also we threw the snapping turtle spongy pieces of wood, not food...for the record
Looked like you tossed a couple cig butts at them. ha yeah right :D
For the record, snappers absolutely love hotdogs. They can smell them or something, because they will climb the bank or worse to get more.
Yeah nice fish man! I'd still be confident enough to assert that this guy was undoubtedly a 12 to 14 pounders!
The eye candy in this video is stunning.
Wow I really enjoyed this video! This would definitely be a dream trip for me. Great fishing, beautiful scenery, camping, and paddling. Great video guys!
Thanks a lot PCF!! It's a fantastic destination
Hahah not long for this series 😜 And the final episode is tonight :) I love the mornings too...they were amazing on this trip. Thanks as always Nikki!
Wow This waterfall! What an experience it must have been ... :) Regards Mike
Are campsites in Quetico not marked like in Algonquin? Surprised to see you having trouble finding one on Glacier lake.
Oh and yeah, they're not marked in Q
@@LostLakes Hmmm, what about Thunderboxes? (yeah, I've only done backcountry in Algonquin)
@@Wordsnwood I don't believe there are any. We camped on and ate meals on quite a few and didn't see any
The only thing you guys are missing is a nice rescue pooch! One that loves the outdoors.., & would most definitely love being a practice baby for a newly engaged loving couple! 😄
Always great to watch your videos. Keep them coming
Erin is so fierce!! I didn’t know Canadians said wicked 😎 love it!! (I’m from Massachusetts)
Hahah she's tough as nails. Cheers Deven!
Love all of your adventures.....this one was special to me.....made parts of this trip in ‘93.
So fun to watch trips of places you've been eh? Thanks Richard!
Another great video! Such nice weather and so quiet and remote. I’ve got a feeling the conditions get worse on the next episode...
You are wise my friend 🙂
Fabulous, really enjoying these, the scenery is stunning.
Thanks Martin!!
Great adventure! Thanks for letting us tag along!
Love the beautiful scenery Thank you so much 👍👍
Been watching a bunch of your solo stuff but you two are SO CUTE! Erin totally passes the good vibe check!
Hahah thanks Tanner!! Nothin but good vibes from that lady 🙂
What a sweet trip. Awsome catch on that huge pike wow. Thanks for sharing 👍
I'm enjoying taking this trip with you! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thanks for joining BCW! :)
Sorry Moe 😢 I hope so too my friend
My solar powered charger is slightly bigger and heavier than a cell phone. When I get home from work I will send you a picture of my chargers.
IM never first. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you!!
I was just on a canoe trip 4 days ago and yet I'm still jealous watching this!
Hahah never enough!+
What can I say, I am most impressed, also, it seems Quetico has a different look to it, very interesting and attractive, regards.
Thanks Malcolm! It's a special place
That misty view on the lake 😍😍😍
Awesome footage! Loved the adventure, again!
Ps
You were seriously courted by your woman!
Hahah she's a peach 🧡
In the 1960s and 1970s I spent a lot of time in Quetico, canoeing and fishing some of the waters shown in your videos. Never saw a swan. That is obviously a wonderful success story for wildlife managers.
Very cool!
That waterfall seemed so refreshing!! Great video guys!! Great trip
Thanks Emmanuel!
PART 2 ALREADY!!! Oh how you spoil us sir. haha Thanks for the awesome series! I want one of those amok hammocks (they look great) but sold out for months... cheers to another good one!
Seems they have shut down Canadian distribution anyways.
I believe they will be back in stock in Canada early 2021. Worth waiting for, I’m in love with mine.
@@erinwalker7421 Thank you! I can't wait!! Glad your ankle is okay from that spill you had. And no matter how you spell it Erin or Aaron...We rock lol
Hahah yeah they're changing they're distribution centre I believe, but they expect to be able to ship to Canada again in 2021
@@LostLakes @erin walker Thanks so much for those updates. Never can have too many hammocks. hope they come back. would love to try one.
This trip is so great. Thanks, Jon and Erin. 👍🙂🛶
Thanks Brian!!!
waiting in high anticipation for the next episode. love you two. its not the liquor talking. I really love you guyz
Hahaha thanks FiF!
Hahaha just wait until you see my smile at the erractic rock in part 4...THAT is the happiest I've ever looked. Don't know why lol
This was an awesome video to watch “two thumbs up” I’m pretty much a 1 hour drive from Ely, MN. And have done a lot of trips into the BWCA but haven’t splurged the time to do Quetico yet!!! Keep the vids coming!
Thanks Nathaniel!! Hope you make it to the north side someday :)
Very well done guys... Crazy beautiful ... Great swimming hole... Cheers
