Awesome as always! Can’t get enough of your videos. My great, great uncle, Roscoe Holcomb, was a pretty gifted player but he passed before I could know him. My mom always talks about how she wished she’d learned from him. I’ve always played various instruments & have always wanted to add banjo to that list & your videos keep me aiming towards doing just that!! Awesome stuff you’re doing, man!
Alright, i've heard cluck old hen a billion times by a billion different artists and this one just straight up nails it. I mean, you can LITERALLY HEAR THE HEN CLUCKING. LISTEN TO THAT HEN CLUCK. I've watched this like 1000 times no joke where do I buy. Rock on Clifton your vids are bitchin' and have inspired me to pick my old banjo back up.
That banjo suits you like a custom-made glove would fit one's hand. Not jealous, no siree... Okay, maybe a little. Love your rendition of cluck old hen, I also like that you toss in a couple of tunes in the same tuning at once, so that one can find several things to learn in a row and not have to jump from tuning to tuning all the time. Thank you!
wow ! Love this ! you remind me of my brother! He was head Luther at Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville! now retired and has his own line of banjos! The Kunkel Banjo Facebook
Clifton, thank you for all of your songs and lessons! I was so inspired by your repertoire and playing that I bought me a banjo this week. Take care brother!!
Awesome version! You never cease to amaze me. Also a great deal of history, I couldn't find much on the internet. I have some friends who might be interested in joining that church btw..
hee hee... havnt even had time thank you for yesterdays video, which lead me into hours of new improvised stuff that I discovered by the way of your lesson. Truck load of fun! Thanks so much as always.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo I once had a Brazilian rosewood guitar from the 1970's with this rich deep sound that would pair with the sound of this banjo so nicely.
Thanks, Blake. I quit selling hardcopy albums a couple of years ago--maybe will again some day. People can still download most of my albums at cliftonhicks.bandcamp.com

@@CliftonHicksbanjo No, this is the first time I've watched it! Thanks for showing me. Your banjo history lessons always make me feel extra pumped to play the banjo when I get home. Really is a beautiful sounding banjo. It's got such a rich meaty tone that I just love. Quite a unique tone.

Roscoe is a treasure in our banjo society words can't describe his level of story telling
@@deltabilly1 Agreed!!
@@Popcorn_Kernel Agreed!
Best version of this I've heard so far. Too many people playing it too slow. Great tempo and very clean energetic sounding tone.

That is the best version of Cluck Old Hen I've ever heard. Inspiring.
I was struggling with learning overhand banjo and learing this tune helped me a lot
Honestly. You’re my favorite banjo player ever.
Ancient sound from the past! Thanks, Clifton!
WOOOWEEE!! This here is a barn-burner!
He's got that Old Leatherstocking gaze in his eyes!!! 😬

Amazing rendition. That banjo is in the hands of a master. Love the slower brushes across the strings reminds me of a hen unfurling her feathers.
Beautiful.

That man makes it look so easy! I coulnt play note one lol/
Nice!
how many banjos do you have they sound great
Tom, I only own one banjo, an 1888 Luscomb. Every other banjo featured on this channel is one I'm selling/have sold.
That banjo sounds so damn good! bodhran banjo.
Ha! I never thought of a bodhran banjo. This banjo was made in the British Isles, actually, about 1875 or '80.

Nylon strings? Does that make it easier for strumming? This is the best version of this song I’ve heard
Yes, I think they were nylons.
Love your channel, dude! Do you have an actual release of the Old Leather Stocking stuff or any solo stuff? Would love some LPs!

Hey, Clif. What type of banjo are you playing in this? I love the tone!
