KYW 3 analog signoff

- This was recorded on my VCR on June 12, 2009. Since I was on an outside antenna I picked up KTBS from Shreveport, LA on a rare skip before KYW came back on with switch-over information on a continuous loop.

Very good to see a copy of KYW's analog shutdown that wasn't camcorder footage pointed at a TV. Reception of KTBS Shreveport was very cool too.
It's probably the distance from the transmitter.
And the tonight tv guide for the night, instead of airing csi, the pull the plug off analog. So sad to see that go 😢
Classy sign off with the original W3XE test pattern.
I wish that more stations paid homage to their roots with their analog sign off.
After all, some stations were exiting that frequency after 50 or 60 years.
W3XE? What's That?
@@phillip5260 What is now KYW-TV began as experimental television station W3XE in 1932. Nice touch to go all the way back on the final analog sign off.
@@peterwilson2591 ... okay.....
It was great for KYW to remember it's roots by showing the test pattern of the first incarnation of the station, W3XE.
This shutdown has been sponsored by Zappos. Zappos: The best place for men's shoes, or something.
it is a shoe company
This shutdown has been sponsored by a company I never heard of.
I remember the KYW transition. I live outside of Philadelphia and it was a bit of a crazy time because everyone thought CBS3 REALLY did go off the air.
Thanks for including the KTBS Shreveport skip. I'd forgotten forgotten what an amazing experience that used to be before my family had cable.
I remember when I lived in Gillett, Wisconsin (located north of Green Bay and west of Oconto) in 1996, and could get e-skip from WJFW-TV NBC 12 in Wausau, Wisconsin, despite that channel being on an adjacent frequency to Green Bay's own WLUK-TV Fox 11...
this is the best video of the kyw-tv analog sign off that I've had seen thanks for posting.
God bless you, sir! There were some people with the KYW-TV footage all recorded by camera to TV. Unfortunately, there were a lot of the footages of the same channel, but using a black and white television. I hope I can remake the KYW-TV analog simultaneous shutdown footage again next week. If you don't mind for me to include this video on the remake of the KYW-TV analog simultaneous shutdown.
ClassicGaminer 2017, Go ahead, I don't mind. I was kinda surprised no one else did it this way so when I didn't see any other directly OTA, I figured some folks would enjoy this version. I was going through old VCR tapes to discard and copying some to DVD. I then copied the DVD of this and the Channel 6 video to the computer to post here. Please let me know when you publish your compilation.
2:57 this looks like analog horror
Wonder why they went off the air for a couple minutes then came back on with the "nightlight" loop? I think a couple stations in New York also did that. Interesting you got some 'skip' reception on the last day of analog, wonder if anyone's gotten digital skips since then? In CA at my parents' house on their roof antenna, I got skips on channels 2 and 4 from Colorado, Kansas, Mexico and Canada in the 80s- we had a full-power channel 3 locally and got some interference from other distant stations trying to come in but none could overpower it. Normally we got 2 and 4 from San Francisco but were far enough from there to get the more distant stations when they were coming in.
The Media Hoarder I think they ran the nightlight loop directly from the transmitter. That _was_ the case with WNBC-TV when they ran the loop from the ESB instead of from 30 Rock.
Ya right. WNBC-TV (My NBC station) did have a nightlight. And it was turned off on June 26, 2009.
i got a digital skip
date of happen: Oct 1, 2021
after Disney Channel signed off, i recieved a skip fron Nickelodeon (ch. 29)
@@KlaskyFan1000 Impossible because those are cable signals.
1:26 It's the Zappos man! Yay!
A few hours later KYW-TV CBS 3 in Philadelphia would decommission their analog signal, on that same day, KTBS-TV ABC 3 Shreveport, Louisiana would also be decommissioned...that day's digital would create a ripple effect as outdated analog technology would be replaced with digital, giving us clearer pictures and the addition of subchannels on every local station...everyone had to make sure their new flatscreen TVs were being used or converter boxes were hooked up to their existing CRT TVs to experience a new era in broadcasting. Some say they liked the old NTSC standard, while others praised the new ATSC standard for their stronger, clearer local signals, plus the fact that each TV station can multiplex their signal, offering everything from classic TV to music videos and 24/7 weather on their subchannels...
Actually NTSC means Never Twice the Same Color where ATSC - Always The Same Color.🤣
Not gonna lie. This sign off is slightly creepy to me. The sudden loud voiceover and the haunting silence is kinda creepy.
and considering that there was a faraway television station that was faintly viewable on channel 3 after KYW VHF 3 signed off for good

Good question.
I receiving analog signal of azteca 7 with an outdoor vhf and uhf antenna Since 2015 I maked that so i receiving bit of E- Skip
They were slower than WPVI. WPVI quickly shut it off. After a second it turned black.
That is because they reused their RF6 Channel for their digital transmission. Channel 3 moved to UHF.
@@druliefw I would understand because WPVI still use channel 6 without a virtual channel. KYW didn't bother to reuse channel 3 but they know use channel 30.
the mercury thing at the bottom looks like a subscribe button
Yea, it does, doesn't it.
now no.

Did ktbs ever shut it’s signal off
Hello, Dave. I apologize for the late upload, I completely forgot about the remake of the analog simultaneous shutdown video of KYW-TV, I have included your video and here is the link, My sincere apologies.
ruclips.net/video/lGWgIh5ZOtk/видео.html
That video is private.
The digital switch video looks like static taking over the station.
It did. The analog signal shut off on RF3 and the programming was switched to the digital signal was on UHF. (actually it had been simulcasting before the switch)
Why was KTBS still running analog after the switch?
KTBS is in the Central Time Zone. KYW is in Eastern. Thus they switched an hour later.
@@druliefw or, KTBS-TV waited until later in the day to transition. They had until Midnight local time.
CBS 3 has sponsored by Zappos
1:54 Goodbye
I honestly think that even though better than some others, I really think this is very dissapointing for one of (if not) the very first TV signal in the US. KDKA and WLWT did MUCH better and they had a very strong history as well.
WCBS-TV did too with a sign-off & signing back on into this message.
1:18 I CANNOT SEE THE ADVERTISE :-(
Sorry bout that.
CAN YOU UPLOAD ONCE AGAIN. PLEASE 🙏
@@raisfathroosdian5120 sorry I do not have the original VHS tapes anymore. Let alone a machine to play it on. The content was a couple of commercials and local news irrelevant to the digital cutover.

What even IS that?
Part of a Zappos commercial. There are several comments and theories made about that on this thread..
Clearly a switching error. I assume that the test pattern ran on both KYW's analog and HD feeds, whereupon the HD feed went into _The Young and the Restless_ ...
