That was awesome. As a DnD noob, I didn't figured it out he was supposed to be the GM NPC who is there purely for "balance" reasons, the party was maybe not strong enough to survive the underdark, so the paladin went along to guaranteed their safety. And when he did his part, he just left lol

This movie really does deserve a 9/10 or 10/10 just because you have non-D&D fans that will enjoy it for what it is. But to those of us that are D&D fans, we can appreciate it even more because they actually had people that care about D&D and do it so much service. I know for one the Sorcerer actor took the time to use actual ASL in his spell casting gestures, and also they took the time to make mention of how Wild Magic is random and why he sometimes doesn't cast what he meant to cast, in the scene with the Intellect Devourers, it kinda made sense because none of their classes typically have High Intellect, in the last scene when they were fighting the Wizard, they kinda showed that the Stone Dragon was a Concentration spell because she kept trying to stay away and you could see her focused on the dragon and chanting. Then as soon as she got hit, failed the Concentration check, whoops there goes the summon! So many small touches like this in the movie, and I love it. I want a sequel so bad as long as they keep this same heart!

As a D&D player, the best part of the film really is just imagining the characters as players and the story being pushed along by the Dungeonmaster (DM). Watched it with my partner who also plays D&D and we just loved whispering at each other during scenes about how that character was obviously rolling low on the dice and failing, how the DM must have been having a headache improvising to go along with the players' dumb ideas, or how the players were chatting outside the game to come up with an unorthodox solution after discovering new items and information.
I'm not a hardcore D&D fan (and a lot of the references and callbacks to lore in the movie went over my head) but even as a player who's just dipping their toes into D&D it was an incredibly fun time to watch and relate to the characters' and the imaginary DM's behaviors and thought processes, presented through a bright and beautiful fantasy movie.

A group in the cages looked like the kids from the 80's cartoon. Thought that was a cool Easter Egg....

My dad is a huge R. A. Salvatore fan (even met the guy before) and played D&D back in the old days of THAC0 and such. He loved this since he also has played Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Knights, and Icewind Dale. As a huge fan of the Forgotten Realms setting myself, I was picking out things that felt like the reverence to the fans; they didn't talk down to us nor spit on us. This felt like a D&D game being played.

My expectations for this movie were through the floor. I went with my dnd group to see this tonight and we universally loved it. They really managed to capture what makes dnd fun with this movie and I think everyone should go see it

The studio had confidence in their product releasing embargo 2 weeks before released.
that was already a good sign

I was pleasantly surprised after multiple people told me how enjoyable it was, even for non-D&D people like me. Made me laugh, and enjoy all the guild members by the end. Simple but effective, would definitely rewatch!

I’ve just seen this tonight! And I’m a huge D&D fan been since 3.5 when I started all the way to now! With critical role as a show I’ve followed from the get go. My girlfriend had no interest and no clue about the world and came at this brand new to see why I love this world and hobby. she LOVED this movie! Was laughing and crying at the end and was genuinely entertained! She wants to see another sequel and maybe even add more A listers to a sequel to join Chris Pine and the cast going forward! So I hope other regulars going and D&D fans support this movie!

I had low expectations and this was super fun! It felt good to see something that looked real because of the real sets and environments. I don't know basically anything about DND but this was super fun

I just got done watching it. It was a great surprise!! I loved it! There was a part I laughed so hard. Hardest I’ve laughed in a long time during a movie! I also gave it a 9/10.
