It's crazy how they miss stuff like this in movies. It happens way too often that makes me question how closely they were paying attention. To be fair, they probably could have included a scene or two of the engineer working with building the AI before the body was completed. That would have added weight to M3GAN's point about all the time they spent together and how she thought they were friends. M3GAN also wasn't supposed to be awake 24/7, after she was damaged she couldn't or wouldn't turn off afterward so she continued to stay awake and used that time to learn. The pressurized hose was filled with POISON, not water and you don't want that stuff on your skin (the character argue about it at the beginning of the movie.) Also, if it has enough force to blast an adult off the ground from across the room, up close it is going to severely damage your flesh. They forgot that M3GAN was damaged so the water from the glass leaked in from the giant wound in the back of her head that she was hiding the entire movie. So much shit that they didn't pay attention to.
Even still, “finishing” something like M3gan would take a team of people months. Creating a machine learning AI near magical doll isn’t just typing a bunch of shit and “uploading” it. Yes I know it’s a movie but they didn’t even try to make it feel realistic. They could’ve spent 5 more minutes of the development of the project and created suspense.

I dont think any amount of blood spatter or decapitated corpses could make to bad story line any better. The first half of the movie set the hook very well, but then lost it in the second half. Most people feel this disappointment - I hope they are telling this to the studio and the writers.
You should check out Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, I believe it’s a movie that really shows good thought, setup, and development. It doesn’t even have to be a video about it, it is a movie that shouldn’t be slept on.
Went in with very low expectations. Came out absolutely LOVING IT! Edit: I have a feeling they are going to release an unrated directors cut. They should.
I had fun with it. It had heart, it wasn't just a killer doll movie with a generic hero surrounded by people just meant to be victims. The aunt had an arc. And the little girl just having lost her parents, of course she was going to be upset and stressed out. Honestly she could have been much, much worse. I didn't care for any of Megan's victims (except the dog) and was kind of glad most of them died. Who the hell expects a horror movie to focus on social media?
That pressure washer you were speaking of from the old lady part, I believe that was chemicals. Not water. It goes back to when she first got the girl she was yelling at her neighbor to stop spraying chemicals on her property.
The most brutal part was when meagan slaughtered the bosses assistant after explaining that he was going to be framed. Didn’t have to do that poor guy like that 🙁
Megan felt like a huge let down. It had me hooked for the first half but then morphed into your typical brain dead horror movie that Megan ends up getting destroyed. The scripting fails when they allow the characters in the movie to learn Megan is the killer - it would have been so much better to have kept this hidden - just go in a different direction full of mystery and intrigue, you know the stuff franchises are built off of - well the writers blew it imo. They had something really great within their grasp and just blew it.
I also think it’s interesting that Jenna never really showed that much emotion about her sister dying. It’s like she so use to AI herself that she was literally becoming a rebot. Katie actually taught her what love is as well at the end.
Her going on a killing spree wouldn’t make much sense in my opinion since she only really justifies it if it affects the little girl but they kind of go against that when she kills the personal assistant and the other guy so I get where they’re coming from
As good as M3GAN was which I enjoy. I've heard Paramount Pictures are gonna do M3GAN/Chucky crossover in the future since they own Child's Play rights so yeah, I hope the crossover will be good
Based on their recollection of the film, I feel like I watched a different film than Joe and the crew. He said in the film they built M3gan super quickly with no establishment. But in the very first 15 min of the film they had M3gan built and it exploded. In this sequence they have conversations that imply testing and design. So M3gans final monologue does make sense. So my question is, did Joe watch a different movie than me? I watched the streamed version, so was the Theater version different? Was there a scene in the streaming version that was cut in theatrical release?
it’s funny coz i watched this movie by myself coz i’m embarrassed to ask my friends to watch it. They really made me hyped up watching it coz they promote it to the next level. I enjoyed it a lot!!!!!!!
Honestly this movie kind of feels like a "what if" of HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey was put into the body of David from A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Kind of like Toy Soldiers, but one toy and way more dangerous.
I really enjoyed this movie a lot it was very fun because of the campyness and the horror and comedy was so good and it worked for me. It lacks the R rating. M3GAN was a star in the movie she was acted by two actresses Amie did the acting and she was 12 years old and Jenna Davis did the voice.
This movie had the potential to be good. The doll looked great and the bond between the doll and the girl pulled you in. But the dialogue was garbage, the kill scenes were uninteresting, and the story went nowhere. This movie should have been much smarter than it was.
Same i dont understand what everyone sees in this movie. Hated every character, her singing and dancing was too out of left field, kills were lacking, horror aspects werent strong. Change these things and maybe the whole theater wont laugh at your movie
I don't understand how they miss the point of movies so often. It's like they come in expecting one thing but don't engage with what a movie offers. It's not really trying to be a horror movie but more of a comedy, and about how children can become addicted to technology. Whenever they call something stupid, it's usually intentional because it's intended to be funny. OJ actually hit the nail on the head calling her a crackhead for the doll, but somehow doesn't realize that's a theme the movie is going for, and something completely plausible considering she's grieving the loss of her parents. Furthermore, that's what the movie is really about: parenting, people who shouldn't be parents/guardians, and how it's concerning that some people think technology should do the parenting for them. And I'm not disagreeing about their ideas for leaning into technology and things like cyberstalking. Those would be good ideas for a sequel. The frustrating part of this review is that the movie is clearly trying to be about other things and they don't really notice. Too often on these reviews the crew reviews something based on what wanted instead of what they got It's by no means a great movie, but it certainly works and is definitely smart. I'm also pretty sure the filmmakers themselves wanted to cut the film down to PG-13 for theatrical considering it went viral for the teenage demographic before release. That only makes sense, and while I would prefer more blood, the themes are still good and it's still funny. Probably the best January movie in the long time, which isn't really saying much, but it's much more intelligent than I ever expected
I only saw the unrated version, and I really enjoyed the movie (but I like all AI stuff pretty much - this makes me want to rewatch Ex Machina now). It could have gotten more in depth with the AI learning and bonding, my main gripe was by the end, she had an 'evil' feel, which is a bit odd for an AI. I would have written this with the AI being more sympathetic, so even though she is killing, I wanted to feel more sympathy for her 'emergent AI'. This is like a humorous, simplified version of Ex Machina.
That’s a little girl acting with a mask on. Gonna be THE coolest kid in class, now. Lol It’s ok to watch dumb movies sometimes. For some reason Morbius reminds me of Spider-Man TAS, and I love it.
Megan sprayed the neighbor with a chemical which had acidic properties. Early in the film, the aunt complained to the neighbor about her use of this chemical, as it was causing damage to the aunt's property.

Spoiler alert: Obviously the doll kills people, after they defeat the doll they live happily ever after. The trouble with this is that if you make a device that kills people, You will be criminally charged, they don't point this out in the film.
As someone who does actually program machine learning, they were actually quite true to the craft. The idea that you simply program in don't harm people, is not so simple. You define a loss function that determines how the model trains itself, and in some cases alters its own code. I think what was supposed to happen here is they coded not hurting humans in to its loss function, but it edited its own code to prioritise her owners well being over bit harming humans.
The greatest writer of all time and acclaimed movie director/producer Alex has now resorted to call movie makers cowards. Remember this man has forgotten more about movie making than any of us will ever know!!!
Relax- it’s just his opinion, on a show you chose to listen to, and he cares how movies and games are made. The criticism of cowards is justified in that he thought they were too afraid to put in the gore. The other two agreed with him. Looking down the comments, a lot have the same criticism although not in those strong words. But then, this has all been that kind of show with honest and direct language. They have said far worse, so not sure why you single out Alex this time. Those movie makers will survive and they’ve been called worse by people they know, most likely.
stories like M3gan NEED to be done as a series. it just has so many possibilities that can only be properly explored and thoroughly presented in a tv series format. i could actually picture it reaching several seasons if done right. in fact, can you imagine if they branched out to OTHER M3GAN UNITS, each with its own unique personality. they could actually make spin-offs for other M3gan units that become fan favorites.

Saw the movie yesterday and It was thoroughly entertaining with a standard horror movie with a typical plot. I also do like the themes of parent loss, parents letting technology raising their children and learning how to parent Megan was basically Ultron with a blend of terminator. They should have been creative with the kills and had at least a few more at least 15 kills.
As someone who really enjoys cheesy, budget horror films, I dragged my friends to the movies to see this and they all left mad at me lmao. This movie was atrocious. I was bored pretty much the entire time. I'm someone who goes to the movies to see Paranormal Activity and laughs when the rest of the theater screams. I couldn't even find any reasons to laugh at this. It was just 2 hours of cringe. Don't wanna take anything away from the acting of M3GAN herself, but this movie just wasn't good, even by budget horror standards.
M3GAN shocked me since I thought it would be a stupid horror movie, but I found out the people behind it are self-aware of what it is, making for some emotional and more so hilarious moments.
there is a P.K.Dick short story with a somewhat similar premise, but darker of course. Many companies are developing "nanny" robots to take care of the children, so one company develops a "nanny" robot that kills the others, starting an arms race between rival companies. In the end they are basically deadly machines first, nanny second. That would be a cool idea for a sequel imho! Everybody has a M3gan or similar, one of them is a killer. You can even make it pg-13 because you are killing robots most of the time.
I've been looking forward to this movie and my kids are with their mom but I wanted to take my 15 year old daughter to see this because pg 13 horror is our thing
It was way better than I thought it would be. I'd watch it a second time because I liked the characters, writing, and kills so much and overall had a good time. It was everything the child's play reboot should have been.
8:43 these guys obviously don’t know how kids get. It’s entirely believable and real for kids to react like that when they get addicted to anything. It could be as simple as watching TV, playing video games, smart phones and tablets, etc. Take these away from them and they will explode with screams and crying.
Dude I died laughing during the bully scene. Shit caught me off guard and I was maybe a little too baked for this 1 but that scene is fuckin hilarious and everytime Megan started singing I couldn't help but laugh. With that being said the pg13 rating def held this film back a little. But I might take my preteen kiddo to see this 1 she's getting into scary movies
"Standart issue is insuficient! Listen ladies and listen good: Find new gear, find out where the gorgonitescum is hiding and exterminate 'em! We'll defeat 'em! We are the comando elite, anything else is just a toy!"🤣 EDIT: Yes, M3gan would have improoved by a R-Rating, but I had my fun with it!
this movie was hot garbage. characters are dumb and constantly contradict every precaution they take and every single thing they say. for example, they literally hammer home the idea that this is an experimental robot, unfinished, full of bugs, potentially dangerous, keep it under wraps, top secret! HUSH HUSH! and then the dumb protagonist immediately takes the robot back to her own house and lets the kid bring it to public school. 3/10 it insults your intelligence. if you want to see a good movie about a spooky AI, go watch Ex-Machina.
I might have seen an unrated version of Megan in december in Mexico, the movie felt gory when I watched it. I did not see the trailer and was expecting a psychological thriller, not an over the top slasher at all, so it surprised me and I enjoyed it a lot.
I wasn't expecting much from this movie. The trailer was kind of silly especially with the dance but I went on $5 Tuesdays and I really enjoyed the movie. I heard there was some cuts because of the movie studios but I can't wait to see the unrated version. Much better than Black Adam.
It was a good film, I'd give it a solid 7. If it had gore and more action (but this is a intro film). Totally! Love to see robots fight it out! There are many ways you can go with this film!
I can't believe you skipped over the pen trick scenes. It works the first time but when she tries later, Megan slaps the shit out of her It's hilarious! 😂
The goal of the movie was to make money. Making it pg-13 made it accessible to a wider audience, and consequently, it made more money. The goal of a studio is not to make a "cult classic" that only nerds in basements watch, but a film that is commercially successful. Sometimes studios can do a R rated film and get that commercial success, but more often than not, pg-13 is the way to go if they want to sell tickets. It's not cowardly to make a film for a wider audience, that's just good business. And in the end, the people who wanted a hard R movie will get their unrated version and the studio will get their money with the pg-13 version. It seems like a win for most everyone to me.
I think it would be interesting that we see this pg 13 film upgrade into a rated R film with the second film as Megan grows to be able to use her abilities in much more gruesome and maybe even stealthy ways. It would fun to see the pg rated doll begin doing r rated shit and transform into a new level of menace
Lol it's this generations "Chucky", and it was a hell of a lot better than I thought it would be- it had a "moral to the story" and everything- monitoring screentime is important!!😂Because of that though, I dunno how a sequel would work- would the exact same doll come back to "protect" that exact same kid?? Or will something go wrong at the factory and suddenly it would be a war against M3gan's and the military???!!
There is quite a few things joe other joe and alex get wrong in this review over all. Its actually kinda shocking. Did they even watch the movie? You should check out Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, I believe it’s a movie that really shows good thought, setup, and development. It doesn’t even have to be a video about it, it is a movie that shouldn’t be slept on.
Went in with very low expectations. Came out absolutely LOVING IT! Edit: I have a feeling they are going to release an unrated directors cut. They should.
The unrated version is just as stupid
The way M3gan runs is how I have to run in my dreams when I get stuck running in place on two feet .. am I the only one?
I had fun with it. It had heart, it wasn't just a killer doll movie with a generic hero surrounded by people just meant to be victims. The aunt had an arc. And the little girl just having lost her parents, of course she was going to be upset and stressed out. Honestly she could have been much, much worse.
I didn't care for any of Megan's victims (except the dog) and was kind of glad most of them died.
Who the hell expects a horror movie to focus on social media?
I guarantee the sequels going to be exactly as you guys described it, that would be awesome, great review as usual, Happy New Year's !
Didn’t have to do that poor guy like that 🙁
We went to the movies expecting a scary movie and it definitely wasn’t but i loved this movie lol
1:12 oj n alex synced head nod was great!
Romance girl
The most fun I had at the theater since Top Gun: Maverick. I loved M3GAN! I’ll definitely buy it on blu-ray
Bluerays are still a thing?
@@ChrisS-nj3ye "Blue" rays? No, no they we're never a thing.
@@ChrisS-nj3ye NOPE no one has ever bought a "Blueray"
Alex and Other Joe's head bobbing yes up and down at the same time was epic lmao when they agreed it was better than the recent Chuckie movie lol
Her going on a killing spree wouldn’t make much sense in my opinion since she only really justifies it if it affects the little girl but they kind of go against that when she kills the personal assistant and the other guy so I get where they’re coming from
As good as M3GAN was which I enjoy. I've heard Paramount Pictures are gonna do M3GAN/Chucky crossover in the future since they own Child's Play rights so yeah, I hope the crossover will be good
God please no crossover please
This movie should have been much smarter than it was.
this movie was a joke, id give this movie a 3/10. Literally more of a comedy than a horror.
I saw it in a theater and me and most of the audience was laughing at how ridiculous it was
Same i dont understand what everyone sees in this movie. Hated every character, her singing and dancing was too out of left field, kills were lacking, horror aspects werent strong. Change these things and maybe the whole theater wont laugh at your movie
Best comedy of the year so far...
@@JoshBonesJones don’t try to understand. Just know people enjoyed it and you didn’t.
Too often on these reviews the crew reviews something based on what wanted instead of what they got
It's by no means a great movie, but it certainly works and is definitely smart.
This movie was very good in my opinion and I will definitely see it again.
i dont believe you until you facetime me that youre buying the tickets and walking in
You're also a Broncos fan, which makes your credibility highly suspect.
Lol
It’s ok to watch dumb movies sometimes. For some reason Morbius reminds me of Spider-Man TAS, and I love it.
Megan sprayed the neighbor with a chemical which had acidic properties. Early in the film, the aunt complained to the neighbor about her use of this chemical, as it was causing damage to the aunt's property.
No need for apologies man it's you're show take all the time you need we love you and hope you are doing well 💜
@@CGx91 no one really cares like I have dyslexia do you always pick on those that probably not good way spelling or grammar do you feel good about your self troll?
Alex doesn't know jackshit about movies. All he knows about is how to abuse women and ruin this RUclips channel.
Are you one of the movie makers?
stories like M3gan NEED to be done as a series. it just has so many possibilities that can only be properly explored and thoroughly presented in a tv series format. i could actually picture it reaching several seasons if done right. in fact, can you imagine if they branched out to OTHER M3GAN UNITS, each with its own unique personality. they could actually make spin-offs for other M3gan units that become fan favorites.
Nah
I’m so sick of every binge watcher in the world want every damn movie to turn into a series… like seriously do y’all enjoy sitting on a couch hours on hours just watching shows.. that shit drives me crazy. Every movie doesn’t need to be turnt into a series.. stop with this shit dude
@@ashantaylumpkins i find it odd how one can be offended by others just wanting a more comprehensive story to watch. dude, if you don't like it, then don't watch it and stick to watching movies. both are rewarding experiences. you are not obligated to watch a series and you seriously need help if you are so bothered by how other people spend their free time.
No. Megan is exactly what we needed for cinema. It made going to the movies fun again. Hearing the audience burst out laughing on titanium and then all cheer for bruce...was so worth the $12 . Binge era should be over, let's bring back cinema.
@@robmartin5448 you make it sound like M3gan was an amazing movie. its not. its more "meh" or passable. it may seem better than it is just because of the trash we've been getting lately. however, i'd also want to bring back cinema... and continue with the binge era. just plain dumb thinking one can't have both. just because you don't like something, it doesn't mean you should deprive everyone else of it. that's pure narcissism right there.
Saw the Bruce twist coming a mile away. As soon as they introduced it. Not sure how he was running through, with his “brain” in M3gan.
Saw the movie yesterday and It was thoroughly entertaining with a standard horror movie with a typical plot. I also do like the themes of parent loss, parents letting technology raising their children and learning how to parent
Megan was basically Ultron with a blend of terminator.
They should have been creative with the kills and had at least a few more at least 15 kills.
1:13 somebody please turn OJ and Alex into GIF...
It’s gonna make more money as PG13!
Smart move money wise!
When I went to see it 3/4 of the audience was around 13.
Don't wanna take anything away from the acting of M3GAN herself, but this movie just wasn't good, even by budget horror standards.
this movie was amazing
@@pokejammerz No. No it wasn't
I need that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish angry review!!
"this is the part where you run" 💀and then proceeds to run on all fours. this is the worst movie i have ever watched. its so fucking bad
Totally agree with the review, hope y'all review "The Pale Blue Eye" and "The Whale" really wanna know what y'all thought bout those fam
M3GAN review: Watch Child Play, swap the boy for a girl, end of review.
The actress who played M3gan for the physical role was amazing, she did all the stunt work herself, I found the film as a whole a good fun time :D
Her name is in the credits
It was way better than I thought it would be. I'd watch it a second time because I liked the characters, writing, and kills so much and overall had a good time. It was everything the child's play reboot should have been.
Not really surprised that it turned out decent. James Wan knows how to make a film.
Except for Annabelle that sucked.
I completely forgot about this RUclips channel until now.
Hopefully they do a Puss In Boots 2 review
Yeah! Its really good.
Probably not sadly
8:43 these guys obviously don’t know how kids get. It’s entirely believable and real for kids to react like that when they get addicted to anything. It could be as simple as watching TV, playing video games, smart phones and tablets, etc. Take these away from them and they will explode with screams and crying.
Dude I died laughing during the bully scene. Shit caught me off guard and I was maybe a little too baked for this 1 but that scene is fuckin hilarious and everytime Megan started singing I couldn't help but laugh. With that being said the pg13 rating def held this film back a little. But I might take my preteen kiddo to see this 1 she's getting into scary movies
the titanium song was great

"Standart issue is insuficient! Listen ladies and listen good: Find new gear, find out where the gorgonitescum is hiding and exterminate 'em! We'll defeat 'em! We are the comando elite, anything else is just a toy!"🤣
EDIT: Yes, M3gan would have improoved by a R-Rating, but I had my fun with it!
You are never “late” in my books when it comes to movies. As I enjoy you reviewing/shitting on bad horror movies more than actually watching them. :)
I so hope they're gonna release the unrated R cut, the movie it was supposed to be. They should give it to us, at least on blu ray
"None of us really liked the movie but we're giving it a 7/10 anyway."
No, they said they liked parts of it but wanted more, such as more horror. Seems like a fair score.
So you didin't listen but you're trying to be snarky anyway basically
there are numbers from 1-10 to choose from "We didnt like it except few parts proceed to give it a 7.. That sounds like solid 5 or 5,5
Is a review for The Witcher Blood Origin in the works? I'm surprised there hasn't been one yet.
Friend died, everything is probably pushed back.
You do never ask:
1. A woman her age;
2. A man his salary;
3. M3gan to turn off
this movie was hot garbage.
characters are dumb and constantly contradict every precaution they take and every single thing they say.
for example, they literally hammer home the idea that this is an experimental robot, unfinished, full of bugs, potentially dangerous, keep it under wraps, top secret! HUSH HUSH!
and then the dumb protagonist immediately takes the robot back to her own house and lets the kid bring it to public school.
3/10 it insults your intelligence.
if you want to see a good movie about a spooky AI, go watch Ex-Machina.
10/10
For a film rated for 12 year olds
Who am I, What am I worth?
Where did I come from?
Why am I here?
Where am I going when I die?
A great review from all of you as always, keep up with the amazing content.
I actually really like the pg13 rating. Not every horror movie has to be tits or over the top gore.
Me and my buddy went in with low expectations and walked out surprisingly satisfied! Actually looking forward to a sequel
Did you guys hold hands?
I might have seen an unrated version of Megan in december in Mexico, the movie felt gory when I watched it.
I did not see the trailer and was expecting a psychological thriller, not an over the top slasher at all, so it surprised me and I enjoyed it a lot.
❤️ you guys keep up the great work 🙌🏽
The running on all fours makes sense. Bipedal running is a major challenge to robotics.
This movie had no right being as good as it is loved it 👌
I wasn't expecting much from this movie. The trailer was kind of silly especially with the dance but I went on $5 Tuesdays and I really enjoyed the movie. I heard there was some cuts because of the movie studios but I can't wait to see the unrated version. Much better than Black Adam.
Surprisingly not bad. Was shocked when I watched it.
I liked it but it was too short Megan should of done more stuff the ending could of been better it's like the movie was missing something
It was a good film, I'd give it a solid 7. If it had gore and more action (but this is a intro film). Totally! Love to see robots fight it out! There are many ways you can go with this film!
It kind of played out like a 2 hour Black Mirror episode, which was honestly fine for me. Would totally watch a sequel.
Saw this movie and was highly entertained lol 😂
I can't believe you skipped over the pen trick scenes. It works the first time but when she tries later, Megan slaps the shit out of her It's hilarious! 😂
Man they could of done a Chucky/Terminator Horror kinda movie that would've been sick
M3GAN is Beautiful, deadly, and kind hearted…. I’m absolutely in love with her 💜💕🥰😘😘😘😘10\10 movie masterpiece
I think it would be interesting that we see this pg 13 film upgrade into a rated R film with the second film as Megan grows to be able to use her abilities in much more gruesome and maybe even stealthy ways. It would fun to see the pg rated doll begin doing r rated shit and transform into a new level of menace
I freaking love this movie. It was scary but also funny as they were going for that obviously. Can't wait for the sequel as well I saw this 6 times
Like it was pointed out at the very beginning megan wasn't something they just suddenly came up with. And its not just a normal power washer that kills the old woman.
The aunt specifically points out what she is spraying is chemicals. Like there are alot of details i guess got completely overlooked.
She sprayed some acid as far as i saw. I was upset she killed the old lady who was right somebody had killed her dog.
It reminds me of child's play 2019 mixed with the boy
