We all know the resource simplafaction is bs. You should have a word with the dev team in the official discord telling them how point less this is. They might listen to you seeing how your the only thing keeping their game alive.
Lathrix you have your math wrong with the lens angles. It's not 45 plus 35, it's 45 plus 17.5. The entire firing arc of the lens is 35 degree, up down left right and every direction in between. Only half of that is used to push it beyond it's maximum rotation or pitch.
One error in your calculations: 6%/100m is not equal to 60%/1000m. The damage value at 1000 meters would be 100*(0.94^10) which is 53.86%. So the decrease would be ~46%.
At 100 meters you've lost 6% of your original full damage, but go another 100 meters and that only costs you 6% of the 94% damage you had after the first hundred meters. So there's some diminishing returns on the damage loss at range, and actually calculating it out gives you what Bernard posted
More damage math! Because of the damage multiplier, both the long and short range lenses are approximately equivalent at ~1km, provided that the damage loss over range is exponential, not additive: Long range lense at 1km: 0.8x(0.98^9) = 0.667 Short range lense at 1km: 1.2x(0.94^9) = 0.687 (3.1% greater) So short range lenses are superior within 1km, long range beyond that.

I'm just waiting for him to make a ship where he just rams into the enemy but the front of the ship is shaped like prongs with the melee lasers in between them
22:03 Blocks can only interact 1 subobject "down". So a turret on a ship can collide with the ship (sorta, it only checks the origins of blocks, stuff like beams can clip through because they're multiple blocks long), while a turret on another turret can only collide with that first turret. It's basically impossible for the devs to fix (like other bugs involving subobjects like detection/propulsion on spinblocks) without a serious rework, so it's not worth the effort to fix and potentially break a whole host of other things.
Love the little cannons, and honestly, they do a lot more damage than expected. I know they're baby targets but they shredded them much more than I expected.

They are really easy to use ,you have to build them like you build a advanced cannon ,with only the firing piece(and the needed connections) above deck, and the rest within the hull/turret ,but people usually use particle cannons as deck guns ,reducing their role to a throwaway weapon
You should watch what you could do with 3 by 3 by 9 short range particle cannon array on a bomber. It’s essentially a pac bomber that has one shotted the endgame boss of the scarlet dawn from a lucky shot. Yeah seriously
*@Lathland* 16:20 Used staggered fire, so you don't over-kill the target, but instead can de-direct that damage to another target. (And if you have enough ( x20+ ) tiny tubes then you can basically have an unbroken barrage of shots against an enemy)
Very true and why some of my larger weapons do just that, so certainly a good suggestion! But with these firing once every 2 seconds (1 second in some of the tests!) the staggered fire isn't really as effective, especially with the low damage per shot.
So, I've got a bit of a silly idea. Seeing as the main weapons system of this carrier will be particle cannons, what if that becomes the theme of this craft in more ways than one? What if you were to make a particle cannon *bomber* Since some of them can be given larger charge times, it sounds like it would work excellently for attack runs! what you actually need to build is to make a entire deck covered in those small Particle turrets, just the thought of dozen of lazers booping like that is GOOD
Turret tips: turrets are hard to make to look nice, but some general guidelines, don’t make slopes that are on the ground floor, if your turret is small, make it symmetrical (front and back), also base your turret on turrets from real life, make sure that your turret base is in the middle of the turret and is in the middle of the turret’s cap, large turrets can have an enlarged back like real life battleships. Just base thing of real life.
Aparently, subobject collision isn't based on the whole block but instead it only detects the point of origin. That means if you put a 4m beam horizontally on top of a spin block properly, it'll be able to turn inside a 1x1 space.
Question: On the Vertical Lens, is the vertical field of fire, relative to the lens or to the world? If its relative to the lens, then you could make one horizontal(thus making it have 60 degrees of horizontal aim) and static, for some kind of lazy mans all round defense.
About the commodities, you have to consider that your ships will consume materials in order to deliver the raw materials to other ships. Using commodities may not be as much inefficient as you might imagine.
With all these faces in his builds, it looks like Lathrix is turning all his ships into Gunmen. Are we going to see the drill that will pierce the heavens?
Oh yea. I built a battleship completely armed with particle cannons. Its main guns are two turrets each with 14 scatter lenses each set to piercing. Then i have two 5 scatter lensed secondary guns also set to piercing. Secondary guns with 2 lenses set to explosive. And 4 single lensed set to impact.
Not sure if many people have mentioned it, so I'll leave it here just in case; the elevation turret freely clipping through the bottom of the turret has been in the game for ages. Any subobject on another subobject has no collision, even with the main hull, presumably since that would be horribly difficult to program.
8:50 No! over 1km it looses only 46,14%. Let's assume we have 100Damage. After 100m we only have 94Damage left as 100 * ((100 - 6) / 100) = 94 If we want to multiply by ((100 - 6) / 100), which is 0.94, ten times in a row we can also multiply by 0.94^10 utilizing exponentiation. 0.94^10 = 0.5386 therefore we calculate 100Damage * 0.54 = 53.86Damage. To calculate the loss 100Damage - 53.86Damage = 46.14Damage, which is obviously 46.14% of the initial 100Damage we assumed at the start lost over 100m * 10 = 1km.

18:01 Nice Red Dwarf reference :)
With all these faces in his builds, it looks like Lathrix is turning all his ships into Gunmen. Are we going to see the drill that will pierce the heavens?

nice video Lath keep it up love your content
Turrets on turrets have been passing though each other since they were implemented

OH THE 2 meter high particle one looks wiiiicked
Not sure if many people have mentioned it, so I'll leave it here just in case; the elevation turret freely clipping through the bottom of the turret has been in the game for ages. Any subobject on another subobject has no collision, even with the main hull, presumably since that would be horribly difficult to program.
One huge omega cannon. On a satellite. Behold, the hammer of dawn
8:50 No! over 1km it looses only 46,14%.
Let's assume we have 100Damage.
After 100m we only have 94Damage left as 100 * ((100 - 6) / 100) = 94
If we want to multiply by ((100 - 6) / 100), which is 0.94, ten times in a row we can also multiply by 0.94^10 utilizing exponentiation.
0.94^10 = 0.5386
therefore we calculate
100Damage * 0.54 = 53.86Damage.
To calculate the loss
100Damage - 53.86Damage = 46.14Damage,
which is obviously 46.14% of the initial 100Damage we assumed at the start lost over 100m * 10 = 1km.
Regarding the turret clipping: subobjects don't collide with other subobjects, not even the ones they are placed on. I think.
Lathrix says "Sir and Sirettes" meaning that he only expects one guy to watch, but an indefinite amount of ladies
How do you know he's not correct?
This carrier is ganna go from carrying aircraft to carrying a planet destroying particle cannon
